I'm listening to the live feed from the ISS right now.
www.nasa.gov...

There seems to be a piece of space junk which may be on a collision course with the ISS. As a precaution, the astronauts are going to relocate into the Soyuz. I don't think this is a drill.

I caught the last part of the conversation about the object. They are closing hatches right now.

I missed the timing.

Don't expect to hear anything more until the transfer is completed. I don't know if we'll still be able to listen once they're in the Soyuz.

OK, 20 minutes until they move into Soyuz.

No mention of this on the 24hr news channels! Is this just everyday precautionary protocol or is this an out of the ordinary event?

I'm pretty sure this is real. I wish I had heard more about the object. I don't know the threat level. But they wouldn't be moving into their "lifeboat" unless there's a good reason.

I wonder if the debris could be from that satellite collision that happened a while back? Maybe that's what their worried about.

Spaceweather.com has an article on tracking the satellite debris.

I heard earlier that they have cancelled several planned activities for today. That indicates this is not a routine exercise.

Just heard that they will be leaving in Soyuz and NASA wishing them luck. Man, this isn't sounding good at all.
