I didn't say chasing because the object was not directly in front of the jets. The object was a little higher and further in the distance. However, the proximity and the circumstances surrounding the event lead me to believe in the greater significance of the situation.

Fighter jet flew over Grant Park Atlanta, Georgia on June 21, 2008.
I didn't see the jet but it was very loud and very low. I think it came from the south flying north but not sure. Seems to me it would be very dangerous to fly so low and fast in a highly populated area.

Only if Lockheed has developed a way to make the bottom of a craft appear invisible, then it was possible it tilted enough so we caught a glint of reflection from the top. However, we stared at the sky and could see nothing. The shine was in an orb/oval/ellipse shape. I hope that helps describe it a little better.

The military has been researching techniques to do exactly that---make the bottom of a craft appear invisible.

Why do high altitude planes have grey-blue paint jobs?

Now, add active generation of light of arbitrary colors and modern sensors and you can easily get something which is difficult for humans to see when far away. There is lots of research on abilities of the human visual system to calibrate this.

The aircraft bottom can be adjusted to have the similar color and luminosity as a background, and so be very difficult to see in most cases. Every once in a while the angle and light might not work so you could see "something" but it would be hard to track and most people wouldn't sense it twice.

I have no specific knowledge of this, but I do know this idea (optical stealth) was started to be looked at even before WW2.

www.secretprojects.co.uk...

There is nothing extraordinary or impossible about the technology and the advantages for doing so seem quite strong, so I feel that it is reasonable to assume that some has been deployed already.

If you have a strong radar signature, then perhaps it was not considered worth the effort, but now that radar signatures can be suppressed (not eliminated!!) it becomes worthwhile to attempt to suppress optical signatures to approximately the same level.

For example, an unmanned recon drone would have quite an advantage with such technology.

For obvious reasons, this technology would be highly classified and not usually turned on for air traffic safety reasons.

That last reason could explain the fighter escort in front as well---the unstealthified fighters would be quite visible to other aircraft and no doubt commercial and general aviation always tries to stay away from high performance military planes.

F16s from the air national guard break the sound barrier alot here and its pretty low altitude they do it.They sometimes fly weird formations also like they are ridding atop each other.I wonder why they do that?

Probably just because they're freaking awesome.

I know that's why I'd do it.

I mean, if I flew jets.

Which I don't.

Which kinda sucks.

Just to let you know...

I'm keeping a tally of which othe ATS posters are actually in ATL. Pretty amazing too that there are so many of us. The funny thing is, most everyone attempts to hide their location in the avatar message, but yet we are loose lipped when someone mentions atlanta.

On second thought, I think thats the best way to figure out how many people are where.. say you saw a UFO in City XYZ, and then see how many people come out to say they did or didnt see it as well...

I live a few miles south of Dobbins AFB in Smyrna. I see F-22's & F-15 chase planes a lot & definitely a lot of C-130's. ATL!!@# Add me to your tally. I'll keep watching the sky in this area. I just hate the city lights...

I love going home to mid-GA, kinda near Warner Robins AFB, where there are no city lights. You can see sats & the ISS there.

Not to mention another strange display I was fortunate to be witness too. The sky is so vivid there at night, & you can see so much better.

My dad is a HAM Radio Operator & I remember him making contact to a HAM Op. on the ISS early on. That was so cool.

I'm rambling,

I thought that there was some ordinance against breaking the sound barrier over a city. I was under the impression that there would be fines if this happened?

Sure doesn't seem this way, as it happens a lot here.

Footage of? I'm just saying I've privy to a lot of flyovers here & I watch the skies, unlike a lot.

The event I witnessed w/ my dad was in like 1980-something. Sorry, no footage.

Old thread, but I saw something today that made me look for "UFOs and Atlanta." Imagine my surprise when this thread popped up and also said fighter jets. Here's what I saw...

Okay, this is crazy, but this afternoon at about 4 p.m. I was heading south on Dallas Highway and saw a fighter jet chasing a roundish, bright turquoise-blue and not exactly plane-like looking object with three large lights on it that appeared to face backward from the direction it was flying and that looked about twice the size of the fighter. They were both going verrrry fast in a northeasterly direction, and the fighter looked like it was swooping in on the blue object fast and was zig-zagging around it. By the time I could pull off and grab my camera (maybe 30 seconds?), they were long gone.

Could be a test out of Lockheed or Dobbins, of course, but it didn't look like the typical jet tailing the test plane to me, and we've all seen plenty of those around here. Just wow. I waited around for about 15 minutes to see if they might come back by returning to the base, but no luck. I've never seen a plane this color before or this kind of activity in the sky. Wish I was better identifying fighter jets.

Anyone else in the area see anything?

P.S. I think I lost them when they veered more north, and it was more an electric blue than a turquoise really. The sky was very blue with medium contrail coverage...they were below that ceiling.

Hell...chase plane was what I was trying to say up there...didn't look like a typical one.

It appeared to me more like the jet was trying to get a closer look? But being tentative about it after rushing it? Sort of like that, as near as I can describe it.
