Sobering interviews with returning soldiers

This is only an excerpt. CFTM is the interviewer. MIA is a serviceman back from Iraq. I'll let his words speak for himself.

MIA -- "Man I should kick your f..king hippie, terrorist loving ass! You don�t support us at all! If you supported us you would want us to kill every last one of them terrorist camel f..kers. Tell me why I shouldn�t kick your ass right now! Give me a good reason why I don�t just # you up and walk away!"

CFTM -- "I don�t need this kind of crap just to get and interview. You can try to kick my ass, but I think I�m going to walk away from you. This isn�t worth it. I can talk to someone else who will give me honest answers without threatening me or trying to beat me up. I hope you stay safe, but damn man you make it hard for me to wish you luck."

MIA -- "Hold up man, you�re gonna walk away from me? How the f..k? Come here man, I want to make sure you don�t rat me out. I�m just pissed off about all this sh.t that is going on. I swear I won�t kick your ass or anything."

CFTM -- "Look as far as I�m concerned this is over with. I made a mistake when I asked your wife if you would do this. I knew how you felt about protesters, but it didn�t really seem dangerous to talk to you. I offered to forget about it earlier and you were the one who wanted to talk. I asked you twice before and you backed out, you could have said no."

MIA -- "Let�s get this over with and I want to go home. I won�t hurt you, I�m just upset. You guys think it is all so easy. You carry a sign and try to stop the war, I carry a gun and try not to get shot or blown the f..k up. I�ll talk some more if you want to hear it. I won�t beg you, if you want to go, get the f..k out of here."

CFTM -- "One more threat and I walk! I mean it! I am only trying to help you. I don�t want you guys to die, but I don�t want any innocent Iraqis to die either. I have a right as an American to believe in that. I think you guys are dying for nothing that is worth your lives. I am going to preach now, and if you don�t like it you can go and get #ed. I was trying to be professional and have respect for you, but you aren�t even respecting my views or opinions. You keep threatening me and getting crazy, but I�m not doing anything to piss you off."...

MIA -- "Alright I get the point, enough preaching. It won�t change my mind because I know I�m doing the right thing. My country needs me and they will figure out that some sh.t got a little off track with this damn war. I keep hearing my captain saying that hey will fix the mistakes and it is important that we fight the war on terror. We kicked Saddam�s ass and we took that whole country over. Prove to me we didn�t win and I�ll kiss your ass right now.

"I am just sick of all the heat and sand and bullsh.t. I miss my wife and this was the first time I had ever seen my daughter. She was born while I was over there. I didn�t know if I would make it back to see her. That was all I was thinking about when I got the first picture. Was I going to ever be able to make it back home? I didn�t really know and it sucked a big dick."

"One of my friends had a kid while he was over there and he got killed a week later. How f..king stupid, what a f..king waste. He could have at least got the chance to go home and see his son. That�s all he wanted that whole week and he knew he couldn�t go home. Then we got in as firefight with some #ing rag heads we never even saw. They hit us from a rooftop ambush and got him right in the neck. He handed me a letter for his daughter and one for his wife. They had blood all over them, but I had to send them off that way. Wow, can you imagine having a last letter from your dad with his blood on it?"

In the early days people who returned from War were heroes,now they are "Murderers" and similar crap.

The Vietnam war was the start of this "Peace dude!" lets make love not War well thats sweet with me but with screaming idiots like the NKs threatening to use Nukes and sending missiles towards and over Japan.
You cant just sit ther and say "Hey dude were all friends dont do that" it just doesnt work.
You are not dealing with a rational person as with Saddam and similar meat heads.

I think a heap of people on here need to think what would happen if you were there in Iraq or in Afghanistan "You say peace dude" over there and you will have invasive crainial surgery from a AKM round.

They dont care,you read what that guy is saying ALL OF IT he has been through hell and back as soldiers do in War.You try to free a people from a mad tyrant and then his people shoot you in the back in the street,and the US troops etc can only fire when fired upon.(which is generally too late for somebody).

I really think alot of people just dont have enough understanding about War and pitting another human against another.
And I guess without seeing it and experiencing it first time you will never know.

On the battlefeild its "them vs us" and when you are looking down the iron sights at a guy who is trying to kill you or your family/friends/comrades there is no second thought its just pulling the 2 stage trigger back to 3 and survive for a little longer.

I have lost family and friends to War and terrorism and know where the guy is coming from.
One of my relatives was gunned down in cold blood on the banks of a lake by the IRA in front of his son who grew up to later join the ranks of the British Army and served his time well....proudly..

Scoop are doing a very good job living up to their name and getting things covered that ought to be covered. They broke the news about corruption in the Diebold voting machine software months before anyone in the US would touch it.

These guys have had their lives screwed by the Bush administration. And now you can read about them getting killed at home, especially the nearer they have been to "heroine" and poster child Jessica Lynch.

I'm interested in whether they think their attitude would be these guys should be courtmartialled for the way they have spoken out.

Or whether they rationalise like too many do, "that's the reality of war".

Yep, 5 soldiers dead per day as quoted in Part 1, and a number of opportunity attacks massively over what get covered by the press, and no-one that wants to be there, at all.

Agreed. It was unnecesarry. apologies. Probably in some sort of wretched and loathing mood at the time.

This is the kind of # I was worried about! A repeat of Nam. The soldiers coming home and people treating them like # and harrassing them, calling em baby killers and # like that. Preaching to them, instead of leaving them alone. Blaming THEM.

But, as you can see, our troops minds are getting #ed with over there. They are seeing friends get killed. They are being told that they have won the war, Saddam is gone, and everyone is happy. Yet they are being attacked and sniped at. Thier conditions over there are unpleasant, as are most wars. bUT thier morale is even lower, because the reasons they were sent, and thier faith in the systemn, is being eroded.

Its tragic. They shouldnt be blamed, they shouldnt be harrassed. They shouldnt be tormented. Its not thier fault they were lied too, their heads messed with. This war is not thier fault, nor the killing of Iraqis thier fault. They did what they had to do to survive and do thier job. The blame lies in those above them who sent them to this chunk of hell in the first place. Yet Bush will never get his face spit in, Bush will never be attacked, belittled, harrassed, ect, no, he has his legions of fall guys who will get blamed.

I cannot really condemn some of the insanity of the US troops over in Iraq, and the # that happens, from firing into crowds to the other things they get screamed at about. They are doign what they need to do: surviving, attempting to do thier job as they have been trained. If thier leaders hadnt sent them to that miserable mess, it wouldnt be happening. They could be back here at home right now, doign what they signed on to do: defend America. They could be getting off field exercise, and having a barracks party complete with keg of beer. But no...some miserable third world mid east #hole has instead swallowed them.thanks Bush, youre a #ing #.

When they come home, i swear, if I see any of these hippies do anything untorward to them, I shall make compost out of said hippies. My mother told me of what was done to nam troops returning home, I would have went postal.

Very compelling interviews there. Refreshing to read something that seems unedited as well.
I will say that I feel bad for these guys. They were indeed lied to about the reasons for this war and something like that should NEVER happen. If you are going to send people to die you could at least be honest about the reasons.
One really has to wonder how high the desertion rates would have been if the administration had stated the true reasons for the invasion.
We need a "friendly" country in the mid-east with a lot of pull in OPEC. Oh yeah, Saddam is an asshole that needs to go away as well.
Makes sense sitting behind a desk but not if you have to lug the M-16 into the desert.

My buddy lives in Astoria. I know how it works there, thats why we get alot of unemployed people from oregon moving up to Washington. I have known so many people from oregon come here.

I engaged in a small Iraq protest with a few rednecks from POyallup and Aubrun at the Tacoma mall before the war started. We got chased out, kicked out, by mall security, who told us we were being disruptive, when we were simply standing, in a wide public area, holding up signs, and trying to talk to people. My buddy Noel, who got tired of it when they finally kicked us out, mooned them, and the mall got to see his hairy, freckled, bepimpled ass as we left. There were children in the crowd. They will grow up emotionally scared after seeing that ass. They will for now on associate the Iraq war and blood for oil with that hideous ass. Hopefully they will rgow up carrying that visual, and become rabidly against any more future excursions into bull# unnecessary wars!
