He's down. The nose gear is destroyed. No wheels at all, they burned right off and snapped as he went down the runway.

That pilot made an excellent landing AND it's been said he kept everyone onboard very calm and he himself was completely relaxed and calm.

He is a hero, no doubt.

There was a lot of luck, but that was a GOOD pilot. That was an absolutely perfect landing. Great job to the entire flight crew, and the fire department at LAX.

I'm sure that the entire crew deserves praise in this situation. The passengers had to wait this thing out for nearly three hours. I'm sure there were some nervous folks aboard, so everyone from the pilots to the attendants had to demonstrate a calm resolve to reassure everyone that they had a good chance of coming through well.

I think even the Airbus engineers are deserving of some praise, as well.

Jet Blue has their CEO fly as a flight attendant about once or twice a month. He does anything they tell him to do, walks around the plane talking to passengers, and spends the entire flight serving drinks, snacks, whatever. I wanted to fly them after seeing that, but after watching this, it just reinforces that feeling. That was a very professional flight crew, and made a perfect landing.

It looks like the wheels remained actually....They're now lying parallel to the runway and very very flat

Great landing!

Those sparks and flames had me worried there for a bit, but clearly these pilots were well prepared for what actions to take during their fuel-burning phase...

It looks like what was the right side tire remained, but you could see the left side tired bend backwards about 45 degrees as they went down the runway, and then dissapear. I'm surprised that either of them remained. There was about the top third of wheel hub left on the front part.

Passenger confirms that they were able to see the coverage while on the plane
the tv's weren't off till they almost landed.

but it seems the pilot kept them well informed.

Anyone got a video?

this has hardly been mentioned (if at all) on any news outlet here in the UK. Got BBC News 24 on here at work and even when they went live to ABC news for thier Yankee view on things at 0200 there was nothing.

Ahhhh........

Looked quite cool. Nice to see the Airbus hold up to that..

Shame it broke in the first place, but at least it came down in (more or less) one piece.
