Battle of Bakhmut has concluded, in one of the greatest battles in modern history on May 20, 2023.

Medvedev responds to Elon Musk

The day also marks when Mariupol fell last year, on May 20, 2022.

As well as when Zelensky was sworn in as President, on May 20, 2019.

Don't worry, there's a few billion more going over there to be wasted in less than a month.

Those 'golden parachutes' for the neocons is working out splendidly!

Ukraine is just a laundry mat for one of the largest wealth transfers (HEIST) in history. This whole circus is about to nosedive and these 'elites' are taking care of their legacies and families into perpetuity before it all goes pear shaped.

Look at the whole picture. Everyone wins except the American people and the country. The MIC wins, Ukraine wins, the pharmaceutical companies win, the politicians that approve and provide the funding win, the insider traders win, etc. etc.

The rest of us can eat boot stew.

Would you want an armed populace if you were doing this?

Probably not.

You could literally send them all the weapons in the world...but if there isn't anyone left to operate them what good does it do? Just in numbers alone Ukraine doesn't have the manpower to hold out. Even if they somehow averaged a 2 or 3 to 1 kill rate they can't win...they are not averaging like that though. All this is...is the west trying to weaken Russia at the expense of Ukraine...which is par for the course for US lead western strategy. They spend your taxes and Ukrainian lives for a goal most of us couldn't care less about.

How will this "greatest battle in modern history" be portrayed on the History Channel? I hope there is lots of footage, so we don't have to watch computer animations of the battle. And a good explanation of WHY it was such an important battle.

Makes you wonder if we "start a war" every so many years just to hide all evidence of the money spent in between. That would be one hell of a wag the dog!

Until there's a FULL accounting** for all our children's futures we sacrificed to "weaken Russia", the whole operation REEKS to high heaven.

Who knows where that money is going and being funneled into. We've already seen evidence of them flaunting the money.

At the very least to keep the economy afloat I'd imagine.

But...but...

"SPRING OFFENSIVE"

Ended before it started and this was clear like spring water, no soldiers and no weapons except the old trash the "Ukraine supporters" gifted to the Ukraine, paid by tax payers money. Those military "experts", their faces were funny when you asked them about satellite recon of the gathering of troops and weapons for that "enormous spring offensive".

It is what it is, a wag the dog war scenario, artificially drawn out in length to use that show as excuse for what is really going on not only behind the curtain anymore, as excuse for the negative effects (for the average people) of Great Reset/Green New Deal. Hence why there are WEF agents acting on all sides.

The American people do win, sending obscene amounts of money to a war zone alleviates inflationary debt off the American peoples backs. That's one of the functions of empires and war.

Explain the mechanics behind that...I don't see how that would reduce inflation in the slightest.

You're taking debt printed by the domestic central bank then putting in thr hands of a foreign entity, instead of injecting money into your population, and letting them deal with the flow of increased money - which just causes more inflation - you make it someone else's problem. Ukraine has accepted a lot of debt from the US they were essentially colonized by the way if debt that needs to be paid back one day.

Since the USD is the global reserve currency the US Cando this with any nation they want, China is doing this too and currently are calling in their loans (that's another story tho).

End of the day, that's how empires work. They are basically giant overly complicated mafiss.

To celebrate the fall of Bakmhut as a great Russian victory is definitely a very Russian thing to do. Who knows perhaps the commie bastards needed the symbolic victory in the still tactically insignificant little patch of earth along 1000km plus front.

I'd reserve victory status to those who lost fewer troops and burnt through less dwindling ammunition. By all accounts, Wagner shelled the small town of 80,000 into the mud.

FWIW those non-Russians and especially Americans and Europeans lauding this as some great Russian military victory will probably be haunted eternally by General George Patton's spirit. For a better perspective perhaps one should think of a town nearby that has a population of around 80,000 near them like Asheville NC, Fayetteville AR, Medford OR, Sioux City Iowa, or Temple TX, and ask yourself would you fight to the death against an overwhelming relentless force, for that one tiny burg?

Bakmhut was just where those Ukrainians that had fought and retook Bakhmut previously decided this defense would be their Alamo. No more no less, it was a valiant and heroic defense as the past few weeks they were shelled with no mercy, ironically not by the Russian regular army, but by essentially paid mercenaries. Wagner mercenaries who were barely supplied by Putin in the end because he was incensed they had already burnt through so many shells, and still Bakmhut held. Till today, now Putin's comrades and sympathizers can call it the shelled-out and destroyed mud pit by its Russian name Artyomovsk.

Even though Im against America's expenditure and the other issues with this war, one can still9 reduce it to the lowest common denominator and salute those whose will and determination led them to die for that patch of land. No telling how many dumb Russian sons of bitches died trying to capture it.

Most numbers show Russia is burning through troops at a 5-1 ratio in Ukraine most estimates it is significantly more in Bakmhut, especially if you include all of its battles over the years. If it is close to 7-1 think of how degraded that is to the Russian forces overall

Analysts said that a Russian victory in Bakhmut was unlikely to turn the tide in the war.

The Russian capture of the last remaining ground in Bakhmut is “not tactically or operationally significant,” a Washington-based think tank said late Saturday. The Institute for the Study of War said that taking control of these areas “does not grant Russian forces operationally significant terrain to continue conducting offensive operations,” nor to “to defend against possible Ukrainian counterattacks.”

Using the city’s Soviet-era name, the Russian ministry said, “In the Artyomovsk tactical direction, the assault teams of the Wagner private military company with the support of artillery and aviation of the southern battlegroup has completed the liberation of the city of Artyomovsk.”

Russian state news agencies cited the Kremlin’s press service as saying President Vladimir Putin “congratulates the Wagner assault detachments, as well as all servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces units, who provided them with the necessary support and flank protection, on the completion of the operation to liberate Artyomovsk.”

In a video posted earlier on Telegram, Wagner head Yevgeny Prigozhin said the city came under complete Russian control at about midday Saturday. He spoke flanked by about a half dozen fighters, with ruined buildings in the background and explosions heard in the distance.

Fighting has raged in and around Bakhmut for more than eight months.

Russian forces will still face the massive task of seizing the remaining part of the Donetsk region still under Ukrainian control, including several heavily fortified areas.

It isn’t clear which side has paid a higher price in the battle for Bakhmut. Both Russia and Ukraine have endured losses believed to be in the thousands, though neither has disclosed casualty numbers.

Zelenskyy underlined the importance of defending Bakhmut in an interview with The Associated Press in March, saying its fall could allow Russia to rally international support for a deal that might require Kyiv to make unacceptable compromises.

Analysts have said Bakhmut’s fall would be a blow to Ukraine and give some tactical advantages to Russia but wouldn’t prove decisive to the outcome of the war.

Russian forces still face the enormous task of seizing the rest of the Donetsk region under Ukrainian control, including several heavily fortified areas. The provinces of Donetsk and neighboring Luhansk make up the Donbas, Ukraine’s industrial heartland where a separatist uprising began in 2014 and which Moscow illegally annexed in September.

Bakhmut, located about 55 kilometers (34 miles) north of the Russian-held regional capital of Donetsk, had a prewar population of 80,000 and was an important industrial center, surrounded by salt and gypsum mines.

The city, which was named Artyomovsk after a Bolshevik revolutionary when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union, also was known for its sparkling wine production in underground caves. Its broad tree-lined avenues, lush parks and stately downtown with imposing late 19th-century mansions — all now reduced to a smoldering wasteland — made it a popular tourist destination.

When a separatist rebellion engulfed eastern Ukraine in 2014 weeks after Moscow’s illegal annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula, the rebels quickly won control of the city, only to lose it a few months later.

After Russia switched its focus to the Donbas following a botched attempt to seize Kyiv early in the February 2022 invasion, Moscow’s troops tried to take Bakhmut in August but were pushed back.

The fighting there abated in autumn as Russia was confronted with Ukrainian counteroffensives in the east and the south, but it resumed at full pace late last year. In January, Russia captured the salt-mining town of Soledar, just north of Bakhmut, and closed in on the city’s suburbs.

Intense Russian shelling targeted the city and nearby villages as Moscow waged a three-sided assault to try to finish off the resistance in what Ukrainians called “fortress Bakhmut.”

Mercenaries from Wagner spearheaded the Russian offensive. Prigozhin tried to use the battle for the city to expand his clout amid the tensions with the top Russian military leaders whom he harshly criticized.

“We fought not only with the Ukrainian armed forces in Bakhmut. We fought the Russian bureaucracy, which threw sand in the wheels,” Prigozhin said in the video on Saturday.

The relentless Russian artillery bombardment left few buildings intact amid ferocious house-to-house battles. Wagner fighters “marched on the bodies of their own soldiers” according to Ukrainian officials. Both sides have spent ammunition at a rate unseen in any armed conflict for decades, firing thousands of rounds a day.

If only more people who couldn’t identify Ukraine on a map would have used a translucent Ukrainian flag over their bubblegum social media profile pic, Russia would have just given up already

Welp, guess all the US can do now is send the trillions more to get blown up in a second
