In August, New York said drivers could face a traffic congestion charge of up to $23 a day by mid-2024, while the cost of a round trip by car from areas like Princeton, New Jersey, could be as much as $120.

The toll would be applied on top of existing bridge and tunnel tolls to congestion charges.

The toll would generate $1-$1.5 billion a year for MTA, which runs the city's public transit system and faces a financial crisis as ridership continues to lag behind pre-pandemic levels.

The money would also support $15 billion in debt financing for mass transit improvement.

If it keeps the likes of you out of NYC it's awesome.

Aww bless, you think your American grid planning isn't good enough?
We had congestion charges in London for a while but that isn't good enough, because now they want to expand it to a wider area.
My elderly Mother in law lives there and now on top of the petrol and the bridge toll, we would have to also pay £12.50 to visit.
She doesn't live in London and half a mile out, it would be free to visit her.
They call it the ULEZ ultra low emission zone.

First it was (apparently) to fight congestion, now it's emission.

The reason they change their goalposts is because they lie.
It was never about congestion, it's for poor people to give up their cars and to usher in the 14min cities.

Kathy Hochul is a joke, clearly panic-stricken at the millions who will be running to NY next week when the borders are left wide open by her own party.
Someone has to support the masses, so why not the poor schlubs who work in or want to visit NY, Hochul can't possibly hike taxes in NY again, so that's her solution.

I last visited NYC in 2001 with my MBA Graduate School in June and was at the World Trade Center. We also were on the floor of the NYSE and ate at a Harley Davidson. I do remeber the stench of barf rising from the sewer grates while walking the streets at night

What is the mechanism that allows a US President to levy NY taxes on NY citizens ?
I’m sure Hochul will be thrilled to let Biden do whatever he wants, but constitutionally….. legally ?
