How many of you live in Florida and actually know what is going on? I would bet none of those who are attacking DeSantis? The Rat as we call it, not the mouse, has been a burden and not carrying or paying it's fair sure for decades. They pay off politicians, land devs and anyone else to keep their control to not pay taxes and use as many exemptions as possible including controlling the district as a separate entity. With the traffic and pollution they cause they should be paying Orange County and the State a LOT more. It has nothing to do with a political attack to be honest.

The ONLY thing that happened is a new board was installed. There are 100's of special districts but we only hear about this one because it will fit a media narrative and make it all about hating gay people and burning books. Garbage.

Besides, did you know Disney actually gave money to DeSantis. So you see, it is a big game folks.

Doesn't look like the LGB are boycotting Pensacola Beach Pride 2023 next month.

that's funny logic in America, where bribery is legal and corporations dominate politics with no real way to stop them, disney and other companies only set up these kinds of districts for control not profits, and states only go along with it to save money, so desantis and company doing this is only going to hurt their future political ambitions and the Republicans will be brought back in line or lose florida to Democrats. this political brinksmanship of the Republicans since obama got elected has gotten out of hand, the whole original point of the culture war against liberals was to win votes with some words and token legislation, not to challenge the corporate hegemony that dictates the direction of American politics, without corporate support and money you dont win elections unless you got lucky.

if this keeps up America will get its credit downgraded again, the culture war being pushed by both extremes, liberals and right wing trumpers, is only hurting America and is going to go how corporations want it or the government will default, so expect extreme liberals and right wingers to start being fired, impeached, face legal troubles and lose elections, its gone too far to allow it anymore. we might even see the revival of media bias laws that force all news organizations to be more fair and balanced by showing both sides, or news media will do it voluntarily. either way, politicians that take the culture war literally like desantis are gonna start suffering for it.

Nope. They will still be Fantasy Fest. St Pete will still be the Florida Capital of LGBTR2D2. Hamburger Marys is going nowhere. No one is taking down the Pulse memorial.

However, if you live in Florida, most of us, hate Disney. With a passion. It is not a Red or Blue Issue. They get away with doing whatever they want.

Plus, the copyright on Mickey goes away next year....THAT will be fantastic.

Florida is not going to be lost to Democrats. Florida now has about 500k more GOP than DNC. The issue is the Independent in Florida which almost matches GOP and DNC numbers.

Since 2020 Florida has lost 500k Democratic voters....buh bye.

It's now called The "free" State of Desantistan.

a reply to: angelchemuel

Yeah, we tried that in 1861. Didn't go down very well, from what I remember.

Disney has basically been able to write the copyright laws for years, and they've kept extending the copyright period specifically to protect the early Mickey Mouse cartoons. But in the current political climate, there's no way they'll be able to get another extension thru Congress.

No I boycott everything connected to Disney financially today. I don't even watch the marvel universe stuff in theaters anymore. No star wars. Dreamworks stuff is ok since it's Viacom. If I would have known there was a gay coming out scene in the Shazaam sequel I would not have dropped money and would have skipped that as well.

Now warner brothers is on my #list for a year. Not one dime. It's amazing how enjoyable life is with the saved money from all these big companies I boycott. I even stopped buying chips out of the absurdity of the prices. I just been able to redirect to fun experiences with the family.

As a parent I am very proud of our governor and his efforts to keep homosexual print pornography directed at minors and pedo groomers out of our schools.
Disney may own land, but they do not get to create their own laws or run their own government. Shouldn't they be in Atlanta or Texas by now lol!?!?

Disney has announced they will not be moving forward with a project that would've injected $1 billion into Florida's economy and created 2000+ jobs.

Way to go DeSantis!

Yep. Disney, they're in it for the long haul. They need to relocate to someplace that isn't going to be underwater within the next 10-30 years.

Yea iirc I was supposed to be underwater by now according to some of my reading material back in middle school in 1999.
I've seen islands formed, disappear and reformed in the last twenty years thanks to hurricanes. One of our islands that was formed after a hurricane in the early 1900's was reconnected to the mainland after a hurricane in 2004, or maybe a later one. Now you can walk there from Clearwater beach in addition to the boat that launches every half hour from honeymoon island.

Another barrier island recently had a pass reopened which helped to bring back water flow and improve the water quality , again thanks to storms.

The Florida coastal landscape shifts with every storm, one of the very fun and interesting things about Florida. Yet, we aren't underwater yet. Hopefully Disney's finances soon will be though.
