Wrong. The first words were "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." That word "a" is crucial. Otherwise it makes no sense at all. It's like saying, "That's one small step for mankind, one giant leap for mankind." Armstrong himself said he said "a man." That alone should end the issue, but the false quote is perpetuated by people not paying attention.
