Plausible deniability.

That way when they use chemical weapons Russia can claim is what not them.

Infowars?

I'd say Putin is the last of the destructive Draconian Warlords -- that the world no longer needs or wants.

Commerce and Technology is the modern equivalent of "taking ground".

Except for civil skirmishes -- I expect modern warfare to be through intellectual and power negotiations.

During WWII Gliders like the WACO and HORSA were made of plywood and canvas

Many were built by piano and *Cough* coffin makers ...........

Some spec ops equipment was long made of plywood (it isn't the low tech junk you find at home depot though) until modern composites were available.

Because it's strong, light, and nearly invisible to radar that isn't looking for something with an RCS that small and slow.

Perhaps because his country is being destroyed by a neighboring bully trying to steal it's land and resources?

I don't see the humor.

New Zealand was asked to help train the Ukrainian forces in using L119, 105mm Light Guns.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said more than 230 Ukrainian forces would be trained by the NZDF. It will take at least a week for a gun crew to be trained.

short article

In light of the New Zealand Defence Force's personnel shortage, deploying a larger contingent to the training mission probably wasn't an option. Also, the deployment likely ensures New Zealand's support for Ukraine is ongoing after returning an RNZAF C-130 from UK/Poland.

I can't think of another country on the planet that has stepped up to the plate in such an outsized way as New Zealand, Though Australia and Poland sure seem to be trying to keep up.

Setting an excellent example for others to follow.

Plywood was used to save aluminum and steel

Gliders were a single use item - one mission was all they were designed for

The gliders were only fly to the target and land or more correctly crash on their targets

They were to transport vehicles like jeeps with antitank guns and 75 mm pack howitzers

22 May update

Key Takeaways

* Russian forces made only minimal gains in eastern Ukraine on May 22. New reporting confirmed that Russian troops previously recaptured Rubizhne in northern Kharkiv Oblast, on May 19.

* Ukrainian sources confirmed that Russian forces have secured local advances to the north and west of Popasna since at least May 20. Russian forces likely seek to push further west toward Bakhmut and north to support the encirclement of Severodonetsk but remain unlikely to achieve rapid advances.

* Russian forces will likely attempt to hold positions west of the Siverskyi Donets River against Ukrainian attacks (rather than retreating across the river) to prevent further Ukrainian advances from threatening Russian lines of communication to Izyum.

* Russian occupying forces continued filtration and deportation procedures in and around Mariupol.

* Russian forces are likely preparing to resume offensives on the southern axis.

At first, yes. It also helped that Britain had more highly skilled woodworkers than the rest of the world combined at the time.

And with the gliders, that disposable nature was obviously pretty important at the time.

But something unexpected was quickly learned about the RCS of the Mosquito and Spitfire that the west rarely discussed for 50+ years while we quietly built a lot of 'plywood' stuff, and we had more aluminum and steel than we knew what to do with at the time.

There is a direct path from those two British planes and 3 British teenagers to the most advanced American aircraft, including the ones under development right now, and it all started with a few British teenagers noticing something odd about those British planes on their radar.

As a reminder

Just so people know and understand. Information from war zones can become confusing as there will no doubt be info released from the players (on both sides) involved that might not necessarily be true.

As such take everything as a possibility and NOT as absolute truth.

The very first casualty in a war is the truth and all warfare is based on deception

Any information that shows the Russian lies is automatically labeled as disinfo from the usual suspects. It is up there with them trying to preach how wrong Ukraine is for refusing to recognize insurrectionists and fighting to retain Ukrainian sovereign territory while at the same time they try to desperately give Russia a pass on the Chechen war. If they acknowledge what Russia did in Chechnya as ok (which they do) then they have a problem trying to claim what Ukraine is doing is wrong.

They even try to justify Russian actions by arguing the DRP/LPR are sovereign nations and then loose their sh*t when its pointed out Chechnya used the exact same method (declared independence).

That seems to be their weakness. They try going after Ukraine and then become unhinged when you draw the parallels to what Russia did in Chechnya. It is funny, and yet sad all at the same time, watching them trying to claim somehow its different.

I did that parallel with Chechnia some weeks/months ago to a Russian friend. I asked if the Islamic countries should have started bombarding cities across Russia to protect the Chechen Muslims. She answered yes after some time thinking I guess.
