This run-off, write-off contest is to determine who will pick the next topic.
This contest is between pthena and Vroomfondel.
They tied for fist place here:
SHORT STORY WRITERS CONTEST for August 2020 - CAMPFIRE TALES -- CT2020

RULEZ!!!!!

1. Short and sweet.

2. pthena and Vroomfondel can choose any topic they like, as long as it is T&C compliant. The stories can be any format, and the word limit is 200 words.
PLEASE PUT "WRITE-OFF" in title.

3. The two stories must be posted no later than Friday, October 10, 2020. [Please read number 4 for updated info!!] Voting will be the same as for the contests.
Please END your submission with "THE END" so that everyone is clear that your entry is complete.

4. Since both entries are posted, voting will commence now and end Wednesday, October 14th. After Wednesday, the 14th both entries will be closed to further voting until stars and flags are counted.

I panicked. After writing this poem I read it.

Due to some sort of writer's block I couldn't think of anything else. I tried to soften it but couldn't even come up with softer rhymes.

Not an entry, just something I needed to get out of my system.

This reminds me of something I witnessed back in 1976.

The Physical Plant Dept. of the University was in the process of reinforcing the footing of the wall around the Olympic size pool. The University had already taken some students in who were refugees from what had once been South Vietnam. One of those, An Dung(Peaceful Hero), was on the digging crew.

And then there was Charlie. He outweighed An Dung by quite a bit. And besides that, he considered himself to be quite accomplished with wooden swords. So Charlie challenged An Dung to a shovel fight.

After the third time that An Dung held back from delivering what could have been a finishing blow Charlie conceded that An Dung was the better man.

But I'm not Charlie. I'm not giving up yet.
