It ALREADY exists and is being tolerated in Muslim-dominated areas. It just does not (yet) have legal force, although some are working on that. Your pious hope applies to the whole country and ignores the fact that sharira law lite is exercised daily in marital problems and civil matters amongst Moslems. This does not become an issue for the authorities until some Moslems start (as has happened) harrassing white girls because they think their skirts are too short or because tolerance of homosexuality is taught in schools with a mixture of Moslem and non-Moslem pupils, despite the fact that the Islamic religion forbids it. Such tensions make some Moslems radical, wanting legalised sharia law.
Sure, sharira law will not replace common law. But that's not the point. It's the tensions between the two that causes the problems.
