communist

fascist

nazi

racist

you really - REALLY need to start with those four

as in thread after thread - their miss-use goes beyond the pale

thanks in advance - the english speaking world

PS - the letter " U " needs to be used correctly too - and stop replacing " S" with " Z"

ETA - how the hell did i miss " racist " off my list - thanks " canerwarrior "

Would be great if spelling of those words was the only mistake.
90% of Americans on ATS are, mildly put, imbeciles when it comes to knowledge of any of those ideologies.

The literal meaning of Nazi is National Socialist. Communism is government controlling corporations. Fascism is hard to define. For instance, antifa is a fascist group. Basically, anyone trying to control others by brute physical force is fascist, whether its through socialism, communism or mercantilism. Racism is people thinking their race is superior to another race. Socialism/Communism/Racism are all bad and are all formed out of a primitive tribal regressive collectivist mindset. The USA is based on the idea of liberty, where we have limited government interference regarding privacy/property rights & natural individual rights, which government has no right to alter or take away. We have been under fascist mercantilism (corporations controlling government) in the USA since the founding of the Federal Reserve Bank in 1913. We need to return to liberty based government, we the people controlling government. This can be done by implementing term limits and by people not voting for career politicians. Political office is a service, not a career.

My peeve is then and than.
How to Use Than and Then (with Cheat Sheet) - wikiHow
Remember that then is a word that indicates time or sequence. In all of its uses, then is used when you want to talk about a point in time or sequence of events. If someone is asking when something happened, then is the appropriate word for your response.

Than - Wikipedia
Than is a grammatical particle analyzed as both a conjunction and a preposition in the English language. It introduces a comparison and is associated with comparatives and with words such as more, less, and fewer.

You could usefully shorten the title of this thread by taking out the last 8 words in it.

Pretty much.

It's used as a way to shut down the conversation. I think, if anyone can be bothered to look, I'm certainly not going to, that many, if not most, Americans don't use fascism, or nazi, in their day to day conversations. I certainly don't.

People here in America tend to create and redefine terms to bolster their opinions on a whim. It's definitely annoying.

Grammatically I cringe when people mix up "a" and "an", personally.

than/then is one of my pet peeves.

On Topic: It will get so that these words fascist, racist etc will become badges of pride. In 50 years The American Nazi Party will be the saviors of mankind, and local Racists Lodge will do charities and be beloved by the community, and the Fascist Church will be the worlds fastest growing religion.

Meh, enough.

Enough of those that are linked here as 'evidence' or 'proof'.

I believe that academic rigor is more important than the idiomatic differences between uk and us english.

However, feel free to disagree. I know you want to.

Do you mean off of my list Mr./Mrs. Perfect?

Well Americans will work on spelling while foreigners to America work on punctuation and capitalizing properly, how's that sound?

Maybe there's a couple of words that could be better suited to be practiced by one and all? Cognitive dissonance...

After all, words are mere opinion. I typically reserve 100% fact to relate to mathematics. There's no debating in any language that 1+2=3.

Water, food, and safety are needs. Someone wanting verbs and nouns structured in their particular order is far from being a need in life. If anything it is a play of ego, of which others very seldom find a desire to change for.

I will always spell 'organiZe' with a 'z' even though I am English.

It is the correct spelling which English writers have got wrong.

I agree on the meanings of words, they need to be clear, but as for grammar and spelling, I don't care really, so long as we can all understand the meaning of the sentence.

I agree, People seem to want to concentrate their attention on each word and spelling even though they clearly understood the whole.
When you stop worrying about those kinds of things and realize you can have a great conversation with People from around the world and of all ages, and education does not equal intelligence.
