DoD and Senate check the POTUS, flags returned to half mast

From WaPo: In a tweet Monday morning, Matt House, a spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), said that he and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had asked the Department of Defense to “provide necessary support so that U.S. flags on all government buildings remain at half mast through sunset on the day of Senator McCain’s interment.”

Looks like checks and balances are in full effect

The protocol for members of congress is that the flag remains half-staff on the day of death and the day after, which is what occurred. Checks and balances.

Really? Schumer and McConnell have nothing better to do? I wonder how many of those getting fussed to have the flag returned to half staff supported the NFL players who took knees at the flag's presentation?

The flag shall be flown at half-staff 30 days from the death of the President or a former President; 10 days from the day of death of the Vice President, the Chief Justice or a retired Chief Justice of the United States, or the Speaker of the House of Representatives; from the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a Secretary of an executive or military department, a former Vice President, or the Governor of a State, territory, or possession; and on the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress.

Per the standard code, the flag should be flying full staff today. McCain was only a member of Congress, nothing more.

War hero dies. Trump hates the troops. Trump performs extreme disrespect to troops and war heros. OK, par for the Trump golf course.

He is within his authority to do so, but under zero codified requirement for it to happen. I disagree with him here. The flag should be flying as normal today.

Captured or not, all our soldiers are heroes!

He called him a hero alongside everyone else who has served. "Donny" just didn't go through the disturbing "plant lips tightly to McCain cheeks" exercise some are oddly savoring the experience of today.
