The impressive thing here is the amount of Cognitive dissidence. On one hand, the DoD ordered him to do it. He had no choice, the DoD made him do it. While at the same time believing, they have to kiss his ass so that he doesn't "make them pay the price".

How can someone force someone else to do something, if the person being forced can force the first person to do something ?!? I'd ask the person you're quoting, but I doubt they have the facilities to see how irrational such conflicting thoughts are.
