Man Arrested After Video Shows Brutal Beating Of Pregnant, Endangered Seal

This is why we need to separate man from the animal kingdom.

HONOLULU — A Hawaii man was arrested Thursday after video allegedly showing him beating an endangered and pregnant Hawaiian monk seal went viral.

Shylo Akuna, 19, of Eleele, Kauai, was charged under federal law with harassing the seal after an investigation by the Hawaii Department of Land And Natural Resources, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Kauai Police Department. Authorities said eyewitness accounts and videos led them to the suspect.

The violent encounter occurred Tuesday evening at Salt Pond Beach Park on the island of Kauai. Bystanders took video of a man brutally punching and slapping the monk seal and notified police. By the time officers arrived, the suspect was gone.

Akuna faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000 if convicted of harassing the monk seal, which is protected under the Endangered Species Act.

I live in a place, where you arent allowed to kill animals.. We have during certain months lots of foreigners from Asia working, and they see our well feed ducks, geese, deers, fish.. And they say, in my country we would eat them. And i always reply;" We used to sacrifice humans, touch nature and the used to will change to now " So whenever you a influx from a different culture, the first thing they are taught.." Well it is not, its just that you cant just kill for the sake of killing. Its similar to, its adaptation to the surroundings, if you are provided, there is no need to act as an animal.

Baby seal clubbing is the most horrid one for me (they face is gorgeous it breaks my heart) and Dolphins in Japan (not a big fan but still ) we made a petition on FB but we didn't make it we try every year that is why I joined ATS it has the best platform for success on all these type of issues yet somehow the pithiness is there and there is no goal or conclusion in any thread (it's like even if you disagree people can't negotiate an outcome . If it doesn't work here how can we winge about people in charge in real life)

while not ideal its ok to kill and eat animals, i just had some duck fat fried hashbrowns today they were delicious, you do know that plants process pain, comminicate via roots and other methods, and in theory may have memorys, should we stop eating those as well? or because they have no eyes its ok
