Breaking News: Springfield officer shot, in serious condition. Search for suspect underway

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -
Springfield police say an officer is being treated for serious injuries after being shot early Monday morning on the city's north side.

Police say the officer was responding to a "check person" call near the intersection of Glenstone Avenue and Chestnut Expressway around 1:30 am. That's when the male suspect pulled a gun and shot the officer. That officer is in stable condition at Mercy Hospital, according to the department.

Police have fanned out across the area looking for the suspect, who they say fled on foot. A helicopter is being utilized in the search. A description of the shooter was not immediately available.

Westbound lanes of Chestnut have been blocked off until further notice as police canvass the area for the suspect.

This story is developing. We will bring you more details once we get them.

KTTS news - Police Officer Shot In Springfield, Active Search For Shooter Continues

KOLR News - Police Officer Shot, Wounded Overnight in Springfield

Thoughts and prayers for the officer shot (in Critical but stable condition) and for those actively searching for the suspect.

This was a check a person call. It means someone, or the officer, saw this individual acting in a suspicious manner. The officer was checking on the individual when he was shot.

I raise this point to demonstrate, again, how quickly a call can go to crap - within seconds.

Thoughts and prayers for this officer for sure but more so for the civilians who will no doubt witness a more ruthless and militarized police force because of isolated cases that have been happening since the dawn of mankind. Every time a cop is shot, an armored personnel carrier finds a loving home. Stop shooting cops.

Been through Springfield a handful of times over the years, and have family there. Hopefully the situation is resolved without any further loss of life and the shooter is brought to justice. Hoping for a strong recovery by the officer.

And hopefully this thread makes it further without anybody else turning it into a political statement.

I bet it was Snake! Everyone knows he's the number one criminal since Sideshow Bob reformed.

Revenue raiser down, someone will have to hand out a few extra tickets this month.

All my hopes for a speedy recovery for this officer. However, this is yet another example of why folks here keep stating that every stop or inquiry a police officer makes is a life or death situation. It takes mere second from talking to shot....is it any wonder the police are "on edge"? Personally, I think they need a standard rotation of duties....from street to community service to desk job. That allows time for stress reduction, and meeting the public in less than tense situations on a regular basis.

Wish we got a thread every time an innocent person gets brutalized or killed by a cop.

Considering the number of threads that crop up whenever a cop shoots somebody, shoots a dog, or uses any level of force including unkind words to somebody, that's a hysterical statement to make.

Might not be every time, but there's a bunch. Use the search function

Maybe lots of people just see through the illusion you obviously don't.

Police are guardians of corrupt states, they don't protect the people. They are revenue raisers and investigators after the crime is committed.

Could be double the police and if I wanted you dead, you'd still be dead. Brainwashed people live in a "police keep us safe" delusion.

Oh I'm sorry, was this Officer a killer? Did he kill anyone? Shoot anyone? Ever? Which Death Squad was he a part of?

This is a guy with a family, not just some jack-booted thug. Generalize less, please.

Which has nothing to do with this incident so any chance you and the others could be less of an ass?

Now maybe, just maybe, some of the people that post the comments in other cases of 'Why didn't they just shoot the guy in the leg?' will understand why criminals get shot and killed.
Police officers face this threat daily and they never know what might be coming.
I hope they throw the book at the bad guy in this case.

Dude is probably drunk and thought some Chinese food would be a great breakfast.

Glad they were able to take him into custody. Well done
