I want my emoticons back!

And seeing as we've come so far.......

I am really, really confused about this. SO has always had such good taste, ya know? I like the way he designs the site, the colors he selects, the icons and such. And he's always been so open to the opinion of membership.

But this? He has stuck us with these absolutely HIDEOUS and essentially MEANINGLESS emo's? Some of the old ones had more expression in a face, than one cared to write in a sentence! Saved me from conflict too, at times. Just roll my eyes, instead of trying to express something verbally. The sad blue face. The dancing banana. Banging the head against a brick wall. Sorry face. Yes, that too.

If everybody is going to upload them and use them anyway, then why not just give them back.

Seriously. Just give them back. At least a few.

I'm kind of surprised as this is the first rant I've seen that actually seemed to accomplish something. Even if it's a workaround it still works.

Hopefully Springer won't see this thread.

I totally agree with you, the old ATS smilies were the best smilies on the entire internet imo. That is why I created a script to restore the old smilies, among other things. It works on Firefox (using greasemonkey) and Chrome (using Tampermonkey).

I remember that, I had that installed before and then it all went away. Thought it was something ATS did and could never get it going again.

I just clicked the install button for the script and got a page showing the script. Doesn't seem installed though. Using FF 31.0 w/grease monkey. I'll try a restart on FF to see if that works. Thanks!

If you already have greasemonkey installed then when you click the install button it should show you a prompt asking for confirmation. If it isn't doing that, it might be because you have JavaScript disabled on that page or something. If you have NoScript installed make sure to allow openuserjs.org.

Allowing openuserjs.org in NoScript took care of it. Yay!!

Hopefully everyone who has had this "problem" will install your script.

As a long time internet junkie, I have to agree that ATS has the worst emoticons of all time

I just downloaded Tampermonkey, and think I installed the Tweak -
just testing now...

I pulled up a 'quote' to see how you all embedded it - and it appears that there is a string that starts with [ ats ] --
how do I get to that string?

I'm not real savvy on tweaking things like this...

Okay, now I'm pretty certain I have Tampermonkey AND the Tweak script running (at least the icon shows that I do in the location bar).

I tried rebooting, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.
There is a super-fast illegible box that comes up and then disappears (I'm on a laptop) when I click 'install' - but my Chrome bar indicates that it IS running.

But the emoticons look the same??

I noticed the script says it serves to "replace" the new smileys with the old ones (YAY!!!) - so, I should just be able to see the old-skool-smileys, now - is that right??

I know it's not going to happen, but if good emoticons do come back, these would fit in on ATS
