In a world deep in speculation about the movements of military forces and threats of terrorism a forgotten threat again shows its ugly face. China shows it is very unhappy about the current issues between itself, the U.S.A. and Tiawan. A former Chinese President told Condoleezza Rice just how serious this situation is in a subtile but effective way.. Tiawan sovereignty will never be tolerated. and what could be seen more as a threat than an expression of displeasure...

Bloomberg.com

Jiang Zemin, former chinese president who now heads the military, told U.S. National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice that China is unhappy about U.S. plans to sell advanced weapons to Taiwan, the official Xinhua news agency said after the two met in Bejing yesterday.

Jiang told Rice that Tiawan remains the "most vital and most sensitive issue in Sino-U.S. relations," the government agency said. Tiawan sovereignty will never be tolerated," he said.

"if Taiwan authorities go their own way toward independance" Jang was quoted as saying in the official account of the meeting, "and if foreign forces step in, we will never sit by and watch"

In my view if the U.S.A. continues to support and defend Tiawan against the wishes of China the threat of conflict will grow far beyond the speculation.

China has made it clear today to National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice that there will be no independence or sovereignty for Tiawan. Rice was on a 24 hour visit in the region.

This has the potential to explode into a conflict and could lead to a cooling of relations between Washington and the world's most populous nation.. or worse the relations could become hostile.

We will have to watch this one and see how it evolves.. The challenges for the next President of the United States of America are growing.. and none can be bigger at the moment than a potential conflict with China.

Yep, i was posting this more or less at the same time that Gazz did, but I took too long looking for other related links, hehe.

Here are the links and my statements on the information that was given at the news sources, as i will ask a mod or editor to delete my thread.

" Jiang Zemin told the visiting US National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice that China will not sit by and let the US or any other foreign forces support Taiwan's independance. Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing also spoke to Rice about the sensitivity of this issue for the Chinese and urged that the U.S. should halt military and official relations with Taiwan.

According to the report, Rice declared, on behalf of our president, our continuing commitment to the obligation under the Taiwan Relations Act. But China still considers Taiwan part of its territory, and refused to recognize the 55 years of de-facto independance that marked their separation at the end of the civil war in 1949.

Iraq and North Korea were also discussed in the meetings, but the U.S. sees China as a partner, in this issue, in trying to shut down NK's nuclear weapons facilities. "

In response to the above report the U.S.A. has now made it clear that it stands by its commitments to help Tiawan's Defence. This is not good people. China could react strongly to this. But we will have to watch this developing story.. please click the following link for more..

ABCNEWS.com

July 8, 2004 BEIJING (Reuters) - U.S. national security adviser Condoleezza Rice was due to meet Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday after a day of talks in which other Chinese leaders chastised Washington for selling high-tech arms to Taiwan.

Rice arrived in Beijing from Tokyo on Thursday and was scheduled to head to Seoul at about midday on Friday on the last leg of a short visit to Asia that many expected to focus on the North Korean nuclear crisis.

In meetings on Thursday with China's military leader Jiang Zemin and Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, however, tension over self-ruled Taiwan, the mainland's arch-foe, appeared to take center stage. Jiang told Rice China would "not sit back and watch and do nothing if the Taiwan authorities cling obstinately to their push for Taiwan independence and if foreign forces meddle and support" the island, Chinese state television reported.

A last minuet effort at diplomacy?

China is not happy... but their mood is not as worrisome as their stance on Tiawan. and it seems that Rice has been given little to bargain with the Chinese over the issue of high tech weapons and Tiawan.

Are we pushing China too hard here? or is there a real urgent need to help Tiawan defend its nation and people with U.S. made high tech weapons?

The Chinese could compare their fears to that of the U.S.A. when it was found that the Russians were massing weapons in Cuba just before the Cuban missile crisis of the 1960's.

Only the reaction from this Chinese communist nation may be more hostile and less diplomatic... but again only time will tell.

Get a grip. China threating Taiwan is like Bod Dole threating rape without his bottle of Viagra.
Bottom Line is this:
Unless China is prepared to accept the consequences of loosing its biggest trading partner over Taiwan they can sabre rattle all they want. Sure they may have the biggest standing army in the world, but they have no ability to transport them anywere. As i have maintained in previous posts, they could launch a series of missile strikes and decimate Taiwan, but then they would loose out on the economic benifits. How are they ever going to afford all those military toys without our money?????

Sure, China will lost the biggest Customoer US. So US will lose its provider of cheap credit, and propel US strong economy.

The other thing I can also assure you: All-out war with China, US will lose also its superpower status and its domination around the world.

Think it hard: Will US rather lose Taiwan or lose the whole world?

What U.S. domination around the world? We are not the Roman empire that conquered and kept parts of the world....We gave Iraq to the Iraqis and the Iraqis asked us to keep our soldiers there until they can sort everything out.... When we ousted the Haiti president earlier this year we did not keep Haiti as part of our empire. So where is this U.S empire you are talking about around the world?

All out war with China will will have planet wide consequences. If we went at it say tonight. China has the ability to hit 20+ cities with its ICBM's maybe a few less if the missile shield gets opertionsal and works. The US retliation would esential burn China down to the bedrock. Howver, the global consequences of all that fallout would be devasating. However, that the leadership of China is no crazy. The leaders are alot of things but I firmly believe that they are not insane. Yes we may loose some of our debt but other countries would pick up the slack. Thailand etc would be more than happy no doubt to jump in a take jobs away from China. China can ill afford to loose all of the hard currency that thier trade brings.

Yes the US would support Taiwans democracy aginst the communist mainland. I doubt we would loose our superpower status, but if we failed to support Taiwan, we would loose credibility. and thus loose superpower status.

maintain US support for Twn just enough to keep it as a bargaining chip.

Chen SB just won another term so he shld be happy for sometime and play his part in seeking independance without going overboard.

China is happy.

meanwhile, US, Russia, China etc need to sort out the rogue duo-N Kore and Iran.

once that is done, maybe they can come back to the Twn issue if they want to.

hows that?

Yes. US is not for land grab, but that country has to follow the will and strategy of US. Those goes out of line will be listed in "Nation assisting Terra". And you say this is not for world domination?

Just see what US currently do in Venezula, Georgia, Iraq, Haiti, etc.
Please do not Haiti former president is democratically elect. Those millitants are criminals with direct assistance from US.

Our old saying says it all: "Be a Prostitute, yet Pretend to be Vergin Mary"

Hmmm according to Global Security, China has 24 D-5's The DF-31 is listed as a ? So since i do not have a top secret clearence (damm it) I have to go with open source literature on the matter. However, I was refering to a nuclear exchange with the US. If it were regional it would be a whole different matter for both sides

"Chen SB just won another term "

The truth is: Taiwan is now divided by Chen SB's (Idiot) faked assasination to get elected.

A divided and weakened Taiwan is better for China Unification war, which I think is inevitable.

"China has 24 D-5's The DF-31 is listed as a ?"

So you mean ? should be between -4 to 5?

Do you ever heard of DF-41, JL-2, 094?

I can assure you that US can destroy China, China can also destroy US.
Yet it is true: China do not have capability to destroy the world.

"China can ill afford to loose all of the hard currency that thier trade brings. "

You mean the products China shipped to US does not worth anything? China can sell them to other countries, at the same time US inflation rate will be tripled.

the numbers of icbm's and other nuclear missles could easily all be intercepted when our abm shield is set up(in japan, south korea, australia, in the pacific and alaska) china wont be much a threat then.

ps: manufacturing creates reliance and if we decided to embargo chinese goods or stopped buying from china, we will damage chinas economy.
