There have been a lot of allegations recently that the new George Lucas film Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith has blantent political overtones comparing Bush and the War on Terror to the conversion of the Galactic Republic to the Galactic Empire.

Quotes like "If you're not with me, then you're my enemy" and "This is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause" have been likened to a post-9/11 Bush quote and controversy surrounding the USA Patriot Act.

Lucas seems to be laughing off the connection, saying much of the screenplay was written before Bush became president...but he also is taking advantage of the comparisons in the European, especially French, market where anti-American films garner much popularity and attention.

I don't really see the problem if those quotes were taken from Bush. If the quotes are applicable in the movie, as they seem to be, then why not use them? Pretty much every piece of art, book, or movie takes overtones from the current government and society in which it was written. Why expect this to be different?

Is it anti-Bush? I doubt it is explicitly, maybe Lucas is, but who doesn't have an opinion. Is it influenced by current and past administrations? I'm sure it is.

Was the movie "the Ten Commandments" anti-Bush?

It was made in 1956, but in the movie...they burned a bush.

Plot Outline: The Egyptian Prince, Moses, learns of his true heritage as a Hebrew and his divine mission as the deliverer of his people

Does Bush think he is OUR deliverer?

Charlton Heston .... Moses/Voice of God

Does Bush think he is the voice of God?

This movie had to have been written by psychics.

Disclamer: This is proof of how easy it is to see what you want in something.

Yeah, it is funny. I haven't seen the movie yet myself, so I'm just commenting on the analysis I've seen on TV and online, it's not my opinion yet.

I can see it, Dick Cheney is Senator Palpitine(sp?) and Bush is Anakin, once a good fellow, turned evil. The Empire is the US Army being used for wrong/evil purposes, the Jedi/rebels/whatever are the democrats, anti-war Europeans, basically anyone not evil/corrupt, and Yoda is Hillary Clinton, except prettier.

And who is Jar Jar Binks?

I have a feeling it's a very colourful person.

Lucas laughed it off? That wasn't what I heard.
Lucas also said...

www.truthout.org...
When he conceived his series of films in the 1970s, he says, he was thinking about Vietnam and Nixon, investigating "democracy, and how a senate could give itself over, could surrender itself to a dictator".

He found historical echoes down the ages. "I looked at ancient Rome, and how, having got rid of kings, the Senate ended up with Caesar's nephew as emperor ... how democracy turns itself into a dictatorship. I also looked at revolutionary France ... and Hitler.

"It tends to follow similar patterns. Threats from outside leading to the need for more control; democracy not being able to function properly because of internal squabbling."

"I hope that situation never arises in our country," he said. "Maybe the film will awaken people to this danger."

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahha hahahahahahahahahahhahahahaahhah aha!

People make up the silliest things. This movie is about a republic being taken over by a few evil individuals taking over a superpower under a threat, They must be talking about Bush!
Forget the numerous other times in history when superpowers were taken over (Rome, France, Germany) they must be referring to the current administration! Of course it all makes sense now! And the Wookies are symbolically referring to Abu Garaib and Guatamono Bay

SOME people may argue THAT point......my son included
He thinks Yoda has it ALL goin on, and Hillary is pretty scarey looking....but there is something to be said about the personal choices of a 12 year old, and Star Wars is way above the Clinton family members in his young opinion.
He is telling me he would WAY rather kiss Yoda than scarey Hillery

That makes me feel bad for Hillary really......I would about CRY if I was told Yoda was hotter than me......

(AP) Lucas said he patterned his story after historical transformations from freedom to fascism, never figuring when he started his prequel trilogy in the late 1990s that current events might parallel his space fantasy.

"As you go through history, I didn't think it was going to get quite this close. So it's just one of those recurring things," Lucas said at a Cannes news conference. "I hope this doesn't come true in our country.

"Maybe the film will waken people to the situation," Lucas joked.

Recurring things is the key! It is happening here in your own country yet many still will not believe it. That is until it is to late. If you support Bush now one day you will deny it, but the people around you will never let you forget it, unil your hanged for being a traitor that is.

Mwahahahahaha!!!!!! It is a great movie, I never thought about it. I was just so "Cool, Jeff has a cable modem, we get to see this weeks before anyone else does!" to even think about this.

Anyways, is it sad that HITLER was voted in by the majority of the people, yet Bush wasn't, the first time.

Also, recurring things, is that anything like "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."??

Hitler didn't win by a majority per se, he had more votes than the other candidates but it wasn't a majority or even close to half of the votes ( not sure on the specifics though) Besides most of star wars was conceived before 9/11 and the events it has spurned in our country since then. He way have gotten some ideas to fine tune the movie from current events but like it has been said above you can find parallels to the events in star wars and current trends in our country all through out history. Besides people should be more concern with why exactly do they instantly relate the events in star wars to our present administrations know what I mean?

I don’t know if I phrase it right, but it’s kind of like a “if the shoe fits” situation.

I've read where lucas mentions the major themes are how a person can be turned to evil, and how a democracy can be transformed into a dictatorship.
I don't think he intentionally put things in there to bash bush.

Hayden Christianson fanned the flames when he said the french will love some of the quotes in the movie.

I just want to see annakin become vader, and yoda kick some but

I've heard him say this also and if peole still find think this pertain to bush is says amore about Bush and our present state of affairs than it does about any intent of Lucas to bash him. It's like if something starts talking about a certain subject without mentioning any names or directing it at anybody and you automatically address it to somebody there has to be something behind that.

Anyways, on the news, just saw video of GOP leaders going on about how Lucas/SW3 is attacking the Bush Administration and the film must be stopped. How? Trying to raise the rating from pg-13 to R to keep more people from seeing it. SO sad the GOP considers it a threat/attack on Bush.

The title of the news thingy? Darth Bush.

What news station was it do they have a web-site? I think that the more they say this movie criticizes Bush the more they make it seem that Bush is Chancelor Palpatine. I mean would they be making these accusations if Bush wasn't so darned controversial

lol it's kinda of funny isn't it, lol

but it' like I said supposed your talking about genocide and the first name to come to mind is Hitler with out no one specifically mentioning him

then supposed to your talking about "loose" women and a porn star or personal acquaintance of loose standard comes to mind.

Now we are talking about the events of revenge of the sith and the gradual turn from democracy to a dictatorship through manipulating a foreign threat to suit your aspirations for personal power and Bush comes to mind without nobody mentioning him, there has to be something to it.

NBC 24 of Toledo, Toledo's Weather Center.

Anyways, yes it is sad/funny, people talk/think of corruption and evil and they think of Bush.
