I agree to an extent Adam....

The only issue with all this new age consciousness stuff is people's interpretation of it. They start down the right path then just go into proper lala land with it and its initial value in answering questions about the phenomenon diminishes, Grant Cameron is a prime example of this.

On a scientific level everything is connected in terms of its potential origins, from the hippy new age stuff it's all one love and all that crap. Simple example of how it gets skewed.

There will be some interesting times ahead when it comes to quantum computing going full speed and properly developed in terms of the phenomenon. I believe it will unlock more answers but ultimately more questions, purely down to how they actually process information and connected with some.of the points in your post.

I don't know. The "bad guys" thing is a tough one, it comes down to culture and whether your culture requires you to go against your "gut" instinct, that internal barometer that makes people stop what they're doing and think. Belief systems are very important in over-riding that. And then there are those individuals amongst us who want to inflict suffering on others, or have no feelings, or empathy for others...there is no "good" or "bad" for them, not in the wider sense, only in the personal. If it means prison, or incarceration, it may be bad, but if not, why not. In amongst all that, we have very neuro-typical types who do not, or cannot, understand minds that operate very differently to their own and that can fascinate and thrill some people, and it can also inspire others to make use of the latent abilities of those with that type of wiring. Just because you don't get the blood on your own hands doesn't make you any less responsible for it's shedding. IMO. You can be willing to sell your own Nan, but someone has to offer to buy, there needs to be a market for Nans. Know what I mean?

And it's important to bear in mind that none of this, however much it may seem as though it is for those directly involved, is going on in isolation and yet, strangely, it was...and is. There is something very, very odd about the ancient aliens thing, the council of nine and Andrija Puharich. It seems to me, potentially, that Puharich was both an experimenter and a subject. I am not sure though if it was a CIA operation though...perhaps MI6, Soviets or, I'm wondering, Mossad. Perhaps for more benevolent reasons...perhaps not...but there is something very odd, and literary going on with all that...theosophical for sure...But that at just the right time a faked Papyrus turns up referring to flaming disks, somewhat building the story in the background and reinforming what Dr D G Vidod has been channelling, seems awfully well planned...and I can't help but feel that there is a British air to the whole thing...

But I digress, Rendlesham...when I was looking back over the Lakenheath-Bentwaters episode back in the fifties that has since, thanks to David Clarke et al, now been confirmed as involving a near-miss and a spy plane (a spy plane that at that time would have been flying in direct contravention of Presidential orders, it also seems)...there are still fairly solid sightings of light phenomenon. Which for me, at least, still leaves room in the RFI for there to have been a phenomenonal, of the recurring kind, element...whatever else it might have or have not been...so that, to me suggests that either to region is phenomenonal, or the planes (or pilots) are.

I still think, given the courtship that the RFI "subjects" have experienced, still points me to believe that there is no one that really knows what went on...just parts of parts...

I know Adam was only speculating of course. But I agree and that 'interpretation angle' makes it closer to religion than science unfortunately.

This 'consciousness' trend has been seeded into ufology over the last few years. Even once seemingly rational people have gone all la la about it. I actually think it's because they know there is no physical proof of aliens visiting Earth and this opens up more 'marketing opportunities'. Plenty of storytelling opportunities and the naysayer and debunkers can be dismissed as being unable to 'see' the truth. Do these people possess any real scientific qualifications to talk confidently on the subject? Are there any ufologists outside of the North America bleating on about it?

It is a big problem and it opens up the field to being unable to falsify anything unless people are very careful about how they take this forward. Too many UFO personalities are proclaiming this is the future. But just because you believe something or want something to be real doesn't mean your consciousness creates it!

Plasma is a state of matter where atoms have been stripped of their electrons. It cannot form electron bonds and any form of complexity. So it certainly isn't intelligent life as we know it. Could it affect or interact with human consciousness? Maybe. Do we really know how?

We are all connected because we are made of the stuff that came from the stars. Just as we were created from the cells of our parents. But that doesn't mean telepathy is real, we can communicate with the Sun or go to Mars in our minds and come back before we even left.

I'll keep an open mind about 'consciousness' studies and the effects of 'plasma' on us. But I'll wait for hard scientific data and studies rather than a popular ufotainer telling me that they heard an alien talking in their head.

You should try Qigong as this is a practice, and not a religion. This imo, is where some of the answers hide.

It is through these backdoor studies of such things that this technology has derived, from various experiments which can be and are being utilised today in the form of emerging cognitive neurosciences.
They are related to consciousness but I don't let the religious aspect dull ones thinking because this is exactly what religion does. Although I give a hats of to the communication with a higher form which is described in the world's most sold book, read by by billions, I beg to differ with it's final edit.

The idea behind this; your consciousness creates it, again IMO comes from what we see around us, in the form of evolutionary achievements. Thinking, then doing. and then achieving. The obvious being, the duality between helping each other or hurting each other. a mindset. And mindsets CAN be easily manipulated over time.
Propaganda never died, it just changes form. Similar to Energy apparently!
Everything comes from our from the process of thought, even religion to what is being discussed here.
It plays a rather fundamental role in everything we see around us and it is trying to understand what it is and how it works. Ever tried to draw a picture of consciousness. Difficult, but it's there. Ripe research for the inquisitive.Energy frequency, vibration is a good starting point. Never take a yes or no as an answer to everything.

Physicists like Bohr and Einstein had a real struggle coming to terms with the notion that reality could not be objectively perceived and therefore observed. Over and over again this has been demonstrated to be a truth of our reality, we cannot step outside of reality because we are always a part of it. Protagoras however, in the 4th century BCE seemed already to have cottoned on, "man is the measure of all thing," he said, and we are, because we, behaviourally, as a species, find it necessary to quantify, qualify, explore, understand and explain. It is fundamental to our being, and as such we have developed ways in which to "see" beyond our biological perceptions and at the same time, ways in which to show to others, and share that perception. Along the way though groups and individuals have kept discoveries to themselves in order to seperate and elevate themselves above others, this leads to a knowledge gap and the need to enforce false paradigms that support two (or more) human realities.

Over time, the boundaries between these two paradigm realities breaks down, the fake control system loses control, tries to enforce it, becomes ever more oppressive and eventually the oppressed rise up. That's what happens when you don't share, people are forced to take, but whatever actual progress that the few had made, "seeing" wise, gets lost, misunderstand, or blindly idolised. And so it goes...

We, as a species, are not in isolation, we live in a very densely populated biosphere. Our every individual action puts forth a complex set of interactions with our environment, most of which is completely invisible to us. We have, over time, tried, as a species, to remove ourselves from as many of those interactions as we possibly can. Often fearfully. We build walls, put roofs over them, close doors, seal windows and cracks, spray chemicals...all to distance and seperate ourselves, to create an internal and an external, where there can never, ever be one. And, naturally, many people understand and feel the wrongness in this, that we cannot live and not let live, others think that the human will is greater than the will of the environment, and should be overcome, tamed and harnessed.

What the people behind Hitler realised was that the twilight was when people, tired from work but sated having had their evening meal, were most receptive to manipulation. The flame light helped of course, old school there, but what also helped was the Jesuit education that Germany enjoyed. From Ignatius Loyola's excercises a whole body of study had evolved which enabled an understanding of how behaviours could be changed. They understood that even if they didn't understand what was being said, or even agreed with what was being said, that they could be lulled into a trance and then spun into a rapturous mass by an emotive speaker who knew how to build his speech into a crescendo. Now, it is no conicidence that the highest tv advertising rates have traditionally been in that post-dinner slot. Or that the programming designed around those slots are so heavily influenced by the advertisers. Propaganda is everywhere, in every aspect of our lives, we call it advertising, marketing, PR, branding...whatever. And it's killing us...all of us, whether we watch it or not, shut it out or not...

Being equally short and sweet...I'm all for raising our collective consciousness of our shared reality, it really, really needs our desperate attention, but less enamoured of those who want to gaze at their navels and imagine "connectiveness" when all they need to do is take a deep breath and experience it. That oxygen we need so much of doesn't just appear, lots and lots of work going on in the background that we have all the knowledge that we need to appreciate and perhaps support instead of trying to destroy those creating it for us to be shared. Same goes for all the precious processes, inside and out, that work like the devil synthesising and catalysising. We'd be lost without them, so perhaps have a little consciousness for them.

I'm a huge fan of Steven Mithen. In The Prehistory of the Mind: The Cognitive Origins of Art, Religion and Science, he managed to draw, and explain, a pretty good picture of human consciousness. As is my perogative, I don't necessarily agree with all his conclusions, but he's a damn good read.

I personally don't actually feel that "consciousness" is a huge deal. To me all life is conscious to some degree or another, I am never alone, there is always a spider for company, and they are aware of me, as I am aware of them and my awareness is in no way superior, just different. We are capable of demonstrating that frogs, birds, insects etc, have very different sensory experiences of reality to us, and this has enabled us to understand that some aspects of reality are invisible to us.

We had a new CCTv system installed at work, high-definition even at night. I can lose hours watching the footage at night on play-back. Infra-red has illuminated a whole reality I was previously unaware of, that comes to life as soon as the doors are shut and the lights switched off. Sometimes, especially when there's co-ordinated activity of insect groups, it takes my breath away, because seldom can you actually see a form, all you see is their light, visible only in infra-red, there's one lot, who launch out in a fan formation, leaving long tentacles of faint light in their wake. I love those. Far, far, far more interesting than the human activity that I could watch with the outside cameras.

Before we had this camera system I just had no idea that I worked in a micro-ecosystem that supported a whole variety of voracious predators and their prey. It has truly broadened my understanding. The "tentacles" are, essentially, an illusion. I don't know what it is, what type of creature, but the system, be it the cameras or the monitor, can't quite capture whatever low levels of uv light it carries, so it kind of just records it's wake. It may even be lime dust falling, disturbed by something larger waking up in the rafters above, bats or the like, but whatever it is, it always makes the same patterns whenever it does what it does, giving the appearance of synchronisation. Moths are a huge ball of light by comparison, lots of uv power there. Bees and flies show up pretty hot looking too. Could be spiders, thin spindly ones, throwing forth their fishing lines. Who knows? Just adds to the magic and mystery, there's always something new to uncover and learn about, even if others have learnt it before.

I was a big fan of 'Twin Peaks' (1990-91), especially when the UFO/High Strangeness angle was amplified during Season 2, although this arguably led to a ratings suicide as viewers' jaws dropped and their brains fried watching a series ahead of its time in various ways (not least in promoting shows with a more distinct visual style).

As soon as an eccentric ex-Bluebook Army Major informs Agent Cooper that SETI received an alien message addressed to Cooper stating, "The owls are not what they seem" (a Native Indian reference but also feasibly a nod to Strieber's 'Communion'), we are plunged into a 'Skinwalker Ranch'-style buffet of High Strangeness some four years before the Shermans bought their Utah property. The source is not Outer Space, rather a Black Lodge deep within a forest housing an inter-dimensional portal encompassing evil, murderous beings. When Cooper succumbs to the Lodge in the finale... the series is duly cancelled.

I haven't seen the new Season 3, but I imagine Lynch and Mark Frost continued the themes as if 25 years or so had not elapsed. All I know is that Conspiracy Theory forms a backbone for the new batch of episodes - not surprising considering its original influence on 'The X-Files' (including David Duchovny as an FBI agent in both, among other cast members). After all, Area-51, Roswell and Strieber were all hot news by 1990/91, so I can see how Lynch and Frost were thematically seduced, and wouldn't be surprised if the central forest was a nod to Rendlesham.

So the 'results' have been manipulated to fit a story. There are no decimal points in the co-ordinates and the spellings were inaccurate. Although everyone should be allowed to make their own minds up.

I think that the real origin of this concept is GrillFlame - the fact that a binary approach was used for outcomes to reduce errors, and coordinates for targeting were stored as binary code.

Whoever trusted their important message with their special process to a human mind can't have been that bothered. Clearly the process is VERY error prone. The contents therefore are probably not important.

If the code is from the RFI time period, then the real importance must be the procedure to transfer the code to Penniston's mind. The message itself being less important.

My personal opinion is that there is no way that the message is genuine or from the RFI. I strongly suspect the message has less provenance than the MJ12 documents.

For the sake of argument, if there is ever another RFI thread, I'd suggest things post RFI get relegated to outside the thread

Consider that it probably wasn't meant for human consumption and had to be refined by a computer to make sense of it all. Jim's mind would not have been sophisticated enough to deal with binary codes in 1980. Not many people over the age of 20 would understand it back then. So keep an open mind people.

On /pi/: Isn’t this just 0.122719 multiplied by 25.6? But naturally 25.6 doesn't have quite as much significance as 256 (or 23.5). Also, why would one multiply 6,480 by 4? Why not 10? 8?

Call me open-minded about many things but my goodness I loathe this kind of stuff. And wasn't Hy Brasil actually Woodbridge Town Hall?

I've put both series in my Amazon basket for next time I do a shop...I really must watch it again, I remember it having impacted on me at the time, and it leading me into Lynch's film work. It's good that he is less angry these days. Anger isn't good for anyone, even righteous anger, or perhaps especially, however justified. Either way, it is seldom productive.

The interdimensional portal is an old device, literary wise, probably not that much younger than literature itself. In terms of science-fiction though, Margaret Cavendish in Blazing World placed her's in the Artic north. Cavendish was inspired by the worlds that the Gresham College/Royal Society scientists were revealing utilising the new technology of lenses. Her "portal" serves as a metaphor inviting her readers to see into worlds within and without our own, how they might compare and contrast. Heinlein, in Tunnel in the Sky, on the other hand uses such a device to illustrate how removed we are from our environment and how vulnerable that makes us when all that we cling to as "civilised" is removed from us. It is a useful device however it is used, allowing the writer/artist to communicate ideas that a more mundane reality would not allow. Heinlein was exceptionally good at that. I wouldn't want to live though in any of his created realities, and they are very much, as is Cavendish, a reflection of their time.

TV and film is different of course, you're presenting images and not necessarily with words, more often with emotional responses of the human actors. For that reason it is far more immersive, the symbolism, like any art produced for mass consumption, is explicit not implicit. It may present very outlandish ideas but because of the way in which our minds relate to expressed emotions, the way music plays a part in framing our emotional susceptibility it can be said that we experience film more basally and therefore it impacts us with a sense of having been there in the moment, making our experience of it seem more "real".

Long story short...the black lodge high-strangeness, the reverse speaking dwarf...I got what metaphorical meaning if not the culturally specific references.

So, I am though now wondering, as I always am, the owls not being what they seem, has Lynch or someone involved in the construction of that arc been invited to Bohemian Grove? That's the only owl that I know of that isn't what it seems.

Mike Clelland's book "Stories of the messengers" depicts many peoples encounters with high strangeness with visitations by owls etc. That I think is a thread within itself and not an ideology I subscribe to, interesting none-the less.
