...I am a customer service rep for bcbs.
So I guess if anyone has any questions I can try to answer, but I am only a rep for group polices (thru an employer) not individual. I don't have any training in those types of policies, but I can try to answer questions to the best of my ability.

How many group policies?

California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones announced Tuesday that Blue Cross Blue Shield California will delay its individual policy cancellations until March 31, 2014, granting policy holders a 90-day extension.

I truly believe that Obamacare is set in place to make everyone even more poor, and essentially pissed....which will then cause an uprise, which will then cause martial law!

Well the lame excuses are like butt holes everybody have one, he is trying to change his original statement of keeping your insurance if you like it.

I guess the Democratic party needs to keep itself distanced from the ACA fiasco because it can hurt the next big elections.

The dropping of insurance policies is the retaliation the insurance business is doing against ACA and they are going to benefit with it as they will come back selling more expensive plans with the excuse that is qualifying under the ACA.

Meanwhile people forget that insurance companies Will also be the recipients of billions of dollars on subsidies pay directly to them, so they are to win two times, their record profits have to be protected anyway they can.





Hmmh, Virginia was a clean sweep for the Democrats. Do you have any more sage advice?

Is it possible people can stop referring to this as Blue Cross Blue Shield when in actuality we are talking about one of the sleazy for profit companies that bought one of the Blue Cross or Blue Shield entities years ago.

I didn't want to add fuel to the fire, but I have one of the real Blue Shield policies, i.e. from one of the remaining not-for-profit companies. I am grandfathered in the plan. They encouraged me to look at the California exchange (which works fine), but I can also do nothing. My plan is exactly that. Do nothing other than pay the bill. I'm going to let the dust settle before changing anything, if at all.

If you have a problem with Blue Cross or Blue Sheild, you really have a problem with the garbage that runs the parent companies like Wellpoint or Anthem. Aim your hatred at Bill McGuire, Rick Scott and similar vermin, not at POTUS or the large D Democrats.

I disagree with your " real change " statement...

While medical suppliers, pharmaceutical companies, insurance company's pull in record PROFITS for their wealthy stock holders, the people get the shaft.....

You would seem to think that the GOV would intervene with the gouging of the people instead of assisting it.

Dont' blame the Democrats. The ACA is a copy of a Republican governor's plan. It satisfies the usual Republican responsibility crap that people should pay their own way in life, even if they can't afford it. I think they should have extended Medicare to the whole population and make it free for everyone. But no insurance company or Republican would agree to that - besides putting insurance companies out of business, it would be, gasp, Socialism!


The claim that Dems modeled the nations ACA after a Republican governor's plan is even more disturbing. They couldn't come up with a plan on their own? Really, really tired of this pathetic excuse. The Dems own it. Why didn't Obama pass a single payer plan? He easily could have. Instead he has to model a plan after a Republican health care program? Sure, it would be no problem to pass a law that would put every healthcare insurer out of business. Hey, it is not like these companies have money for lobbyists or lawyers.

Why copy a plan that works when you can just make up one on your own. That is how aircraft are built. Nobody bothers to do see what worked in the past. Nah, you just punt and hope it all works.

BTW, that individual mandate? Hey, that was a Republican idea. They were for it before they were against it.

You clearly don't know much about socialism. I do. Allow me to enlighten you.

Socialism is not about 'equalizing everyone' - instead it states that all are born with the same rights and so, before the law, are to be treated equal. I believe that your "founding fathers" stated likewise and that Americans are proud of that - they should be.

You then say that socialism robs the working man and gives to the man that refuses to work. Instead, socialists clearly see the need for all to contribute to society and insist that all should try to contribute as well as they can. I believe that Americans also hold this in high regard.

Also, socialists know and acknowledge that stronger shoulders should carry the heavier burdens. A very well known socialist motto is "give what you can and take what you need." I believe that is not against the American way at all.

Then, socialists hate it when people that CAN'T contribute (because they are ill or old, for example) should beg to be allowed to take what they need. That's against human dignity according to socialists. So, yes, they think it is good that the State offers sufficient support to the ill and old - and we are all the State. I don't see anything wrong with that, do you?

In my book, a person that tries to work hard, contributes to society as well as s/he can and only takes for him/herself what is needed is a true socialist. Now, tell me: aren't you a socialist yourself, then?


Never worked.. will never work. Looks good on paper and in words but too easy to be exploited and has been. Ask people living in Russia, China or even people in Europe .. ahh you are from Europe .. well me, too - not anymore .. get a taste of real freedom and you will never go back there. The “man or other animals” definition violates a fundamental principle of the Jewish and Christian faiths which declare at Genesis 1:26-27 that on the 6th Day God created man—and only man—in His image, gave man “dominion” over the animals and thereby absolutely separated and distinguished man from animals. If man is only an animal, man has no hope of eternal salvation.


The “man or other animals” definition violates a fundamental principle of the Declaration of Independence which declares in part “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Insofar as state and federal laws define man to be an animal, they deprive him of his standing to claim God-given, unalienable Rights and thereby strip man of his claim to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.


By declaring man to be a mere “animal,” the government’s drug laws violate the First Amendment’s “establishment clause” and guarantee of the People’s right to “Freedom of religion”. I.e., by declaring the People to be “animals” the government “establishes” and imposes a “pagan religion” upon the People of the United States of America.


IMPLICATION: The drug laws, the resulting police state and prison industrial complex can be challenged and potentially diminished or even destroyed based on a FIRST AMENDMENT’s “freedom of religion”.



The attached text describes a lawsuit by the Texas Attorney General against seven defendants based on violation of Texas and federal health laws based on the manufacture and sale of colloidal silver. The text includes copies of relevant law that can be verified by any reader.


Each of the seven defendants are facing civil penalties of $25,000 per DAY ($750,000 per month, $9 million per year; EACH) even though the Texas Attorney General admits that after a seven-year investigation, they cannot find a single man, woman or child who has been injured, damaged or defrauded by the defendants and/or the defendant’s colloidal silver products.


The essential state and federal HEALTH LAWS both charge the defendants with “manufacturing or distributing drugs [in this case, colloidal silver] based on claims unapproved by the F.D.A. to man or other animals.”


The phrase “man or other animals” appears twice in the federal law, twice in the Texas law, and at least 17 more times in Texas and federal definitions.


Our government presumes us to “animals”. This is intolerable and cannot allowed to continue.

That is the conclusion I have come to, also. But for a different reason than you probably. The only fair way for all, is for all to have access. And since single payer is considered socialized medicine, that will never happen in the US. I will pay the penalty, go to the ER if I have to and file bankruptcy, and I also have my own end of life plan, since I am 62.

Unintended Consequence

This is not a 'lie' on the part of the Democrats or President Obama. This is an unintended consequence. The Health Insurance Corporations have been selling useless paper for decades. Policies with high deductibles, high co-pays, coverage caps, and exclusions that rendered the policies worthless. Those policies were just a ticket to get in the door at the hospitals and clinics that 'announced' the ticket holder as having money to burn. Owning one of those polices basically stated that you had insurance coverage that would actually pay for very little, however you could afford to pay the bill out-of-pocket, because you had money to pay a premium for worthless paper each month.

It is regrettable that you have been notified that you have been paying for a sub-standard Health Insurance product. I sincerely hope that you will go to the Health Insurance Exchange and find a policy that meets the minimum standards set by the ACA at an affordable price.

President Obama apologized for this unintended consequence. Health Insurance is still purchased on a free market exchange. The policies provided on these exchanges are regulated to meet minimum coverage standards. The President has no control over what measures the Health Insurance Executives take to continue to express their opposition to actually having to pay your health care expenses, rather than counting your monthly premium payment as pure profit.

The Health Insurance Executives could have upgraded your policy to meet minimum standards at no additional charge, but they didn't. The Health Insurance Executives chose to send you a cancellation letter instead.

I also need help and advice on what to do.

I worked as a senior manager in telecom and lost my job in 2012. Fortunately, I received a lump sum payment that kept my family going and the benefits of that runs out this month. We now have a family business and need to pick up health insurance fast.

I see many plans on the healthinsurance.org site and if I choose any of those plans in 2013, the rate appears to be locked in for 1 year BUT if I pick any plan starting in 2014, the prices seem astronomical.

Not sure what the heck to do, pick in 2013 and suck it up or apply for subsidies. Our business only currently brings in 2/3 of what I earned in corporate.

Long-Term Disability has previously been provided by the company for benefit-eligible employees at 100% cost to the company. Although it is being eliminated, you will now have the option to purchase Long-Term Disability at your discretion and at your cost (exactly as you do with Supplemental Life and the Colonial offerings).

This worries me more than anything I have read on this thread so far.
Myself living in Canada have been collecting LTD for the past 20 years, If they took that away it is game over for us.

Can the poster above or someone else from the states explain this in a bit more detail?

It won't effect me or the wife but I have a soft spot for people on LTD.

I haven't said anything about 'good' or 'bad', I believe. But I do agree that it would be great if workers owned the means of production (again).


The only difference between liberalism/neoliberalism and conservatism/neoconservatism is that the first has a huge welfare state attached to the capitalist economy. It is supposed to be a crutch for people that need it, not for the lazy who dont want to get a job!


I haven't met many 'lazy' people in my life. I have met plenty untalented, ill or old people.
