Child trafficking is a huge problem, a social ill that is now global.

This little dolly was discovered travelling with Roma (Gypsy/Traveller) 'parents' in Greece - whom she clearly did not resemble (the pic shows her as having a "grown out" dye job on her hair - notice the braids are dark, dark brown - that looks to have been done about 6-months to a year previously).

They have taken her from that couple, and now are hunting for her parents.

I didn't see this posted yet via "search", so I'm doing my part to get her story out there.
It's not little Lisa Irwin, which was my first thought - this girl is 4, and Lisa would be only just turned 3.

Isn't she darling?

The two people posing as her parents have been arrested and face charges of abducting a minor, as well as counts of falsifying identity documents, said the state-owned Athens-Macedonian News Agency.
Among the suspect documents found by police was a 2009 birth and baptism registration from Athens authorities, the news agency said.
The 40-year-old woman also had two different valid identification documents and, based on family registration records, appears to have given birth to three children between June and November 1993, and another three children between October 1994 and February 1995, it said. The 39-year-old man is registered as the father of four more children.
Greece's government has promised to help the child. In the meantime, the little girl is being given support by a police psychologist, the police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the European Hotline for Missing Children or contact The Smile of the Child.

Any ideas, ATS?

Yes, the article says it will obviously suggest child trafficking - and add to the stigma already existing against Roma people, so we must be sensitive to that -

it's about finding her parents (if they are alive), not condemning the Roma.

But obviously the question must be asked - how did this happen?

Poor little thing. So sad.
They obviously were not taking good care of her. Her face is dirty and her hands are filthy, a good way for a child to get sick. I hope they find her parents and the parents are worthy of such a precious child.

I was hoping it would turn out to be little Madeleine McCann, alas she's too young.

Hope she now gets a chance at a better life!

I can think of any number of possibilities. Actually, several years ago I was approached by a Mexican Immigrant couple who'd had a child here in the USA (making the child a citizen). They wanted to take their child, then 3, back to Mexico to meet the extended family, so I took them to the Post Office and we got the child a passport - legally, formally - no problem at all.

The problem was how to get the child BACK into the USA when they returned - they were undocumented, and were coming via "underground" means - but didn't want to subject their darling to the dangers of that - so, they asked me if I would "escort the child." They wanted to fly me to their home state in Mexico, all expenses paid (this child and I had a bond due to my having been a helper with parenting, in a social work setting, and the child trusted me inherently - so did they, but I've wondered since if they were simply "using" me - I know it happens).

In the end I had to decline, though it broke my heart to do so - I'd have done it in a heartbeat, but my husband convinced me I'd NEVER get out of customs with that child - clearly I was not the mother. Even if I had papers naming me as a legal guardian, I'd be questioned. It would be dangerous, for me, and for all of them. So, I didn't.

On the other hand - I wrote a story some years ago about a "roma" child whose entire family had died in a horrible fire; leaving her an orphan.

WHO KNOWS??? Maybe they found her on the street somewhere. It will be interesting if we get a resolution to it.
Poor kid. She certainly doesn't look "mistreated", though, so that's good. Confused, yes, but - healthy.

I read your post after I made mine....

I think she does look pretty healthy - 4-year olds get grimy very fast. LOL. Having a dirty face and hands is a FAR CRY from starvation, abuse, and neglect. Dirt washes off. Scars don't.

Isn't there a huge database of "Missing Children" that is international?

I wonder how hi-tech they'll be in trying to match her up with possible abduction victims - it also really scares me that newborns are "disappearing" from hospitals, their parents told the child was "stillborn." Then they are sold. A story not long ago had a doctor and some nurses convicted of it, IIRC.

That could be one possibility as well.

Her hands aren't dirty; that's ink from fingerprinting.

I did a double-take and damn near fell out of my chair. This little girl is a 100% dead ringer for the daughter of a friend of mine. If it wasn't for the age gap (this girl being 4 & my friend's girl 6) I would be convinced it was her.
And they're not Eastern European, they're Irish to the bone. This poor girl could have literally come from anywhere, Scandinavia, UK, Baltics, Russia, east Europe, perhaps another continent entirely

yes, I thought it looked like ink as well.

I still say she looks healthy - her hair appears clean (though bed-headed), and she's not emaciated.

Is there any chance your friend had another child 2 years later, who "disappeared" or was "stillborn"? Or even "put up for adoption"?

Yes, she looks like she could be North American as well - LOTS of little blue-eyed blondies in the Americas. LOTS of them.

Not a chance, she had her second child in 2009, the same year this girl was born. She & her husband lost their first to stillbirth, they'd never voluntarily give a child up after that experience.

Edit to quickly clarify: She's had 3 children. The first was stillborn, the second is the girl this one looks like. The third is a boy.

She looks clean to me. I'm not so sure that isn't fingerprint ink on her hands. Wouldn't they take her prints to help identify? Also they'd likely clean her up for a picture, she looks pretty clean and healthy to me.

The news I saw today said they had found alot of fake birth certificates and the scene of the raid-That could mean they have stumbled upon the tip of the iceberg.
Sicko's,hope they all get caught.

Hi Wildtimes, there must be some flaw in humans that makes them want to abduct and then control children/adults/animals?

Is it just about power?

Hope you do not take offense, but describing her as " This little dolly " sounds a bit wrong, and could lead to others thinking the the wrong thing, she is a young girl or child, not a "dolly", that is what children play with and have there own power over.

With the expansion of world communications, what is OK in one country may not be so understood in another. One these days has to be so careful of the words they use and how they use them.

OK rant over and back to the point of this post. It would sure be good if someone in the ATS community did recognise her, and your posting will certainly broaden the chances of success.

Some time back, in the search for Madeline there was a sighting of a blond girl on a plane, could this be her? It makes you wonder how many children do go missing and how a child would even know if somebody was looking for them or who to talk to.

I hope that when her real parents are found they turn out to be good and distraught parents.

VERY good point.
It is a vernacular for "darling" where I live.

Thanks for pointing that out!!
:thumb up:

DRAT! Too late to edit it....
for readers: I DO NOT mean to imply anything but "sweet little girl" - not a plaything, or object. Thanks to dowot for pointing out my faux pas.

Could you give us a link?
Thanks. I hope they get caught, too - unless it was a "mercy adoption" of an orphan lost somewhere - but we need more information.

For exampe, does she speak? Can she read? If so, what language?

I'm not sure why anyone thinks she looks well and healthy. What's with the scratches or bruises on her wrists? And she has some marks on her face. Kids get injuries all the time but I see marks that shouldn't be there.

The couple had registered different numbers of children with different regional family registries.

The woman claimed to have given birth to six children within a 10-month period.

www.bbc.co.uk...

Other articles say she (the girl) only speaks Roma, but can understand Greek.
I've been reading as many articles as I can find to try to get a better picture of this whole ordeal. To be blunt, this reeks of child trafficking. The couple claimed to have 14 children that the woman gave birth to, whereas one article cited, they really only have 4 biological children. Forged documents for 6 children being born to her in a 10 month span is a big, giant honking red flag.
