you know....it can be said that the democrats are just as responsible for the shutdown as the republicans....they're both equally at fault, as far as i'm concerned...

the simple fact of the matter is that they didn't want this lousy individual mandate nonsense going into effect, they tried to block it, the democrats refused to hammer out a mutually acceptable arrangement, and so the budget did not get passed....and the government shut down..

it really makes you wonder why giving the insurance industry a massive handout is SO important to the democrats, that they would not be willing to defer it by a year...

you're not really pointing out facts, so much as stating your opinion, and then dressing it up as fact..

Just another MEDIUM for the Zionist World Order mocking Americans who SACRIFICIED for the same Banking Elite who started all the World Wars and the present conditions of global economic and conflict disasters. You think they'll keep their promise to give him refuge in the bunkers?? Nahhhhhh he didn't read the fine print that his ratings have to be good.

Hero Worship ?

I have had family members die so you can sit at your computer and insult them.

Nobody said this generation was perfect. Nobody is asking for a free pass.

Maybe just the tiniest bit of respect is due. You are free to continue to insult them.

They made damn sure of that.

Did your family members die in the Civil War or the Revolutionary War?

Because those are the only wars where someone died for my freedom. If not in those wars, then they just died to further the empires interest.

Again, I don't worship anyone, and I'm not going to pull punches. I'm sure you will be offended by this, but your family member didn't die for my freedom...they died for profit.

lol, you're funny....

how exactly did the civil war ensure our freedom?

if you don't think fighting the axis in WWII was for our freedom, you're either delusional, or just weren't paying attention in class....read some books..

I don't really understand why the ww2 vets are rolling out to visit the memorials in such numbers now while they're shut down? People are trying to use the vets as political tools and they're playing along. I just don't like the exploitation, it's ugly and the reason for it seems pointless.

Everything about the shut down is ridiculous. I prefer to avoid the closed places and not let them see me sweat - not let them see it get under my skin. Indifference to their games is a more appropriate response. The vets wheeling past barricades into the memorials is desperate and embarrassing.

this all actually started with an honor flight...group of vets who had planned the trip months in advance, and just had the bad luck of having their visit coincide with the shutdown...they didn't go there because of the shutdown, and didn't go to start trouble....

subsequent trips by other groups may have had the added benefit of sticking it to the idiots in the government, but i doubt that was the entire purpose of the other visitors..

These vets stormed the beaches of Normandy, withstood a sneak attack at Pearl Harbor and endured the Bataan Death March. So they can take what Obama has to offer, they're used to dealing with guys like him.
If they want to see the memorial, all they have to do is pretend to be illegals. Obama will escort them personally.

Maybe I should re-title the thread:

Bill MAher sucked as a stand up comedian, now he just sucks. He does what most do when they have no talent, say shocking things then sit back and collect the check, or go on the book tour. I would'nt walk across the street to pee in his mouth if his throat was on fire. He disgusts me 100%.

posing with Michele Bachmann, they disrespected themselves...what next, Michele Bachmann cuts off their VA benefits and they give her a hug and a kiss for that, too?.....bill maher pisses off right-wing Christian conservatives, which is fine by me

Again, I am going to explain my father's generation. If my father were still alive and I was wheeling him around the DC memorials and Michele Bachman walked up to him and asked for a photo he would be too polite to refuse. If Obama walked up and asked for a photo with him, he would be too polite to refuse. For the politicians, it is a photo op. No doubt about that. For the vets, I would imagine it is more about politeness. Consider the fact that Democrat politicians were also reported to be there. I'm sure they got their share of pictures taken with vets. The vets were being polite, in my opinion. I base my opinion on knowing my father and also knowing many people of his generation. Would you rather have seen the vets being rude? They didn't disrespect themselves. The politicians showed disrespect to them by making it a photo op and the vets were just to polite to point that out.

LOL.

WWII was the beginning of our Empire and Military Industrial Complex...it wasn't done for freedom. Germany was not a threat to us, we could have dealt with Japan and still been fine. Russia would have eventually taken care of Germany, we went in for the profit, power, and influence

I'm not a blind patriotic zombie...like some.

There you go again, Alien. If it weren't for posts like yours, I would probably still be a nameless lurker. I don't think anyone would accuse you of being patriotic. But blind zombies come in 31 flavors.

Like so many modern Americans, you have bought into the biased, incomplete historical narrative that is being taught in public schools. In this narrative, negative aspects of American history are emphasized, while the unique beauty and triumphs of American heritage are glossed over.

Yes, the military-industrial complex was born out of the industrial efforts of WWII. Yes, Eisenhower warned of the potential for an economy driven by war. And yes, to some extent the industry surrounding the DoD has grown beyond acceptable proportions. I would argue that this is a direct result of our ever-expanding Federal government, for defense is hardly the only area in which we overspend. Regardless, the military-industrial complex was not composed of the soldiers who today wish to visit their own monument, so your entire position on this thread is nonsensical.

Since I am fond of beating dead horses, I will also point out that your understanding of WWII is unsurprisingly poor. It would serve you (and your fellow Americans) well to watch Ken Burns' documentary series on the war. At least devote the ~10 hours to educating yourself on the greatest conlfict in modern history.
Aside from the fact that Germany, without question, would have eventually declared war on the US, it would not have been in our best interest (or the world's...and aren't you progressives supposed to care about global welfare?) to allow Hitler to conquer everyone else. Beyond that, German u-boats were already attacking US ships unofficially. There is a wealth of evidence indicating that Hitler's ultimate goal was the world, and he would not stop until he took it all...even Japan. Learn some of these things for yourself and you may see that your claims regarding Japan and Russia are simply wrong.

Before you post a reply with no substance and asking for links to prove my points, let me say this: It is every man's responsibility to educate himself, for a man can only trust his own determinations. I took in a tremendous amount of information to arrive at my conclusions. You and Maher owe it to every American veteran to do the same before you go demeaning their efforts.

Please do not think that I am picking on you because you are special. It is because your ideaology is frustratingly prevalent that I am compelled to rebuke your posts.

Actually the Germans bombed the living hell out of my mother's and grandparents town. My father was fighting for his life in the Pacific against the Japanese who just signed a treaty with Germany.

The version of WWII I learned in public school was the flag waving America is the awesomest that everyone else learns...and it appears that you still subscribe to.

I'm not saying that entering WWII was wrong, I'm just saying that it wasn't to protect Americans freedoms. If you truly believe that, then you are a bit blind.

But since you think WWII was about American freedoms (talk about American arrogance, huh)...then please explain which of our freedoms were in direct jeopardy that forced us to enter WWII?

You want to bash someone for showing respect and say they are arrogant?????

Well let's talk about YOUR arrogance!!

You come on ATS on a daily basis to support a POTUS whom has done nothing but crap on the Constitution and you defend him as a keyboard warrior!

Let me ask you something. When was the last time you even inadvertently sacrificed anything????

The freedom you have to act as ignorantly as you are was because of people you seem to have pleasure bashing and making fun of!!!!

What has Obama done as far as sacrificing his life to serve this county?????? Go ahead, answer please! What have you done? Ever served your country???? (Banging on a keyboard trying to show your intellectual superiority doesn't count!)

I dare you to walk up on the doorstep of a family whom lost their mother or father and say what you are saying on ATS to their face! Go ahead DO IT!!!!! I just hope 911 is to damn busy to help your ass out when you call for help!

Michele Bachmann what was she doing there? The whole thing sounded like it was a made for tv event any way. How did the MSM know that a couple of senators were going to be there talk, about propaganda.

As for his cheap shot about those vets was overboard and insulting, in a context that this was not a stage event.
And what a perfect place to play a staged event. WW2 vets are true heroes, but I as any other reader on this board would do if anybody invaded us the lines to join up would be as long now as they were than.

Cheap shots and propaganda abound on all sides.
I don't care any more. I have gotten old enough to learn it's not what people say it's what they do.
