I'm a big fan of psychological thrillers too, they really make an impact on your way of thinking for years to come. However, I like the whimsical scifi movies the most... stuff like Star Wars, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, etc
Anyways, here's some that aren't mentioned all that often but you would probably enjoy for their psychological plots and twists:
Equilibrium
Dark City
Children of Men
The Mist
The Forgotten
Sunshine
Timecrimes
Immortel

I really liked District 9...
Let me think of more movies ,but TV series....most are foreign. There's tons of funky Japanese sci fi.
Farscape
The Mighty Boosh (some of it is sci fi ish)
Red Dwarf
Gantz
Ancient Dogoo Girl (the guys will love this one)
20th Century Boy
Thanks I will look out for some of those Japanese films.
I have seen all the seasons of Red Dwarf. It is great comedy and very warm feeling, too.
