Google the term, "We don't need to stinking badges". It is a popular saying here in the States.

Not a bad idea overall though.

I still want to trade my points in for a exclusive ATS hat.

Just for you SAP.......

How many points would this be worthy of???

"Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinkin' badges!"

Alfonso Bedoya as Gold Hat in The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre

That is the origin.

Thats not true as I see it Beezer.

You pipe up in one thread and offend a whole group of "friends" and no matter if you find the arc of the covenant and post pictures, they wont star or flag you.

Not that S and F is important, but I think it makes more people try harder.

Just my opinion of course.

EDIT: In so far as Rodinus is concerned. I find him funny and respectful, he puts a good spin on most things, even when they are nasty in nature, and when I see him, I star him, sometimes I don't even read what he is responding to, I just star him because I like him as a poster here.

Spank me.

But OP, with respect, I just looked up your profile, your posts, your threads, your ATS points, your applauses.

Recognition comes from reading what one writes and determining merit not on past performances and points and baubles, but on constant solid contribution.

Just my humble opinion.

That is a good point you brought up. It is a bit of a popularity contest isn't it? I know when I run across a Phage post I always star it, whether I read it or not. I am glad to say I don't do that with any one else, but still, I'm sure you and I aren't the only ones that do this of course.

I wonder how many people have been on ATS since 2008 and know as little about how it works than myself.
1) I don't know how to copy and paste a sentence from someone's post, answer it in mine, and repeat. NOPE all I know how to do is get the entire quote which could be 4,000 characters long, or just reply and hope I remembered the important parts.
2) I don't know what the "W" or the letter next to it stands for under our Avatars.

I should just be a lurker....but I have such a compulsion to fight ignorance when I see it...I don't seek opportunities because it is mostly frustrating and futile. I'm not going to have people saying, "oh, yeah, cool, thanks, I really was clueless wasn't I. How was I surviving in this world without your wisdom?" (actually I might hear that one of these days and to insure the insult add *sarcasm* at the end of it)

You only get flags for threads you start correct? So yep, stars and flags aren't important to me.
But if there was a way to earn a golf shirt or coffee mug......I would be awfully tempted to achieve.

I've been hoping that eventually my stars will get above my posts. Because I don't always tell others what they want to hear, that makes it very hard. To me this site is about the members helping each other to be aware of what is going on. I learn a lot about how others perceive reality here, this is reward enough for me.

You should name it Giorgio, after your avatar.
