Bloomberg is A Waste Of Oxygen Now He Wants To Hide Cigarettes

usnews.nbcnews.com...
If New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg gets his way, stores won't be able to publicly display tobacco products and will have to keep cigarettes under the counter or behind curtains.

The legislation announced Monday is the latest public-health crackdown by the mayor, whose ban on super-sized sugary soft drinks was shot down by a judge last week.

The proposed law would "prohibit display of tobacco products" in most retail shops, Bloomberg said. "Such displays suggest smoking is a normal activity and invite young people to experiment with tobacco."

After his latest Failed attempt to ban sugary drinks Mayor Bloomberg has decided to change gears. This time he is looking to financially devastate smalls businesses by requiring them to hide their cigarettes. Hide their cigarettes ? What the hell is with that? Well, he believes that since it is a bad influence on children, ALL Cigarettes should be hidden out of sight so that children will not be influenced.

The 'ol boy is an absolute idiot. He has no foresight what so ever. As with the drink ban that was overturned last week. Surely a man with so much money might have the slightest inkling that making that kind of change in a business will cost money.

AND, what about the advertisers? Well, they will just have to suck it up and drive on. Have you ever been inside an establishment that sells cigarettes and there is NO advertising. I doubt it. It's how they push new products.

It appears as though he trying to create policy to his liking with out even considering the consequences.

The mayor may have a HUGE wallet, and may be a nice guy. BUT, he is EXTREMELY Lax on Brains.

He should stop trying to create new policy and start doing the things that a mayor does like improving the local economy, concentrate funds on police, fire, and rescue services, as well hold town hall meetings to find out what the people believe needs attention.

On a small personal note, .. I believe that this new policy will be shot down in flames just like the soda ban.

Although I am quite a heavy smoker, on and off, but currently on around a pack of red ones a day, I support such idea.

Cigarettes is a product that has no practical value to the society, there are no psitive effects to smoking, only negative.. When I started smoking I was young and stupid. Although quitting is not easy. Have tried to quit for quite some time already although always went back after couple of months.

The government here is planning on losing all the cigarette and alcohol commercials, moving the cigarettes behind the cound and putting some disgusting pictures on the packs- pretty strong punch on the cigarette companies here. Who cares whether it is money or not, some things are not simply right. The promotion of cigarettes and ads on every corner and I am sure they influence lots of us, especially younger ones, who often tend to be more "gullible" and do not have much life experience.

Most smokers I know started at around same age as I do 15-16 and have yet to quit.

Although I am smoker, this is habit something I suggest to no one. Really one of the most pointless habits: takes money, ruins health and really nasty to get rid of. The guy is not suggesting losing the cigarettes, simply hiding them. Who wants gets them anyways, although less people would start smoking and that is positive effect.

I hope sooner or later the cigarette industry dies. Every year the amount of smokers decreases and the overall campaign against it is working well. Every time when the tax is raised on cigarettes, I am honestly happy about it. At least some people quit because of it

Hopefully gonna quit it too sooner or later and this time for real

They do that here in Australia. They’re either hidden behind a curtain, in a cupboard or in shelves. I see no problem with it. People who already smoke still do it. It’s their choice to harm their bodies with that poison. But frankly, if you decide whether or not you’re going to smoke based on whether the packs are in plain sight or hidden then you’re an idiot. I don’t see how it would have any bearing on general life in any way? Anything that may help curb smoking is a good thing. Not much worse than being near a smoker and breathing in that awful stuff. Likewise standing near a heavy smoker and just smelling the cigarette smell on their clothes and breath. They aren’t really infringing on your person rights to smoke if you wish. Have you guys banned smoking in pubs/bars and outdoor dining areas?

What I don’t agree with is that this guy appears to have so much power in his city. I thought laws and things like that were up to the Government to make and not the mayor? I think the mayor’s role is an ambassador and to ensure the city is running as it should; small fixes to traffic issues, keeping the place clean and tidy and whatever else. Not making laws. And bylaws are a joke. It wasn’t long ago that the Bass Council here (includes coastal areas like Phillip Island, Kilcunda and Wonthaggi) had a bylaw banning people from setting up tents on their own land, like in the backyard for the kids or if they have a number of friends over and don’t have enough room in the house for everyone to sleep.

Basically, I see no problem with this. If he wanted to include alcohol in the deal then that’s a different matter..

That is a creative way to fight fire with fire.

I will maintain that information for possible future reference.

I highly suspect that we may very well see the end of the cigarette.

BUT WAIT ! ! !

There will STILL be cigarettes.

In the same way that there is STILL ANYTHING Available on the Black Market.

Well, The black market will always be there, but most people would still quit it. Some % would use the black market, but most dont bother.. I would not even mind when lighter drugs like cannabis or cigarettes exist, although I believe they should not be held in visible places. The best solution in my opinion, would be banning absolutely every commercial or ad about such products, everywhere, and holding them basically behind the curtain in stores, so that the only way of buying a pack is by asking the salesperson for it (before it not even knowing whether the store sells them or not) and if the store sells them you get it, easy.

Um,.. . Well,. . . On the lighter side of that. ... When you exhale cigarette smoke you are also exhaling Carbon Dioxide WHICH is Highly Beneficial to ALL Plant Life.

Hell, I guess you could consider cigarettes a "GREEN" Technology.
