Yes, you could go to jail .. but am i seeing a bone being thrown here

A disputed wiki article talking about exactly the same thing i just wrote, really?
If you have political tendencies in Venezuela, trying to bring down a perfectly good functioning socialist industrial model - yep, i'd say you deserve to go to jail.

do a search and you will see many threads claiming chavez has died over the last few years.

it seems that the CIA, sorry, certain elements of the media are trying to unsettle the general population over there.

Any members posting from Caracas on a computer, with the ability to post in English, probably arnt the best people to ask about the improvements to life in Venezuela. Maybe find out about the millions who have been brought out of dire poverty, who now have access to housing, healthcare, education and subsidised food. I'm sure they are not complaining.

Why should the resources of Venezuela not benefit the poor? Why should they be sold off to capitalist multinationals, who by their very nature care little for a nations people.

If he isn't dead (and it's looking questionable, indeed), he's certainly ill with terminal cancer and his time is limited to an extreme. His own information releases confirm that. I miss how this would have come as a major shock if it has happened? It's not as if it's at all unexpected, given the medical issues for a number of years. nothing even negative in saying this. It's just something that's been a question of time, given his diagnosis.

@Woodwardjnr

Hmmm.... I wouldn't say life has been THAT enjoyable. Double digit inflation rates don't make for good living standards to anyone, at any economic level. They had more problems than that though and this article is January, 2013.

CARACAS—Venezuela's consumer prices surged in December at the fastest pace in nearly three years as the oil-rich South American country grappled with severe shortages of consumer goods, the central bank reported Friday.

Low domestic production of food products and other goods has left Venezuela dependent on imports and prone to chronically high inflation. But tight currency regulations have resulted in a scarcity of dollars in Venezuela, leaving many importers with insufficient hard currency to buy goods from abroad.

Venezuela Inflation Jumps Sharply as Shortages Rise

The pure facts of economics and life in Venezuela just don't support the picture some are painting here.

Oh believe me when i say, you have no idea.

We (about 10 million of us) were saved by the Americas in 1990's from the great oppression and depression called socialism. I really do understand the different levels of freedom, much more than you ever could.
You brought us democracy, capitalism, consumerism, choice and freedom but our life standard has gone down, people are jobless, in debt, hungry and miserable. About 7 million people today pray to get back the not so free days. Not 'so free' but happy and careless.

edit ...because nothings proves a point better than a meme.

This man died in 1980 and he is on the wiki list of top10 dictators of all time.
This meme is from 2012.
Caption says ''Comrade come back, all of us love you. You stole and gave to us...now They steal but give nothing !! ''

Wow, this is a prime example of how the msm has most of you so brainwashed its not even funny anymore. Forget everything you think you know about this man. He was a pioneer and a great man an his people loved and adored him...

If you say no way I will tell you look up some fairly recent history from a few years ago where the CIA stage a coup in Venezuela during elections to try and put a new president (one of their U.N. puppets)in office even though Chavez won majority vote by about three times as much and had Hugo wrongfully accused and thrown in jail with no proof or evidence of any wrong doing.

needless to say Chavez didn't spend more than six hours locked up because about a couple million people hit the streets protesting and got into firefights in the middle of broad daylight with authorities resposible. The new president had to leave office the same day.

Us policy has historically been to bully everyone with anything worth having ,you call Chavez a dictator why? His people vote him in every year and he can ride anywhere in his jeep with the top down with no security detail, also Venezuelan people are allowed to own firearms.(thought would throw that jab in there too)

Bottom line US villianized him because he did not want to sell oil to us. In what rule book does it say that every country has to be a US lap dog.
Hugo Chavez was a proud man doing the work his people wanted him to do.
BTW I am Cuban/american and proud of my heritage. I have no political preference and listen to all sides and options. I believe in freedom liberty for all and Venezuelan people at the very least got to say they had both during Chavez' reign as president.

I have yet to meet a Venezuelan who likes the guy. Then again, I haven't met every single Venezuelan. Still, out of the handful of Venezuelans I call mi familia, not a one of them likes Hugo Chavez. In fact, they see him as the egomaniac who destroyed their country.

This is going to send ripples through the international community.

There are a lot of oil rights at stake, and a lot of countries that will be looking to create new influences where they otherwise could not do so before when Chavez was in power.

I'm sure that this is already in the works for many months now, but it's going to really kick in to high gear.

Let's see how the chips fall and how many more central banks pop up.

~Namaste

Not sad to see this leftist go, but it is a bad time.
If a person who actually cared for this country was in charge, they could use this to our advantage.
No such luck tho, will probably send a wreath.
And yet another excuse to raise gas prices

How does elected leader equal dictator?

Looked at the news lately?
Or, ever heard of the term "executive order"?
Or, "I don't have to listen to Congress, I work for the UN"?

I'll make an exception just this once. I think I'll buy myself some take out on the way home as a little treat for the occasion.

(Yeah...I really disliked him and what he did to Venezuela THAT much) Lets hope his replacement isn't worse.

He's one of the very few who never allowed the economic hitmen of the USA to either buy him off, or kill him, and some of his efforts were very good for the people of Venezuela don't just go with what the propaganda tells you, not that he was all-good either, but in the grand scheme of things he served the best interests of his country and fellow countrymen very well.

There are a number of people using the "He didn't like America, so he must have been okay" argument.

To that I really have to say, more harm has come from the "Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend" than most would like to admit or consider.

Not least of which, the whole support for the Afghan Mujaheddin in the 1980's because, hey, they were the enemy of the Soviet Union, so it was only logical to support them. That ended well...eh? If only we could re-live some key decision points.

Simply because Chavez disliked the US as much as some around here do, hardly makes him good or bad in how he treated his own people. Many OTHER factors address that part, but 'enemy of my enemy.....' logic is just foolish and also dangerous in where it too often leads, IMO.

Gee who would have thought there would be shortages of consumer goods in a Socialist Utopia? Come to think of it, didn't that happen in Communist Russia too?

Anyway, WND carried an article speculating on his imminent death a while back...

Some people in the USA hated it when Chavez and CITGO got together to provide free heating oil to poor Americans. I guess they expected them to freeze when the US government turned their back on them.

Chavez elected by landslides 4 times in a row, loved by the people. Resisted a USA led coup attempt. That's why people in the US don't like him.

Hmm... I find the chatter and assumption that Hugo Chavez was a dictator somewhat ammusing. Let me point out some inadequacies in that idea.

First of all, he was elected by the people. Since in any democratic society, the will of the people ought to be paramount, this is a crucial aspect for any leader who wishes to remain not just in power, but in true favour amongst the people as well. Not only was he elected once, but has actually won FOUR elections for president in his political career. This is not a mark of a dictator. Dictators do not offer choice. They offer you the chance to comply, or perish. That is not the way that Hugo Chavez has run his government nor the country it administrates.

Further more, I hear alot of blabber about his constitutional reform. The changes he made to the maximum term length of the president were in response to the request of people in his nation, voters that is, who wanted to be reassured that if the people desired it to be so, that he COULD be re-elected ad infinitum. His last election victory was taken at a percentage of fifty four percent or there abouts, after an election which saw eighty one percent turn out.

Now, that may not be a massive margin, but he was calling for dialogue with the opposition right after that election, making clear his intention to work with ALL his people, to ensure a goverment that responds to thier needs as best it can, for the benifit of all, which is, when properly managed, what socialism is all about. Hugo Chavez's entire political career, has been geared toward giving the people the power to change thier government if they should wish to, but also gave them the option to re-elect good presidents on the basis of performance and public approval, and that is what has come about. He has been therefore, very successful.

One of the things that is rife amongst the politics of more internationally respected and powerful governments on this planet, is general dissatisfaction, with the electoral methods, candidates, parties, and powerblocks that make up the structure of a given nations politics. Hugo Chavez and his party, have tried to address those issues within thier own nation, have handed the people the power to choose presidents that will do thier bidding, instead of trying to tell people what to do.

While you , and perhaps I might not agree with everything he and his party has done, one cannot deny that he has achieved a great deal in his nation, and has met with the approval of far more people in his country, than our government in the UK has recieved in my lifetime. I think that makes him not just a success, but a person for whom one might carry some measure of respect, without any shame what so ever.

Omg. That is the article in the second post made by the OP.

I am beginning to think no one reads anything.

The picture was proven a Hoax. It is a photoshopped stll from The Lost, which I posted about with a link to the original, on page 6.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Here is the original pic, that was shopped to look like Hugo.

Here is the link from CNN, that originally broke the story, backpeddaling.

Update 10:40 p.m.: Indeed, not even the company
that reported the news can stand behind it. CNN's
international PR team tweets, "CNN cannot
confirm reports of Hugo Chavez's death."
