How does elected leader equal dictator?

When you trash the constitution and make yourself leader for life...that's how...
Hitler was appointed by elected officials..how'd that work out?

Good riddance to bad rubbish....if it's true, there still seems to be some doubt, but that's likely just to avoid a revolution or violence.

Coincidentally, I've just been playing a video game called Mercenaries 2, which is set in Venezuela and where the player is tasked with essentially blowing the place up!

Lots of those games train the next generation of armed forces recruits, getting them psychologically ready to kill "the enemy" without knowing anything about them. I saw one a few weeks ago that tasked the guy with the gun (the player ego) to burn specific fields of plants. Training starts early these days, with better machines than they had in the past.

I starred your post to give you 8,000 stars, congrats! (EDIT:Although you are a long timer who'd have tens of thousands of stars if they were counted then. Nonetheless, I wonder how many people have stuck around and shared so much with others on this site. Thanks.) I thought he just removed term limits to the presidency, and still had to run for office. Have to disagree about the bad rubbish part, a majority of the people in his nation not only like him but love him for what he's done. A man of the people has lots of enemies, you can call them "some other people" I guess.

I was livng there for 4 years and I can tell you it is worse than that. I left that place and was glad.
The elite there look only for themself. So we had often no watersservice no electric power etc.
The gas prices where so cheap. But you have to spend a lot of money to repair your car after driving
on all those big holes you find on the street.

Crime is the worst thing there ever.

No place is perfect, bro. I'm happy you're happy, but you sound like an elite yourself. There are a lot of homes in the USA without water and power. And it also costs a lot to fix your vehicle, many people don't have vehicles. Crime is bad in the USA too. So, I don't think you can blame that on Chavez.

The facts are that in Venezuela the lives of the vast majority of the poorest people are much improved.

Seriously? Some doubt? The story originated from an outpost, CNN Chile.

CNN Public Relations tweeted they cannot verify their own reporters' story.

I can tell you right now, in Corporate America, you only call out the PR people when one of your employees messes up. They are the proverbial Cleaners. That reporter will not be allowed to speak, write, or answer any questions on the matter, and anyone with inquiries will be directed to the CNN PR Department.

Upon reaching them, you will be told, "We cannot confirm nor deny this story." or, "No comment."

Try it.

CNN.com has a contact us number and email on their website. Be the guy on the street, come on!

us.cnn.com...

There is the contact us link, has about ten ways you can contact them, including that twitter link.

People will believe you or SO before anybody.

Chavez changed the Constitution only to allow him to continue running in elections indefinitely. Not that he was to be the leader until he dies. Elections still are to be held. Elections that have been certified to be free and fair by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Carter Center.

Similar to here In Canada where Prime Minister can be elected indefinitely as long as he is the leader of the party that receives the most seats in the House of Commons.

Gazrok, as a mod you should know better than to post BS.

Of course the Capitalists from Venezuela hate him, the same way the Confederates hated the Union in the US during and after the Civil War (maybe even to this day). Americans truly have no idea the struggle between freedom and colonialism that exists in '3rd world nations'. It is natural for the profiteers to hate that which cuts into or cuts off their profits. Is Chavez perfect? No. Did the Barrios become paradise? No. But the poor people now have a voice that they didn't have before, they are climbing out of poverty, they are now literate and being educated, they eat and they earn income. Natural resources being used to benefit the people that live above them and work to harvest them... what a concept.

I only hope the person that comes behind Chavez when the time comes, follows in his footsteps and even then I don't know that anyone will be able to maintain what Chavez has done for the people. He is truly one of kind and the world will be worse off without him.

No I am no elite. I have been midleclass all my life. And I dont see the deal in giving the poor a voice and make the midleclass as poor as never before. You can educate the poor and give oportunities. But making a second Zimbawe out of your country I think you would also disagree.

The middle class folks you mention who have fallen on hard times... I wonder if you know how hard those times are. I would wager that they are STILL better off than those who had NOTHING under previous leaders, those who are only just getting an education, those who are only just learning thier rights under the law, and how to work themselves out of hardship.

I would wager that the middle classes are taking a kicking, but only measured against other middle class folks. I very much doubt they have gone immediately from comfortable existences straight onto the street.

I saw a television show where a member of parliament here in Britain was sent to live for a month, on government benifits. I should explain that this man was AFFLUENT with a capital A. Living on something like seventy pounds per fortnight, he was utterly unable to fathom how anyone does it, let alone the numbers of people we have in our nation who live that bloody nightmare. The effect of such a decline in ready money might be shocking, but it is not harmful. It is GOOD for people to realise how weak thier pocket books make them, good that they be forced to rely on thier wits and skills a little more every now and again. Chances are, if thier previous affluence was as a result of hard work, and quick wits, then they will regain what they percieve they have lost. If it was through any other, less worthy means, then maybe they wont, and maybe... maybe they dont deserve to? Just a thought.

Hugo Chavez death reports wrong, says vice-president

The claims have been dismissed by Nicolas Maduro, the Venezuelan vice president, who said Mr Chavez has been running the country from his hospital ward in Caracas.

www.telegraph.co.uk...

The Vice-President could be lying, but I call hoax.

I read this thread last night, SnF OP by the way, why isn't this on the MSM yet? I am so thankful for ATS members and their hunger for any and all information because I believe this would be unknown. When I first heard Chavez was battling cancer and then saw him in his few appearances, I had a feeling it wasn't good. I can only hope that his reality shifted from Ego to humanitarian.

WHY?

Because it's a rumor, not a hoax. Chavez will eventually die, but no-one will ever know for sure exactly when or why. Consider this thread to be the first in what I am sure will become a great wave of ATS conspiracy threads: The Truth Behind Chavez's Death/Assassination And/Or The Faking Thereof. Get the popcorn ready.

They don't like him because, they want their US corporations to still be able to rape and pillage whenever and wherever they want. That way they can continue to buy products subsidized by the blood of the poor.

Threads with posts like those shown here make me so sad that there are so many US members displaying such ignorance and hypocrisy. If you can't 'wake up' these ATS members what chance do we really have?
