I'm 19 years old and I am apart of this whole generation you call egotistical, selfish, and self centered. I remember when I was a child and I recieved a trophy, even though my team did not do very well, and even back then I remember thinking it was ridiculous to recieve a reward for doing nothing...So, before you judge MY generation take a look at the one who raised us. If you think we turned out horrible...well...that's on the generation before us, which i'm assuming is YOUR generation.

As for myself, and many others like me, my parents raised me the "old fashioned" way and I know i have nothing guaranteed to me. So before you or anybody else, goes off and judges a whole generation as egotistical, selfish and self centered...use that little body part they call the brain and DON'T. It's very offensive to the people that don't fit into that category and are working their butt's off to change that stereotype. Stop putting yourself on a pedestal, and take a look at how much your generation has done for this country....oh wait...

I gave you your first star.....I love doing that.

I gave it to you for being 19 and having a coherent thought.

You just don't see that anymore (I'm just kidding).

I must be old and bitter...I don't even have a pedestal.

I'm still standing on this old soap box.

Yep, yep, Yep.

Your so right.

Except now when they find out their not "special" some of them can't handle it and lose their minds and just strike out at other people. Maybe we can call it the "Lanza effect".

A whole generation of egotistical, selfish, self centered people who think their special and that new trophy should be handed to them whether it be a new car, job or huge house.

When they can't earn it on their own they get upset and call themselves the 99%'ers and blame the "rich" people
who actually worked for what they have.

get ready for the flames though because most the people on here probably fall into that category........

.......and they don't like to hear or admit the truth.

I have to admit Lanza popped into my head while making the thread.

Add spoiled brat with severe mental illness...Who knows?

My point is, out of their 500+ so called "Friends" on their phone.

How many of those people could they call if they had a flat tire?

Actually I think your above point ties into the point I am trying to make; which is; how many of those 500+ (so-called friends) are just pretenders, predators with evil intentions and hidden agenda's; trying to lure these young people into a (false sense of friendship and security) in order to use and possibly destroy them.

Guilty as charged...

I couldn't even count the trophies I gave to kids for showing up.

They were afraid somebody's feelings would get hurt.

I never agreed with it. But, I did it.

I will take responsibility for my part.

And that is why you have my respect.

Witness, even in this thread, how many skirt the responsibility and point the finger everywhere but at themselves. At ourselves.

Agreed...

If you really start believing that all these people are your real friends.

That is where you are setting yourself up for trouble.

The people I consider my "Real Friends" I could count on one hand.

The people that I feel like I could trust with my child....Two fingers.

Myself and my wife. Out of 500+, The odds are there are some bad people you call friends.

There are some really scary people out there. Make people earn the title "Friend".

It's just a shame that there are no jobs for them.

I pity young people today who don't have the opportunities their parents had, never mind the opportunities enjoyed by their baby boomer grandparents.

The 'jobs' that most people have been doing for the last 70 years have, for the most part, been the major reason that our world is in the place that it is. Everyone is 'just doing my job' and doesn't look at the fact that their corporation is also polluting the world or is exploiting labor or is contributing to declining health.
As I see it, there are PLENTY of jobs, even if no one is 'hiring' for them. They may not always pay right away, but that's okay. There is SO MUCH work to be done.
Our generation is responsible for cleaning up the mess that the previous 2 - 3 generations have made.

I think it's ridiculous that the MSM has labeled us as 'Generation Why Bother?' and think that we are all lazy. I tell you what: That is false. You will not see us on the news. You will not see us being advertised to. You will not see us working the Walmart jobs and Gas station jobs. But we are here. We are active. We are assimilating the problems and figuring out how to deal with them. We have much work to do.

Not sure what you are talking about. I returned to school recently and the amount of people in engineering now a days is pretty astounding. Especially the amount of women now involved in engineering. Back when i was an undergrad it was mostly nerdy guys.

I am very impressed at how motivated and talented many are. They not only think they are special but they act and perform like they are.

Sounds to me like you are bitter old fogeee.

Sigh......Couldn't resist the name calling?

I am specifically not talking about young people in Institutions of higher learning.

I am concerned more with High School and younger on Social Media.

When you use technology to create an alternate reality it concerns me.

I am proud of you for bettering yourself. It takes lots of hard work doesn't it?

That's my point....It takes hard work to get what you want.

I believe this is what we should be instilling in these kids.

Not just show up and everyone gets a trophy.

See how many words I typed without calling you names?

You will not see us working the Walmart jobs and Gas station jobs. But we are here.

Is there something wrong with working at Walmart or a Gas Station.

I guess that you are overqualified in your opinion.

To me a job is a job, but I respect your opinion.

It's the baby boomer generation that has completely destroyed this country and they continue to do so. You want to point the finger? Blame them. Those are the people that vote party. Those are the people that vote for entitlements. That is the generation that all common sense and reality of what this country was founded on was lost to. How many baby boomers care about liberty and freedom? As long as they get their monthly check they could care less. Do you see baby boomers talking about ron paul? Do you see baby boomers at occupy movements? No. You see the new generation out there protesting for liberty. Baby boomers and racist blacks are the idiots that voted D.

There's your reality.

Fair comment and it will pan out at work, our apprentice refuses to make the tea (traditionally part of the apprentice's role) as it is not in his job description so us older guys take turns, guess what ? The apprentice has to make his own, not too bad but we make it 5 minutes before breaks so we all sit down with a cup, the apprentice has to boil the kettle and make his own losing relaxation time. He's a nice kid just not too bright

Some people prefer to make their own tea because the process of making it is relaxing.

I don't know about him but that's why I make my own tea every day... so it may be that he's bright enough to do what he wants without rocking the boat or getting into an uncomfortable conversation about why he prefers to do it himself.

Yeah it really sucks, I graduate college in a few months and I've never felt so lost. Its incredible to see people glued to their phones and what not but at the same time when your raised with technology its a hard thing to break, it turns into a habit, just like smoking or eating bad. A lot of our parents weren't around much, I spent most of my time growing up alone and the only thing to escape it was video games, I lived way far away from my friends so biking wasn't an option. Most kids I hang out or go to my college are in love obama, something major happens and they hear him speak and they instantly fall in love, it beats me because I see right through him. Worst part is i'm a political science major, and we as a generation are greatly indoctrinated towards the liberal viewpoint its really incredible. Every professor and teacher I have had has pressed the liberal agenda to the extreme, most people don't realize it they just go along with whats shown to them. I even see it being pushed in our textbooks. One text book, Comparative Politics In Latin America: Democracy at Last? blamed the drug cartels ability to get firearms and other weapons because we don't have strict enough gun laws and we should be the solution. I could go on for days about what they tell us in school, most of which is complete bs. I've tried to tell people about the world we live in but most don't want to hear or just look at you like yeah ok whatever dude. Even my gf says I spend too much time on this site and glp. I also think were so egotistical because most of us grew up with rap music. We live for the short term. We get messed up every weekend, I know I have but I mean its the only thing that keeps me going through the week. Hopefully I'll be able to get a job, I'm one of the few kids I know who has a large set of skills so I'll be ok. Health wise, wow our generation is truly #ed. I look out the window of the library, 60% of people passing by are overweight. I guess that makes sense though considering a small salad at our school cost $7.50 while at panda you can get a whole meal for $7.00.

The part that really kills me, is the majority of us is waiting for someone or something to save us. Whether its the pharmaceutical companies, the government, aliens, we're all just waiting for someone to save us; we've been saved our whole entire lives, while will anything change. We get extremely butt hurt when someone tells us to shape up or harden up or figure # out on our own. Deep down I think we know the world is #ed up and deep down I think a majority of us know our generation is even more #ed but we're just refusing to look at the bigger picture. Hopefully someday reality will dawn on us. I guess only time will tell. I'll be good but man do I worry about my friends I've made

A trained ape is overqualified for that kind of work. Someone with full possession of a functioning mind has no place slaving away at a cash register for a pittance. The only reason things like gas station attendant and retail worker haven't been replaced by machines is because government subsidies make slaves cheaper.

I work with these young people all day long at a university library. By and large they are all working part time, some of them full time, to put themselves through school. They work without complaint. They don't have an ounce of the entitlement mentality that so many older people want to foist upon them. They are eager to take on new challenges and to do new things. In short, they're a delight to work with and be around.

Yes, thank you, agreed. These black and white pictures people categorize each other into are ridiculous. Personally I think all young people from every generation go through a certain amount of similar things related to their generation. And the adults always say the same things about them, like is being done right here.
