You scoffed at old ideas which are still useful today. You seem to agree that using sunrise and sunset are simple ways to express an observation.

You also stated that

just like we laughed at school when we found out people believed the Earth was flat and the Sun orbited us!

So you laughed at a reasonable explanation. You probably did that in school before you had any personal knowledge that the Earth was not flat. Can you yourself demonstrate that the Earth is not flat? I can. I have.

PS- Science is old. Talking about the past wrong theories, does not "predate science".

PS Science is only a few centuries old. The ideas you mention predate science by millennia.

The change in decay is extremely small. Measurements may never be good enough to make a prediction. Time will tell.

So you really have nothing to confirm this person is what they claim.

The fact that this person introduces alignments shows that they are not what they claim.

Alignments don't affect the Sun. Sun is MASSIVE compared to other objects. Gravity is high, so the gravity field deflects all the incoming gravity.

And I don't see how Sun would be ready for such event. This cycle has so far been very quiet, and it doesn't change fast. Sun is living quiet cycle now. There is only 3 sunspots on Earthside now.

The alignment with galactic centre is the big deal, oh yeah the other big deal is the Milky Way has gone around orvorton again, that alignment takes 200 million years.

What exactly is aligning with what? You said an alignment of planets (and suggested Ceres too), but we have had planetary alignments MANY TIMES before and NOTHING happened. Not even a tiny bit of perturbation. Nada!

Do they mean crossing the plane of the galaxy? If so, it has been occurring for thousands of years and will not actually be exactly aligned with the galactic plane at all this year anyway.

This is so much BS.

The guy who made the video is no Astrophysicist but is a doom-porn merchant wanting to sell his books to the chronically gullible.

He's not an astrologer himself, he's an astrophysicist. He consults with other professionals for a full discussion.

No, he's lying. He is not an Astrophysicist. As the YouTube credit says, he is an Astrologer and he consults with more astrologers.

Astrophysicists do not do "charts", Astrologers do, they produce charts of alignments and conjunctions and from these purport to be able to foretell future events.

Astrologers pretend that 1/12's of the human population operate in lock-step with each other because it is mandated by the position of the stars and planets with respect to each other.

The simple fact that Astrologers cannot agree with each other on what actions those segments of society will do, that they disagree with the charts of alignments and conjunctions and that the underlying concepts have been dis-proven again and again, shows that they are either self-deluded or lying charlatans. I believe the latter is the case.

Astrophysicists use scientific method to try and understand nature (in regard to stellar objects).

There is a vast difference between the function of the two, despite the similarity of the sound of the names.

You win champ.

Feel better?

Wrong.

In fact, many experts recognize Ibn al-Haytham, who lived in present-day Iraq between 965 and 1039 A.D., as the first scientist. He invented the pinhole camera, discovered the laws of refraction and studied a number of natural phenomena, such as rainbows and eclipses.

Not taking into account Pythagoras, or any of the other greek scientists...

Few centuries? Or over a millenia? Unless of course you are talking about modern science...

GET THE ASPIRIN!!!

In all honesty, the Sun isn't 100% predictable. Very difficult to pinpoint (accurately) a huge solar flare coming. We would maybe know an hour or two before the blast.. Viola!

Sorry champ but you are completely wrong on the origins of science

Not taking into account Pythagoras, or any of the other greek scientists...

The Greeks such as Pythagorus did not do science as we use the word today.

en.wikipedia.org...

Science in a broad sense existed before the modern era, and in many historical civilizations, but modern science is so distinct in its approach and successful in its results that it now defines what science is in the strictest sense of the term. Much earlier than the modern era, another important turning point was the development of the classical natural philosophy in the ancient Greek-speaking world.

In modern use, "science" more often refers to a way of pursuing knowledge, not only the knowledge itself. It is "often treated as synonymous with 'natural and physical science', and thus restricted to those branches of study that relate to the phenomena of the material universe and their laws, sometimes with implied exclusion of pure mathematics. This is now the dominant sense in ordinary use."[4] This narrower sense of "science" developed as scientists such as Johannes Kepler, Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton began formulating laws of nature such as Newton's laws of motion.

It is quite clear that what was done earlier is not the same as what is known today as science.

So when you laughed in class you were comparing apples to oranges. Long before science existed people already knew the Earth was not flat. That was long before Aristotle and Pythagoras. I have made the same observations.

If a Carrington Event CME comes our way, it will take about 18 hours to get here.
That is more than enough time for the Andromeda Council to position a huge
biosphere between the Earth and our sun ( Sol Star ).
The different biospheres are described here:
Biospheres the size of planets

The chart he uses is generated by solar fire, 'the Rolls Royce of Astrology software'.

Shame on you, mixing science with fiction :p
As for the major X-flare, I'm sure we'll get one in our lifetime, but 12/21/2012 nah......

edit : btw before anyone pays for that software, it's worth noting that the planetary simulation was done via this website : www.solarsystemscope.com... - very misleading to say otherwise.

He is stating that due to the upcoming planetary alignments, including an asteroid "ceres" also aligning with the planets. This alignment could cause disruption with the Sun and cause an X-flare. He goes onto say that this alignment is similar to the alignment of planets that caused the Carrington Event of 1859. Such an event today will wipe out our electrical grid and cause long term damage.

What upcoming planetary alignment?

There are none in December 2012. Nor will there be any significant alignments for several dacades into the future.

And yes... Ceres is a large asteroid but only 590Mi in diameter. Hardly a significant gravity well and definitely not large enough to cause any sort of problems.

Let me be the first to say; if there is any merit to this, it could be about time for our Pineal gland's to finally wake up. I'm waiting in the day the Great Architect will flip that switch to open up our third eyes.

Yes me too, because we will need that third eye after blindness occurs in the other two [basically leaving them useless]

I hear tell that Dr. Paul LaViolette has gotten involved with this subject. Far as I can tell is an Ivy League Scientist, not a quack crack pot

LaViolette appears to have once been a good scientist and now is relegated to speaking at UFO meetings and Coast to Coast AM. He went from scientist to huckster. He went to far as to found a group to study things not deemed to be scientific.
