The online 14-minute clip of a purportedly anti-Islamic movie that sparked protests at the US embassy in Cairo and and the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya is now looking like it could have been ginned up by someone sitting a basement with cheap dubbing software.

Some interesting and convincing points are made:

the fact that almost every instance of language referring to Islam or Muhammad in the film has been dubbed in. That is, mouths are mouthing but the words you're hearing don't match.

A man named "Sam Bacile" was identified as being the writer and producer. He claimed to be an Israeli citizen. The Israelis say they have no record of him.

There is no record of a "Sam Bacile" living in California, and his strange insistence on the fact that he was Jewish and that he had exclusively Jewish funders for his film in an interview with the Associated Press now looks like something of a red flag.

Among the overdubbed words is "Mohammed," suggesting that the footage was taken from a film about something else entirely. The footage also suggests multiple video sources — there are obvious and jarring discrepancies among actors and locations... whoever made (it) may well have made use of little more than the standard editing software Final Cut Pro — far from a cast and crew of over 100 and millions of dollars.

Muhammad Film Consultant Not Israeli

What a perfect incident for conspiracy theorists to pick apart?
I, for one, smell the stink of this seemingly obvious orchestrated situation.
It seems that, as of late, there have been an inordinate amount of "incidents" which either make no sense when we are given the alleged details, and/or seem to be blatant attempts at inciting civil unrest.

As Hefficide so sensibly stated in his current thread....."STOP! Breathe! Think! And Realize!!

This seems more like the work of one dumbass individual, who's sole intent was to incite rage and anger from one specific target towards another.
ONE PERSON playing TWO NATIONS off of each other.

WHY???

The person used a phony name and is now being questioned by the police (not because of the movie, though).

The movie is "real" but the actors were tricked to believe it was something else, which would explain why "Muhammed" has been dubbed.

Nothing to see here.

There's only one logical conclusion to this plot...

Y'ALL BEEN TROLLED!!!

Yep, it's right there. Some techie with the necessary equipment got hacked off at the Middle East and America and decided to set off a conflict from the comfort of their mother's basement, hiding behind an elaborate maze of proxies and laughing their __ off at the government of all concerned parties.

Well played, sir. Well played indeed.

I, for one, am sick, sick, sick of the thin skinned reactionary nonsense that ensues every time some book like
Salman Rushdie's Satanic Verses, cartoons depicting Muhammad like the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy, the current ridiculous tantrum that's being thrown over a movie, and others voluntarily censoring themselves like the South Park censoring of Muhammed due concern goes on because of cultural intolerance.

This tip-toeing around some other culture's intolerant sensitivities need stop.
Sensitivity training and tolerance needs be taught world wide.

Some Christians were up in arms over the graphic depictions and some controversial choices in the Mel Gibson Jesus Chainsaw Massacre film, but, I'm pretty certain riots didn't ensue.

Hindus aren't going to have a coronary if you make a joke about Krishna, or Ganesh.
Buddhists aren't going to get all stabby or call for holy war if you blow up historical depictions of some of the largest Statues of Buddha that are/were culturally significant worldwide.

This whole nonsense is boggling.

What the hell are you talking about. If anybody has been TROLLED it's been Islam. The US on the other hand has been dealing with the mess of the Trolled.

We've even had people killed.

There's been multiple threads about the true identity of the film maker and the MSM & FBI have found the man who claimed to be Sam Bacile. He's actually recently been questioned by the FBI probation officers. He isn't under arrest but he is a criminal and has spent a few years behind state and federal prisons already. There was also a recent article about the movie crew who said they were grossly misled. It's obvious the dubbed in parts of the movie were added later and not part of the original script. The man who did this was from Eqypt, a Copic Christian, and now is an American citizen living in California.

The true conspirator, IMHO, would be the individual who dubbed the 14 minute cluster-F of film clips into Arabic and posted it on YouTube.

Although it was posted to YouTube in July, the film only attracted attention in the Middle East after an unknown person recently dubbed it into Egyptian Arabic. That translation, which the man who identified himself as Bacile told the AP was accurate, has been broadcast repeatedly on Egyptian media in recent weeks after being seized upon by extreme Islamists who dislike the presence of the country’s Coptic Christians.

Some techie made this clip in a basement somewhere and incited riot protests across 17 countries? Nah, you don't have to be a techie to do this, all you need is Windows Movie Maker, which comes standard in Windows anything.

Whether or not there is doesnt matter. Its legal, and freedom of speech, expression of views must be upheld all the time.

And I'm so glad that muslims have somehow seen this, or its trailer, because we're getting a real look at the childish, oppression and fascism that is under the hood of Islam.

I think we need to see this!

They're revealed their colors, that they follow blindly IMAMs orders and I am very glad to see it in the open.

He was questioned for parole violation, from what I understand, due to previous charges for fraud/forgery.

To my knowledge, nothing has been shown to prove that this particular individual is, in fact, the same person who made the film.
A name is coincidental, circumstancial evidence. Until the "actors" (and I use that term very loosely...) come forward and identify him as the individual whom they worked with, he is merely a face to put on the perpetrator to appease the masses.

And like I stated above, I believe the person who is truly guilty of malicious intent, is the person who dubbed it in Arabic.
The person who actually endeavored to make this wretched attempt at "film making" is just guilty of poor taste and paltry skill, among several other unsavory attributes that I will refrain from posting here.

It was probably the radical Muslims in control of the country who wish to garner support for their cause that dubbed in the hateful speech….that makes the most sense to me.

Most decent people in the ME don’t want more conflict and they’re tired of the extreme theocratic rule they’ve been subjected to. This seems like an attempt to rally their people behind the theocracy and strengthen their control.

Why would US or Israel want to incite the entire Muslim world?? You have to ask who would benefit from this? It makes a lot more sense that a group like the Muslim Brotherhood would benefit from inciting hatred for America.

What, nothing has been shown to prove he is the man behind the film? How about witnesses who knew him, or better yet, his aliases, from fellow Anti Muslim haters to the Movie crew and actors? The actors & movie crew did indeed come forward, all 80 of them. Did you not read the headlines of the links I provided

The man is found.

What I find strange is how a terrible B+ movie trailer made it to countries like Sudan, Libya, Yemen etc where they don't have easy access to the internet to begin with.

It is like some group drummed up attention in various places around the world to this clip with the very intent to cause unrest.

It is a no-brainer in the Islamic world that attacking their prophet will send them into a frenzy based on many past examples that have occurred.

hmmmm.....like an attempt to justify laying siege on American Embassies.

I guess whomever we're dealing with has an itchy trigger finger and is simply ready to git'r done and "begin the end", so to speak.

It seems that way.

Who would benefit most from stirring this pot? Why would US or Israel poke the hornets’ nest before entering?

Nowhere in any of your links does it state that the people who worked on the film have positively identified the man in custody as the same individual who filmed it.

Even then, the director of the film does not mean that he was also the producer. The people who worked on the film most likely never even saw the person responsible for the production.

Sam Bacile still remains anonymous.

Man named Nakoula Basseley Nakoula found at address where phone number was listed - but denied he was Bacile

Nakoula, who told the AP that he was logistics manager for the film, was under requirements to provide authorities with records of all his bank and business accounts.

As does the person who actually gave the AP interview, because it was over the phone:

The Wall Street Journal identified the filmmaker as Sam Bacile, an Israeli-American real estate developer. The Journal reported that, in its telephone interview with Bacile, he characterized his film as "a political effort to call attention to the hypocrisies of Islam."
