I disagree. I think they have the right to be married as long as there are churches willing, and goverment certificates. It isn't the religious institution they are fighting for, churches NEVER have to marry gay people, but the right to be married as a government institution. They should be entitled to the same benefits. There are probably many religions that allow gays to marry. In the US would only straight unions in that religion be allowed? How absurd is that? It's inexplicable. Separation of church and state was included because of things exactly like this.

In just a few short years you and other people opposed to gay rights will be looked at in the exact same light as the ignorant people that discriminated against black in the earlier half of the last century. Is that really how you want to look?

They could care less about gay marriage, it's all about vilifying the other side and now that Obama has shown them the light, they get to create moral high ground for their messiah by spreading the hate.

Anyone remember beauty pageant contestants getting dumped on for their answers to this same issue? They love it when people have a different point of view and they know they will find lots of easy targets, so they can smear smear smear. People are suffering because they use their right to free speech then get attacked, but nobody seems to care, they can't see past the cardboard issue of gay marriage.

OH I see--another Fabian Socialist tactic, divide and conqure.
another case of the Govt using minorities thru emotions to grow more govt

check.

I support gay rights and I am a fiscal conservative.
So you think that unless you are gay you are supporting gay rights as part of an agenda?

so, its not good enough that some states gays can marry , you want the Federal Govt to handle the enforcement across all 50 States? or what. whats the problem gays are having?

im ignorant

Absolutely! Federal Marriage Equality.

Ever bothered to check why states have marriage rights? It was for the purpose of discrimination. States were given marriage rights to keep undesirables out.

LOL if you say so.....youre really backwards but I doubt you care about my perspective if youre that far phuckd.
You are a soldier in a made up divisionary war. I understand how that comes about.

it was nice talking to you tho

Is marriage all you've got? because we all know that that isn't REALLY an issue anymore.....they CAN and DO get married. They are not a special group of people who deserve special treatment. They are simply people, like other people, who are afforded the same human rights as others. And just like other people with other characteristics that single them out they are targeted by hateful losers on a daily basis.

"They can and do get married". Yes, they can and they do, but if you leave the state in which you live, your marriage is no longer recognized. Also, just because they're married doesn't mean that they always have the same rights as every other heterosexual married couple in that state. They are not afforded the same human rights as others. But besides that, this discussion is not about the "others" you keep talking about. This is about gay-rights. There are people who fight for protection for other people who have discrimination, bullying, and other problems already. If someone is dying of a stab-wound, you wouldn't look at them and say "Plenty of other people are dying too...stop whining and asking for me to give you special treatment", would you? Of course not.

The GLBTQ community will stop "whining" when they have equal rights.

You're right - - I am not interested in your perspective. I think your perspective is off to the side somewhere.

Maybe another poster is interested. Please try discussing your perspective with another poster.

People get married at churches. The Federal govt is not allowed to get involved with church and state. You want to replace the ordained minister with a Federal judge. That is unconstitutional. Every marriage would require a federal judge in order for there to be "Equality" as you put it. That is never going to happen.

Thank you.

But none are Federally recognized.

Federal marriage has privileges not available by any other means - - including state marriage.

State marriage is still not Equal.

No I said the liberal media aka MSM is using this for political reasons. I am sure there are democrats opposed to this issue, where are the stories vilifying them?

When has the Fed Gov succeeded at anything like equality?

poverty, crime, environmental pollution....

you ask for a partnership with bad business, when has the Federal Govt ever succeeded at doing anything at a federal level?

Get real guy?

The government issues marriage certificates pretty well right? They aren't asking for a new department, just to do a few more of what they are already doing. That is the weakest argument I have heard because it doesn't work in this situation.

Oh, now I see...you want gays to have a SUPERIOR marriage, one higher than all others. This is insane.

You truly are ignorant of the world around you.
Marriages happen at courthouses all the time. You are incapable of understanding the problem so why bother commenting on it? Gay people can't get married by the government and gain government benefits. Atheists get married all the time.

Man.. are there really people this dumb out in the world?

LEGAL GOVERNMENT MARRIAGE

You can only be legally married with a government license entitled Marriage License.

This has nothing to do with religion or church.

If you want to have a religious marriage in church - - - - go for it.

I've been around enough bible believers who don't pity gays. They want to smash their faces in.

Well that's odd, who are you hanging out with?

I been around Christians too, for 62 years, and never once heard one say anything like that.

I unfortunately have.
Several times from different people over the years.

I once had a friend tell me that a born again christian told him he was going to hell because his people killed Jesus.

While it may not be prevalent where you are. It does exist.
And it shouldn't exist.
And I certainly understand why the lgbt community is adamant about equal rights.

I'd be worried too if the followers of christianity are constantly saying that homosexuality is a sin and some are saying that it's an abomination.

How many times do you have to hear that before you get sick of it?

Not Federal courthouses using Federal Judges that is different from the county clerk giving a marriage license for a few dollars, get with the issues being discussed, it makes you look like what you laughingly tried to accuse me of being.

LOL this thread is making me laugh, maybe because in my world, the Fedgov seems too involved i me and my neighbors lives, and they would prolly say the same thing.

here, you have a group of people that WANT the Fedgov to get involved with their personal lives! Its crazy, but I understand how it comes about....its just funny to hear people say how "great" it would be to have the Fedgov this and that......

....careful what you wish for!

Absolutely, Annee. I totally agree. Some people just don't want to see the inequality when it's as plain as the nose on their faces. They want the GLBTQ community to be happy with separate but equal even though it's not equal at all.
