I am a different kind of Christian than these so-called Christians in this video. They give true Christians a bad name. A real Christian would never seek to rile another group by forcing your religious views down their throat. I show my Christianity by what I call acts of Stewardship. Being kind to others. Going out of my way to help and assist those in need, no matter what their skin color or region might be. I try to think what Christ might have done in any situation. In this situation I don't see Jesus standing there with a sign, or a pigs head on a stick. In fact in the Bible there was such an incident in John 8:7 where a stoning was occurring. He simply stepped between the angry crowd and the woman being stoned and picked up one of the stones and said to the crowd who where condemning her "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her". Needless to say, as the story goes, they dropped their stones and left. Jesus told the woman to go and sin no more.
I can't believe this is happening in America though. This looks like something I'd expect to see in an Arab country where stoning is allowed by law. I think the way the Police Dept responded was totally in appropriate. They should have at least warned the crowd who were mostly little kids. Unruly little kids, who take this mentality of violence being ok in our schools.
The Sheriff of Dearborn, MI, Mike Jaafar, I recognize from a reality TV show called "All-American Muslim". I watched the show to see what differences we might have, if any. He seemed well respected by his fellow officers, but in this situation I'm sure he knew good and well that these men were getting pummeled by the crowd, and yes they were wrong morally, not legally, to protest the way they were, but that doesn't given anyone the right to physically assault them with thrown objects (weapons-block of concrete to the head is a dealy weapon at that). They should have in some way used a bull horn or something to break up the crowd and warn them that those caught assaulting anyone there would go to jail. (who knows, I wasn't there and maybe they did later. I can only go by what I saw in the video.
All I have to say to everyone on ATS is that these men with the signs are a poor representation of a Christian. I was raised not to judge others, lest ye be judged. They should mind their own business in my opinion. Please don't generalize all Christians as having the same mentality as them. I'm glad my religion, the way I learned it in all of my 40+ years, never taught me to hate others, or to physically hurt others to bring them over to my way of believing.
I pray for everyone and all I know is that these are tough enough times we are living in without having to waste time bickering with one another. Like Rodney King said many years ago (God rest his soul), "Can't we all just get along!".
God Bless everyone that reads this.

BS and you know it. If I stand in front of your house, in the street, with a legal permit, and I shout hateful things at you. You should kick my ass. You have every right to kick my ass.

You know what? No. You most certainly do not have that 'right'. No one has the right to 'kick someones ass' for saying something they don't like. It goes against the basic principles on which this country was founded. We have freedom of speech (ALL SPEECH) specifically so people don't feel afraid to speak out.

The law might say otherwise, but you and I are men, and we know better.

No, apparently you do not. I don't know what kind of man you claim to be, but real men don't lose their cool over a few offensive words. To kick someones ass because of something they said is childish and barbaric.

There is "legal" and there is "right" and I tend to follow what is right and let the legalities take care of themselves.

Apparently not, because physically assaulting someone over words is most certainly violating their rights, and is not 'right'.

in what sense is Islam a religion of peace?

In what sense is any religion of peace? They all talk about peace how you should be good and blah blah blah. Yet they all still seem to try to conquer the other. It's all a joke, nobody in the world knows who the one true god is. But everywhere you go everyone seems to think they have the right one. This is nothing new it has been going on since the beginning of time.

I think it is interesting that there are SO many posts in this thread that are getting the warning! Yet all the Pro-Islam posts with hateful rhetoric do remain. Interesting indeed.

Clearly JAIL is for those who are ever in the way of the 5-0, regardless of right and wrong. You make them work for that paycheck, they will arrest you. Notice how many of those officers looked very out of shape? They would rather go after the low hanging fruit then tackle some real problems. I can't say it is the same for every officer, and lord knows I have them in my family, but the police DO look at you as less of a person. How dare you create work for me.

Not going to bother reading this thread, I'll just get post banned or something.

But let me ask those who think this is OK.

Do you think muslims would have walked away? Or stayed and kicked on? These guys were leaving when they were assaulted. That any of you can justify that sickens me. But it is typical. You've been brainwashed to think of islam as the poor widdle me religion, where only us nasty creeps with an agenda can ever have anything to say.

If you're not with them, you're obviously the deviant enemy.

You asked for it. You get it. And when they get used to being allowed to stomp all over you, I'll laugh when they do it to YOU, yes YOU mister and misses "Oh leave them alone, theyre harmless."

I can't wait, it's inevitable and going to happen. And YOU let it.

bah, not me tho...

This thread left me behind after my 19 hour workday today. So i am not even going to try to catch up. BUT, let me point out something....

Do you know what "Divide and Conquer" means? Because if not, this is what it is. If you think that it is "us" vs. "them", you are only partially right. It IS "us" vs. "them"...but the "them" are the banking elite

On that note, you probably would agree that there is a class war going on. But it isn't rich vs poor. It is rich vs poor via poor vs. poor. The divide and conquer strategy works so well, that we do all the killing on behalf of the banking elite, then they swoop in and pick over the national carcasses that are left behind. Maybe they will even be nice enough to offer you a high interest loan to rebuild the country they just finished destroying in their class war by proxy.

People here keep saying "that isn't the Christian thing to do" or "are you shocked it was muslims involved?"

I say BS to this. It has nothing to do with Christianity or Islam. It has EVERYTHING to do with being human. It isn't like any one group has a lock on maligned behavior. If you are human, you possess a capacity for evil just waiting to be exploited by someone who can tug on your ego, boggle your intellect, and shake your psyche.

Everyone here is so wound up over protecting their religion. I keep seeing people say, "I am just sick of seeing Christians bad mouthed". One thing I have learned is that if I identify myself with a group, then I am expected to own the mistakes made by the worst element of that group. It is the way things are. And since you will always feel defensive when something you associate with is attacked, you are just setting yourself up for trouble and strife.

People, it is just religion. I understand you take it seriously. So do Muslims. I understand that disrespecting your religion makes you angry. The same can be said of Muslims. I made a comment about religion being the same type of fiction as Paul Bunyan (referring to all religions), and for this someone that I have known a long time on the internet has decided that I am "intolerant" and full of "hate" because if "hate christians". Absolutely nothing in those accusations is true. But friendship doesn't matter now does it?

Do we see how easy it is to leverage your faith as a weapon against you? Or, to direct you as a weapon against someone else? If me having the opinion that religion is fiction can create an enemy from a friend of many years (I use to admin a forum for this person long before I ever even registered on ATS), you can imagine how easy it is to make you hate someone you don't even know.

good for them

Now, I have another point that I don't want buried in the prior reply.

Being a Christian by upbringing (i even went to a Baptist university), I have a very, very thorough education in the Bible (even taking several theological classes while in college). I don't choose to reject this faith because of ignorance, I guess.

Having provided a basis for this reference, I would like to have everyone who knows the story to recall the "Tower of Babel" story. All humanity was able to communicate (speak the same language), and because of this they were able to achieve things that were so great that God himself feared that Humans would rival his ability (or, he just got pissed at them for having the nerve to even try, depending on what interpretation you want to use). Regardless, God felt he had to act. And how did he act?

Well, he just made it difficult for the humans to communicate. And once they stopped communicating, they lost the ability to achieve these things that were so great.

Even God sees how effective the divide and conquer strategy is. In this very day we have a total lack of communication (shouting threats is not communicating, nor is shooting at each other). And along with this we see an inability to achieve (i would happily trade my internet and cell phone technology for peace and health).

Look at us. We cannot even talk amongst ourselves in this country. What the hell makes us think we can communicate with a culture so different.

You can make a choice. YOu can either keep the status quo and continue feeding the class war by proxy. Or you can refuse to participate. You can disallow the use of yourself as a pawn for someone wanting to manipulate your emotions. You can stop attaching your ego and identity to some amorphous group of strangers who are destined to repeatedly let you down with their own failures (be it a religious group, a political group, whatever). You can stand for what YOU are, hold your own convictions, and do what you think is right. But above all else, quit hating any particular group for portraying behaviors that, at the end of the day, are simply human behaviors that each and every one of us may be capable of if caught in a moment of weakness and manipulation.

The US is the freest country that is possible insomuch as it is a human weakness that we cannot tolerate other people doing things that threaten our own identity. Once a person gets it in their mind that "they" (meaning any 1 particular group) tend to do "X", the fight is on.

I mean, we have a guy in this very thread that is posting links to "thereligionofpeace.com" as support that Muslims are the most evil. Really. This person just copy/pastes data from these anti-muslim propaganda sites as proof.

And how did he find these sites you ask? Because he went researching "what makes the Muslims so violent". As if THAT question didn't skew the entire study by narrowing search results to only propaganda sites.

People do want freedom. But they only want freedom to be just like them.

I bet you think that if I called you ugly, and you didn't like it, you have the right to attack me... If you want to have a law dictate your actions, maybe you should understand that it works for both parties. I can say what I want and so can you. Or are you, such as the video noted, implying that violent acts deserve reward?

I agree that it was a hazardous situation that the Christian group put themselves into, but they have that right. The "Peace/Police/Public Service Officers, or whatever they are called nowadays, failed to uphold the law and safety of their citizens. They went with the flow because it was easier than against it. Afterwards, they followed the "protesters" outside of the festival's grounds, attempting to...what, "get them back?" I thought the Officers were supposed to be the brave and upholders of the law. They seem more like that quiet kid in class who knows the answer to question the teacher asked, but didn't raise their hand because nobody else did.

Very few people really want to uphold the law, they just want the law to be on their side.

More and more sheep are being produced, and more and more freedom is being stripped away. By the looks of some of these comments, it seems more and more of those sheep are poisoning our forums. I think the new slogan for ATS should be "Accept Ignorance".

Amen to that! If you aren't completely submissive to them as well you might end up in jail. Things would have been totally different in this situation for everyone had cameras not been around. Imagine the difference. I may be a Christian, but let one of those people in the crowd that appeared over 18 hit me with a rock or bottle I probably would have snapped, which is a great reason you don't put yourself in a volatile situation like this in the first place.
Dum da dum dum!

IF some asshole who believed in another religion did the same to a gathering of my religion, I would react the same. I am violent, I am an asshole. I do not blame the muslims for how they reacted.

The englishman that said this is actions atypical of Muslims in Britain, Id go after all those motherf$#ckers. What it all comes down to, is

Dont mess with me, and I wont mess with you.

If I see you messing with someone else, Your damned right I hope that that person kicks your ass.

Its fairly easy, actually.

It's perfectly obvious who the protagonists are in the video.
Do these "christians" always just wander the streets in groups with placards? With high-def video cameras at the ready.
< sarcasm>
I mean, what a massive coincidence that they happened upon these "heathens" having a peaceful rally.
These must be complete savages to have so "violently" reacted after being provoked.
< sarcasm over>

To the OP, you are an absolute disgrace and a kick in the face to Christians everywhere.
In fact because of the way you have portrayed this video you have sinned and will be going to the hell you have damned these Muslims to.
Please do not associate yourself with Christianity as this proves that you are doing the polar opposite to what Christ taught.

In your opinion it is but the 1.6 billion muslims in the world do not think so, plus quite a few who do not follow a religion.
You get extremists in Religion so tarring them all with the same brush is silly.
Oh and all the people who say well they are more terrorists attack by Muslims etc well ask yourself this, would you do nothing if your country was invaded and your family was killed by a stray bomb? or would you want revenge?

That is the problem, a significant proportion of Muslims practicing Islam DO believe in those violent passages. Just your post alone would target you for death.

You will have to prove your comment. You will gave to prove that an atser will be targeted for death over his comment by Muslims.

I cannot, then you are a liar.

Also what Muslims believe about their faith is strictly their business and not yours especially when you have a reputation for not being truthful.
