If a new reserve currency emerges, wouldn't it be in America's best interest to dump the USD hard and pay back it's debt with worthless currency in USD$, then when the new reserve currency takes over, take advantage of whatever schemes that are built in which dictate the value.

Of course Australia and Chine will never be a reserve currency. The Euro might have had a chance but not now. It would have to be a NWO type currency. If so, they won't exactly pay dollar for dollar based on the currency exchange. It would happen after economic turmoil.

Small emerging countries would be bought off by releasing their debts and powerhouses like the US would make the case that they are losing out and need top be valued at a previous rate.

Australia would loose out. We might not be the lucky country anymore, me thinks. We'd be fighting to keep what we have.

I am an american(yank lol) that lived in Australia for 8 months through 11-12.
My wife is from there and so are all the in-laws of course.
The people were awesome. The food was great and the scenery was phenomenal to say the least!
Heck I'll probably retire there later in life. So what brought me back to ol USA considering
I could have lived in OZ forever?? The economy! It scared me straight back to the US.
I couldn't afford to buy food. Beer cigarettes even gas(petrol for my aussie friends on here)
Everybody was angry there about prices. No one was happy about that. And yes, it did scare me back to the US.
And if there was one thing that really made me make my decision. It was that stupid carbon tax.
I was paying $1000 dollars every three months on electric!!

So I do think the OP trolls. He needs to look around where he lives and see how people really feel
About his strong economy that will be the future reserve.

Alright all, gotta go workout. Need to stay fit and limber for the zombie apocalypse lol!

I wouldn't give him so much credit. He is probably about 18-20 y.o.. The failure of my government to secure its debts is a really scary issue and honestly scares the # out of me. Its even hard to fathom having kids with such as uncertain future always looming. I think when Americans reads posts that are so divisive and casual about serious issue, people take real offense. I just think he is probably just an over opinionated young Aussie, who likes to read his own posts....

WTF...Germy you have lost the plot...

Australia is NOTHING in the World of Finance.

We are a Miniscule speck, in the overall picture.

Dont believe the tripe the government says, the only part of the economy that is moving is mining.
That is only because of pure dumb luck and greed, greed as in deals done by Execs in Oz, to make the quick profit.

Australia is still a slave to its customers.... Only a few years ago, the LPG companies did a 15 year deal to sell LPG to Japan......guess what the price was locked it for..... 1 cent per litre!!!! For 15 YEARS !!!!!!!
Yes thats the "Good" ozzy business man.

If the Asians didnt get cheap raw materials from the big mine that is Australia, they would buy it from South America or Africa...which they will once they get their claws in...and Australia will be left for dead.
We have already exported most of our jobs, we dont even process much of our raw materials, we only have one oil refinery and thats going to close, because we import our Petrol (gas) from Singapore!!!!!!.

We are up the creek, and we are loosing hold of the paddle.
This new carbon tax will finish Australia.......
Any room in the US for a good Ol, gun totin, rootin shootin white boy who loves his V8s...but cant afford to drive them here because fuel is $6.00+ per gallon and registration is $800.00 per year.

Isa comin over......

If your an Aussie... Why do you say Gallon?

I think he was saying what the prices were in gallons so he can relate to Americans
On this board what the gas prices over there were. I'm American, lived in Australia and still don't
Understand liters and all that. Stupid Americans lol

To make it a comparison for the Americans, of course, i should have said Imperial Gallon, which is 4.546 litres.

The US Gallon is around 4 litres.

I dont think 99% of Americans would know what a litre is.
.

Even tho all their engines are now quoted in litres.

It not their fault, they still use the Imperial System.

What will you do when the US whips China in a 72 hour war leaving them with a bunch of US debt that the US will not honor, ports that cannot process shipping, no satellites, no internet, no US customers, little electricity, no more food imports from the US (the US keeps millions of chinese fed...russians too), a bunch of busted dams, and an inferiority complex that won't wear off for a hundred years?

The US can conventionally hit every powerplant, Dam, runway, and port in China from a thousand miles away. All within a ten minute time frame if it wants to. The US can very likely take over Chinese satellites and use them as their own. Every Chinese naval ship will go to the bottom of the sea on the first day.

Remember, China may just now be spending a hundred billion dollars on its military, but the US has been the biggest spender by multiples of the number 2 spender for many decades. US black projects spend half as much as Chinas entire known military budget. The US can blockade and starve China from a thousand miles away. Not even a row boat could get of a harbor.

The US will remain the world reserve currency because it will beat down the other contender in a laughable way.

Just you wait and see.

I'm an aussie, and just want to say that it wouldn't be as bad as you make it seem. Fact is our economy is actually in terrible shape, only sector of our entire economy doing well is mining. Retail is in its worse shape since the 60's, construction is declining and going to come to a stall when the carbon tax kicks in and we don't make or manufacture anything anymore... even all our iconic aussie brands are owned by foreign companies. Basically when mining slows (which it will) we have nothing to fall back on and our $AUD will fall hard n fast and so long as our Govt invests in nothing but this mining boom we're doomed.

Considering how the game has been playing it is very much one tacit to watch, debt to be paid off with soon to be worthless junk, backed up by military intimidation to force the rip off. Then as a new currency comes into play, guess who is still in control.

The underlying response to this post is if the AUD was worthy of being a reserve currency, it would be. You don't legislate the demand for a currency. You're overestimating Australia's potential. We're $150 billion in debt. Good comparably, but Greece was once doing good comparably. We're on the same socialist train, we just missed the first departure thanks to a healthy surplus and a mining boom.

Quite a few Aussie's were around during the Metrication of Australia, many of which I know still occasionally use Imperial units in every day life.

We still use some Imperial measurements in shooting too.

The AUD being the reserve currency? I'm not sure if that is meant to be sarcasm, a joke, hope or delusion but i'm afraid your country just doesn't have enough wealth or clout to be a reserve currency.

The US will remain there and only when it starts to fall off the perch will we see another world wide war which will most likely kill most of us whilst TPTB are safe in bunkers ready to emerge in the "new world" and repeat the whole scenario again!!!

Germanicus, do you happen to me a member of the citizens electoral council party? en.wikipedia.org...

They're a loony group of my fellow countrymen, they often hand out pamphlets at public events

Still, a commodity based currency would be a terrible reserve currency. It is too prone to fluctuation.

Germanicus you are just coming off as an ass, but I believe you are right about the USD it is losing power just like how the EURO is in jeopardy, China currency should be much stronger than it is now, but they keep low to keep an edge on exports. Should the USD stay as the world currency I dunno, but i'm willing to bet the G20 will come up with a new currency if the world economic situation keeps getting worse.

I have nothing against Australia and China...if anything I wish for China to continue to grow and prosper in a healthy way, but I just don't see China economic growth being sustainable because of resources...1.4 billion people little less than 5x the USA population...if China ever consume the same even half of what the normal american does that would acquire so much power and resources China is building a lot of DAMS, but it's not enough, and pollution will only keep getting worse unless they change .....

if anything China could become like the Japanese empire the main reason the Japanese empire expanded and was in WW2 was because of the lack of resources....just look how China is getting involved in Africa.....and the tension over the Spratly Islands....too many people not enough resources growing powers like China,India, and other SEA countries will no doubly fight over what little resources there are for their growing economies, just doesn't look good for the world and enviroment. we must cooperate and not start WW3 no one will be the winner.

I didn't think so, as he wasn't being serious or pretentious, but you were and your comment is decidedly pretentious.
