The whole insanity defense thing is insane. Does anyone take another life without being insane except in self defense? i don't think so. All murderers should be recieveing pyschiatric care. Prisons should have their own mental hospitals. The murderer should serve their entire sentence even if they are deemed mentally well after treatment.

I'm sure some of you remember this incident. Maybe this guy had been spending too much time on ATS lol. Either that or he's an MKULTRA experiment that went wrong.

Or...maybe he is just schizophrenic, as the article clearly states.

I just hope that I don't end up cutting peoples' heads off for hanging around this place!

There's actually a certain compulsion already for me to do so in the case of Harte and a few other guys...

Or...

He's a few fries short of a happy meal.

From what I remember about the incident, and it set ATS on fire for a few days, the dude is seriously in need of psychological help. This would seem to confirm that.

Unless, of course, if the decapitated man's head morphed into the head of a reptilian...and that's why government agents secreted it away so swiftly.

But that sounds more like David Icke's take on it or that of some tabloid newspaper. Absolutely no truth behind it in any case.

I read about the guy being considered for some kind of supervised release a few days ago. It seems like yesterday when I learned of this man's crime. All I have to say is that it was one of the most grizzliest murders I have ever heard of.

This guy is a menace to society, and should spend the rest of his days in a padded room under the watchful eyes of orderlies and psychiatrists. He is insane! That poor kid was mutilated. I care not what the justification is for a madman. His excuse is hogwash! It is no different than the "Son of Sam," saying a dog told him to murder all those people in New York City during the seventies.

David Berkowitz

During questioning, Berkowitz said that the "Sam" mentioned in the first letter was Sam Carr, his former neighbor. Berkowitz claimed that Carr's black labrador retriever, Harvey, was possessed by an ancient demon, and that it issued irresistible commands that Berkowitz must kill people. Berkowitz said he once tried to kill the dog, but was unsuccessful due to supernatural interference.

I just love how these nutcases concoct these elaborate fairy tales to justify their unspeakable atrocities. What a ruse! Lock them up and throw away the key! There is no amount of medication or rehabilitation that will bring these people back to reality. Back to reality? That is if they were ever part of reality to begin with? I hope the Canadian legal establishment thinks long and hard about what they are contemplating? This guy is crazier than a rat in a tin crap house. I am not kidding!

I have paranoid schizophrenia myself. I've been to the farthest reaches of insanity and back. One thing I came away from it with is a better understanding of what the human mind is capable of. I know exactly what that guy went through and it was not his fault one bit. Ignorance is bliss buddy.

Pretty sure this is called mentally ill.

Anyone who could do that to another human being is just that.

Yes I realize what it says in the article. Hopefully this fool gets the help he needs and is never let into society again.
edit on 23-5-2012 by nightstalker78 because: (no reason given)

People who are mentally ill (those who commit killings) do not belong in society as they are high risk to repeat their crimes. In other words, they should be euthanized. They are on their way to hell anyways, might as well speed up the process.

This has been an interesting thread to watch develop and in most aspects is like the general public response to the case in question.

The part that most people seem to miss, is that a severe, acute medical condition led to the tragedy, schizophrenia.

Several people have, IMHO, confused this condition with another, called, "antisocial personality disorder - ASPD", in its severe form, people are referred to as sociopathic:

"ASPD - Definition By Mayo Clinic staff

Antisocial personality disorder is a type of chronic mental illness in which a person's ways of thinking, perceiving situations and relating to others are abnormal — and destructive.

People with antisocial personality disorder typically have no regard for right and wrong. They may often violate the law and the rights of others, landing in frequent trouble or conflict. They may lie, behave violently, and have drug and alcohol problems. And people with antisocial personality disorder may not be able to fulfill responsibilities to family, work or school.

Antisocial personality disorder is sometimes known as sociopathic personality disorder. A sociopath is a particularly severe form of antisocial personality disorder."

Wikipedia has a good description, I have excerpted the following from there:
" DSM-IVThe Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition (DSM IV-TR), defines antisocial personality disorder (in Axis II Cluster B) as:[1]

A) There is a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others occurring since age 15 years, as indicated by three or more of the following:
1.failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest;
2.deception, as indicated by repeatedly lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure;
3.impulsiveness or failure to plan ahead;
4.irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults;
5.reckless disregard for safety of self or others;
6.consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations;
7.lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another;
B) The individual is at least age 18 years.
C) There is evidence of conduct disorder with onset before age 15 years.
D) The occurrence of antisocial behavior is not exclusively during the course of schizophrenia or a manic episode.
New evidence points to the possibility that children often develop antisocial personality disorder as a result of environmental as well as genetic influence. The individual must be at least 18 years of age to be diagnosed with this disorder (Criterion B), but those commonly diagnosed with ASPD as adults were diagnosed with conduct disorder as children. The prevalence of this disorder is 3% in males and 1% from females, as stated in the DSM IV-TR.

[edit] Further diagnostic considerations[edit] Theodore Millon's subtypesTheodore Millon identified five subtypes of Anti-Social Personality Disorder.[8][9] exhibiting all of the following:

covetous antisocial – variant of the pure pattern where individuals feel that life has not given them their due.
reputation-defending antisocial – including narcissistic features
risk-taking antisocial – including histrionic features
nomadic antisocial – including schizoid, avoidant features
malevolent antisocial – including sadistic, paranoid features.
Elsewhere, Millon differentiates ten subtypes (partially overlapping with the above) - covetous, risk-taking, malevolent, tyrannical, malignant, unprincipled, disingenuous, spineless, explosive, and abrasive - but specifically stresses that "the number 10 is by no means special...Taxonomies may be put forward at levels that are more coarse or more fine-grained"."

My interest in adding science and fact to this thread is to improve the general knowledge of this topic and to support my opinion that the "Greyhound Bus Killer, Mr. Lee" isn't sociopathic/ASPD but instead committed the acts while in a schizophrenic "fugue".

People with severe violent/sadistic APSD, IMHO are incomparably more dangerous and once caught, I'd hope would never be released (think of the antagonists in Silence of the Lambs).

Finally, I saw some errors in the above threads, the facts are that Mr. Lee has been allowed escorted (i.e. restraints and strong men) walks onto the hospital grounds during the past year. A medical team just approved similarly escorted trips outside the hospital, NOT unescorted, or otherwise "lightly" supervised in any conceivable form.

If Mr. Lee was a severe violent/sadistic APSD then I would be strongly opposed, but he isn't and I agree with the medical team's decision.

If you disagree or still feel uncomfortable, please take some time to educate yourself about this subject

What about project blue beem besides the miracle hollagrams what else does it do?

Here is an in depth article about Project Blue Beam and all that it's supposed to do. article
There's a level of steps and here is a small excerpt from the article that pertains to this topic about voices in your head and whether or not it's someone with a legit mental illness or someone with the government in their head:

Artificial Thought & Communication
The advancement of techniques propel us toward the third step in the Blue Beam Project that goes along with the telepathic and electronically augmented two-way communication where ELF, VLF and LF waves will reach each person from within his or her own mind, convincing each of them that their own god is speaking to them from the very depths of their own soul. Such rays from satellites are fed from the memories of computers that have stored massive data about every human on earth, and their languages. The rays will then interlace with their natural thinking to form what we call diffuse artificial thought.

That kind of technology goes into the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s research where the human brain has been compared to a computer. Information is fed in, processed, integrated and then a response is formulated and acted upon. Mind controllers manipulate information the same way a computer for grammar manipulates information. In January 1991, the University of Arizona hosted a conference entitled, 'The NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Current and Emergent Phenomena and Biomolecular Systems.' What does that mean exactly? It means this: We refer to one paper that was delivered at the conference which stands out for its different attitude towards the development under discussion at that time. It was, in effect, a protest and chilling warning to the attending scientists about the potential abuse of their research findings.

It's an interesting article but I'm not finished reading it yet.

You are right. All criminals should be receiving psychiatric care to understand the root of their criminal behavior. Some people have horrible things done to them when they were little and act out later in life because of that. Instead of that person going to jail, they should receive help, counseling & be rehabilitated in a care home. If they can not be rehabilitated then they do truly belong in a jail.

Kind of messed up to think that to him, what he did was correct because his mind determined his reality. Makes you think that you do the same everyday, make correct decisions based on your reality. Thats a talk to have over a few beers
