Girl, 16, Kills Herself After Researching 2012 Doomsday Threads...

A teenager hanged herself after becoming convinced the world would end in 2012 after researching doomsday scenarios on the internet, an inquest heard. Schoolgirl Isabel Taylor, 16, turned to Buddhism after becoming fed up with the 'complications and injustice' of the modern world. But while searching for answers she began researching doomsday scenarios - becoming convinced a nuclear reactor meltdown would end civilisation in the coming months

'She read articles on all different types of things which could make the world end, she read about 15 to 20 articles over the course of 2011 with her best friend. 'The most recent one she read was on sun spots and how if they went wrong it could cause a nuclear reaction.' Increasing numbers of websites devoted to 2012 doomsday scenarios have sprung up online, centred on claims the Mayans believed this is the year the world will end. In France a tiny village named Bugarach has seen visits from doomsday devotees, claiming it will survive any apocalypse event

I thought this was worth bringing to attention the dangers of taking these theories to the extreme.

I have been guilty of going online and researching these things and have even had a very strong urge or even addiction to the doom on the net.

Fact is that it does indeed affect your real offline world.. I found myself getting anxious, moody and thinking what the point of it all was, then finding a way to feed more doom into my life, and still come here every day to get my news, but I learnt after doing my own research, not to take these things too seriously..

RIP Isabel... Your heart was too beautiful for this world..

However...

I did notice in the comments section of the article the way that conspiracy theorists was given the blame for this girls death.. And the comments were quite vehement...

Truth is no conspiracy theorist put the rope around this girls neck.. She did it herself and her family.. But still, a shame... She may even have had an account here..

Doomsday research was one of the factors...wonder what the others were?

Anyway...should make some feel bad!

I have no sympathy for this girl. She seemed to not use any critical thinking, you can't just believe everything you read about these things, you should take everything with a pinch of salt. If you thought the world was going to end, and was so certain that you would hang yourself, then why would you kill yourself anyway? Why not just die when the world ends? At least then there is a chance that you would survive because it's not true (personaly, im not a 2012 believer).

No doubt people will jump on the bandwagon and blame people here and blame people there, but the fact is that there if no one to blame, it is her fault, no one elses. I may sound like a horrid person, or someone lacking in compasion, but in all seriousness, she did it, and it was no one elses fault.

This is very sad.

What is sad is her parents or friends weren't there when she needed someone.

Don't blame me for your actions.

So the (supposed) end of the world is coming and - you off yourself? What the hell kind of sense does that make? Yeah, the world sucks, but go buy yourself a cheeseburger and feel better about things. And if you're only thinking about killing yourself because the end of the world's coming - why not just wait?

I think this story is wrong, and she probably just did it - tragically - because the world got her down. The other argument never makes any sense to me, since THEN doesn't really have a whole lot to do with NOW. Now, people who are about to go to prison, I can understand killing themselves. But someone reading about the end of the world? Well NEWS FLASH - you're going to die someday anyway, and eventually the entire universe will die a heat death.

I guess under that same reasoning, we might as well ALL go off ourselves now.

There may be more to this than meets the eye I think... We have a very clever and caring girl who was a campaigner , was at college so was planning for her future...

I don't your a horrid person, but here is obviously other contributing factors. People in their right minds don't just kill themselves because they get scared. I definitely do not agree with the people that will defend her by blaming her parents, the internet, or conspiracy theorists. This is her fault and her responsibility as is every suicide.

Why would you kill yourself?

If I was as certain as the girl, that the world was gonna end, I would want to stick around for the show.

After all, it would be a once in a lifeti.......spiecies event.

I started wondering the same thing. It's like someone on death row committing suicide.

I'm actually taking fewer risks because I want to be around on Dec. 21st.

Yeah! That's kind of how I look at it - or at least wait until some sort of real pain or negative effect from it begins. Otherwise, this is the dumbest thing to blame it on in my opinion.

And I promise this - take away all the conspiracy websites, all the prophecies, everything - and people will STILL have their own tragedies, and STILL be able to figure out there's something very wrong with the way our world works, and will STILL get sad - and take their own lives.

ah well if you kill yourself then its obvious that the gene pool doesn't want you to procreate.

Suicide is such a strong action that you really have to have much major problems in your life (plus something wrong in your brain) to do such a thing.

If it was really all that bad, pretty much every ATS member would off themselves.

I think that you are right that this will shut down ATS and other sites as this is clearly a false flag against us by using this sad young girls death. Looks like we may need to go underground and have our own secret society. They are using her death to frame us people and I don't like what will happen next. RIP Huni x

i'm guessing there was some sort of underlying depression or other mental health issues involved. It is sad when any one loses there life, it is less sad i must admit when the person takes it themselves without regard for there family or friends. I send my deepest respect to her family and friends in there time of loss and grief.

I warned you all this was going to happen. 2012ers run around treating this whole thing like a game. They need to start realizing that their words do have an impact on the world. While it is most likely true that this girl had other problems going on the fact that 2012 theories pushed her over the edge should give everyone on here pause. To all the people that have been pushing doomsday theories I hope you feel some guilt over this tragedy you helped contribute to. Hopefully that this is the wake up call you need to realize this is not a game and that what is said on here can indeed have an effect on the real world.
