I think the idea has merit. Sometimes when I see a post I personally find totally ridiculous, and yet it has, what seems to me, an inordinate amount of stars (or flags), i would like to know who it is who is starring all of those.

Maybe just rolling the curser over each individual star would give you a clickable name/link?

I think it might help verify who the heck stars and flags some of these more questionable threads. (talking about ones that receive 50-100+ stars, etc.) It's such an easy way to game the system here, it seems it might help in seeing any patterns, etc.

I'm a rude, obnoxious conservative.

Yet I occasionally will star or flag a liberal (damned commie pinko!) post or thread.

I like being. . . anonymouse!

Yeah...what beezer said....^^^

I think if would be a fast track to taking a thread off-topic. There would be those who feel compelled to thank everyone who starred them, and in doing so, agreed with them. I can see it turning into school yard antics of who's more popular with whom.

Keep things as they are. JMOHO...

What if you could only see who starred your own posts, but not others?

Otherwise I'd rather keep them anon.

I could see it more of people who like to insult, would not only be calling people that post names, but also insulting anyone that handed a star to someone they disagree with.

"Look at these 5 morons who are stupid enough to star this drivel!"
"Blah and blah must be shills! Look at the post they starred!"

And such nonesense

I never thought of it that way. You are correct, would be like a bacon buffet to Trolls....

The flip side of that is that if we knew who starred some posts (like a team that stars a certain persons every post whether right or wrong) maybe the stars would decrease in the light of day

Stars are worthless... literally... you can't spend them on anything

Though I was told years ago that if you got 100,000 stars you got a pink Cadilac

Dump em and keep the flags

But wouldn't the fact that YOU starred something not traditionally 'conservative' give that idea more reason for others to give pause and consider the idea? After all, that's what many of us use the star system for. To highlight points or ideas we agree with or think has some value to the conversation.

whos to say they are right or wrong
and the person starring believes it is wrong
but still stars it???

it would open a portal to a bacon buffet for trolls

Exactly. I think this would highlight some very interesting behavior, and would likely put an end to ghost accounts used to prop up bogus threads.

That seems kinda crazy. Why would someone star a post they disagree with?

Yes, but such behavior is already considered 'against the rules'. And is generally dealt with when important.

I think it is a terrible idea.

TPTB already knows who the trouble makers are, now we want to give up their fans aswell?

If it aint broken, dont fix it.

People often time point out that they have flagged and/or starred a post within their own comment, I guess they want people to know. I can only assume that many people would prefer that their flags were posted anonymously, and I would forego the flagging of posts if it were to be recorded. The only benefit would be the ability to gauge someone's ideolgies, and if my own is not blatantly obvious by the message rendered in my responses, I would prefer for it to stay that way.

I could post many examples of posts that are starred simply because its a friend, but to do that I would need to name names, and that wouldn't be cool

Just to bolster their favorite players position in the ranks
Easy enough to spot if you pay attention

One other factor is you will see someone make an ad hominem attack against someone... then that posts gets many stars. It would be cool to see who supports those attacks

Still not enough to buy a T-shirt
though I did get a hat once before the stars where around

ATS worked fine without them once upon a time

The Old WATS system was better IMO based on actual awards and applauses

Absolutely. I think being able to see the pattern of who stars and flags what posts (especially the flags) would be most insightful. Beyond being able to identify the obvious cliques of frequent posters on all sides of the spectrum, it would identify what I and many others suspect is a puppet army of 'members' who exist only to be awakened periodically to upvote a particular meme being perpetuated by one party or interest or another.

In that vein, it makes sense that such a suggestion would be greeted with such hostility by certain demographics. they likely stand to lose something in the process.

I mean, if you are starring or flagging something, the purpose is to highlight the idea as worthy of others attention, right? Why not be able to attach your 'name' (which is still likely rather as anonymous as you want it to be) to it?

I disagree. Like the other poster, I consider them an internal thread self-regulating voting system. lol Seriously, they assist in good threads with lots of debates. It helps navigate visually and quickly the direction the thread is going.
