I think it would add to the experience here to be able to see who starred a particular post or flagged a particular thread. It may also cause folks to think a bit before doing one of these actions, knowing that it would be made public. I think this would have the effect of more thoughtfulness and value in the star/flag system.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I like the idea. I just wonder how it would be implemented.

Do you have any idea how this would work? Like how would you view who starred and flagged? A drop down list?

A separate link to a page with a list?

Just thinking out loud here.

Quite ironic coming from you " AnonymousCitizen"

I like to keep who I flag and star for myself. And If I find myself really agreeing on something i'l comment on that.

I always thought it was the content (what we write) that gets starred and flagged, not the Anonymous Poster

that thought personified, you have a point that is moot

Tie it into the "this post" link.

because this post deserves one

You know that's a damn good point and a very good way of looking at it.

Separating the poster from the postings is a really good way at getting your content. I read things from members that I don't get along with all the time that I flag and star, even applaud.

I had not thought of that aspect. Knowing who flags and stars the content could lead to some issues like board gangs etc..

Now I'm not sure how I feel

No...it would just make division standard practice...no...people should be able to voice their opinion in silent majority....deal with it or leave....

I have an even better idea .... get rid of those damn stars.
Keep the flags. They are useful.
But those freakn' stars are nothing more than people rewarding others who think like them.
Rewards for group think amongst bad posters ....
And I've seen tons of stars going onto absolutely stupid (and wrong) posts ....

Dump the stars. PLEASE ...

When I star and flag, it is for rewarding someones hard work, and does not mean I necessarily share the same view. If you saw how I star and flag, it would often appear to contradict my posts.

I'm a rude, obnoxious conservative.

Yet I occasionally will star or flag a liberal (damned commie pinko!) post or thread.

I like being. . . anonymouse!

I agree. Star for you!

I don't want everyone knowing who and what I star and flag. There's already enough bullies who attack individuals just for posting in a controversial thread, little alone getting attacked for stars and flags.

I see that this forum already keeps track of it internally, since one can never star the same post twice. I don't see any harm in making this information public.

Here's my attempt at an unobtrusive interface with hyperlinks.

a nazi in new clothes....

I hope the new clothes are just as spiffy as their the old uniforms were. That was the only cool part, in my opinion, that the Nazis had.

No.
Don't like it, don't want it.
I equate it to voting, and if The Dos Amigos want to know (which they do), it's no big deal. But if others find out or it becomes forum info, there will be a sharp reduction. This will reduce the number of hits, and viewers will be less inclined to read the thread. This would be counter intuitive to the way that ATS builds revenue. If I want to tell someone that I star and flagged them, they will see SnF in my post.
IMHO

This prettymuch sums it up nicely for me.

I thought ATS used to show "threads I flagged" in profile? Was that removed?
