My favorite thus far from Sheriff Joe is when the county looked to cut his budget and he went after EVERYBODY...even filing a federal racketeering charge against the WHOLE COUNTY.

Yes we do as registered American citizens. They don't until they follow the process to be in the US legally.

When that process is streamlined and made affordable for the very poor, then more people will use it.

Until then, you will have people, often with nothing to their name, trying to make it across to what they perceive as a better life.

I remember in '08 during the election Joe had an opponent that was gaining just a little bit of traction. That opponents son was suddenly arrested by MCSO in some murder investigation. As soon as the opponent dropped out new evidence emerged that exonerated his son. Convenient, eh?

There are two problems with this:
1)You cannot know they are illegal by looking at them. Thus, you do not know if they are a registered american citizen. Therefore, it is a violation of civil rights to profile in this way.

and

2)We hold foreign 'terrorists' to our laws, even though they are not american citizens. Seems a bit of a double standard, doesnt it?

Obama should focus on making the process easier for people to make a better life for themselves. Everything cost money and I don't want to say the process is broken because there is a cost assocaited with becoming a US citizen, but he is always preaching on the poor, so let's make the illegals, legal by making it possible for them and then they can start paying taxes like the rest of us.

That, my friend, is the real question. My first solution is to levy $10 million in fines against ANY company found employing anyone who is undocumented. Take away the incentive for these companies, they will stop hiring them. Stop hiring them, and they have no choice but to get documented if they want to work.

It seems to me this topic always focuses on the PEOPLE, and not the COMPANIES. But the fact of the matter is, corporations facilitate illegal immigration more than any other factor. THAT is where it needs to start.

I have nothing against the people who are here illegally except they are here illegally. So many Americans are out of work, yet there are millions of illegals with jobs and none of that money is taxed so it's a loss two fold. One for the unemployed citizens and two for government revenue.

so I have to ask, why is your issue with the people, and not the companies hiring them? Afterall, the companies are the ones saving money on it, avoiding taxes, and increasing their profits.

I've spent plenty of time discussing this with people who refused to blame the corporations demanding this cheap labor.

You hit the nail right on the head. Focus on the companies that are paying for these people to work in their factories. Maybe the companies are fined the fee for these people to become citizens and not spend the money to deport them. Or better yet, if they have to deport them make the companies pay the wages of the border patrol officers. They will find that it's just cheaper to bring these people in, help them become citizens and then they can have a better life.
