If there was a pill to kill all your sexual desire, would you take it?

I would. I consider sexuality to be perhaps the biggest time-and-energy waster on planet earth. Imagine how much people could accomplish if their energy was not wasted on such stupid pursuits.

Sexuality is the cause of endless conflicts, sorrow, depression, broken hearts, anger, confusion, and so on. It would be best if humanity eventually learned to remove sexual appetite from the species, through genetic engineering, say, or through pills or other medical means. People would still have children, but they would do so as the result of rational planning, not blind lust.

Does anyone else feel the way I do?

You frighten me. Seriously.

Sex is one of the very few things that make life on this miserable planet worth living.

Umm... you do know that sexual desire is the cause of reproduction right? You do want the continuation of the human race right? I can understand that sexual desire is very distracting to say the least, but to do away with it would doom us.

Although Sexual activities are merely actions made to perpetuate our species on this planet, they're also a dangerous activity that could literally kill you. Random electrical discharges go through the neurons and the nervous system, your pulse spikes randomly and blood pressure becomes uncontrollable, your muscles swell, you start sweating...

What's wrong with me? Sex is great! I'm gonna go call my girlfriend!

maybe if i was locked alone in a bunker for a long time or something it might be good to have a stock of that

You can have your pill as long as its a bright comedy color so everyone can see who gets horny riding the bus

no, sexual energy is essential. it can be transformed into higher forms of thought if directed away from lust and sensational based desire

When married to my 2nd wife I would have slipped HER the pill

But you don't need a pill if your a man to do this, just get your nads chopped off.
Myself no I wouldn't take the pill my 3rd wife is much more desirable

No I have to disagree about sex being a waste. I would not take any such pill, but then again I live with my girlfriend.
So ya know...

I am also getting about a 3.8 in college, so I don't think It's distracting my true potential either. I agree that we all need to grow up and do better on this earth, but sex should be part of that.
Without desire what should motivate us to reproduce? Or are you one of those.. "people are evil and there's too many of them" kinds??

Reading over some of your other posts I realize you are an idealist, and maybe not enough people are going after your ideals. I am in that same boat. I dislike most people, and I think most people are wasting their time, and creating a world I don't like. AT the some time I love everyone, and it is all going to get better and worse and better as we go.

Sex is awesome though.

As someone that dislikes sex, I most certainly would.

However, only if that pill did not kill romanticism.

You only think that because of the desire within you. It's like a person with an itch being asked if they would like to never have to scratch that itch again. If the person has always had the itch, the possibility of not being able to scratch it is terrifying, but if the itch itself is removed, it becomes a moot point.

sex is in its purest state a total animal thing
the art of containing yourself is a human thing
the art of sex is an indian tantric thing (kama sutra)
me and my girl work on the 'art',not the animal.
hope you didnt have a bad experience
it sux when someone is hounding you for a quick piece, boy or girl!

It sounds like your not getting enough.... Sex is great. You wish for a clinical future? Thats what you would get without sexuality. You might as well do away with emotion all together.

Hm. How do I put this delicately? It seems to me somebody in this thread might need an itch or two scratched. Not that I'm naming names or pointing fingers, mind you. Just a hunch I get from a certain tone...

Romanticism is also a delusion.

The world has never before needed clear-headedness the way it does now.

I am sorry, but I love not only the sexual desire, but also the intimacy involved in sexual relations. I enjoy being able to explore both my own and my partners desires in a way that is not only rewarding physically, but also emotionally and spiritually. I think if you gave up this desire you would never fully experience the purpose of having an intimate relationship with another person.

To answer your question, no I would not be willing to, or want to for that matter take a sexual suppression drug.
