In early September 2005, Hellyer made international headlines by publicly announcing that he believed some UFOs were of extraterrestrial origin. On 25 September 2005, he was an invited speaker at an exopolitics conference in Toronto, where he told the audience that he had seen a UFO one night with his late wife and some friends. He said that though he discounted the experience at the time, he had kept an open mind to it. He said that he started taking the issue much more seriously after watching ABC News' "Peter Jennings Reports UFOs: Seeing is Believing" special in February 2005.
Watching Jennings' report prompted Hellyer to finally read U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Philip J. Corso's book The Day After Roswell about the Roswell crash Incident which had been sitting on his shelf for some time.
Hellyer told the Toronto audience that he later spoke to a retired Air Force General who confirmed the accuracy of the information in the book

I'm fine with everything... well most of it... if that "clean energy" means I cant have 100hp per litre on my car's engine while revving at 10,500 rpm, then I will not welcome it - just think of a way of making it free or cheaper instead of clean... the planet is NOT in danger just because we have cars with personality.
Just let the freakin petrol engine alone.

In the years since "Day After..." was released, Corso's claims have been thoroughly discredited. Suspicious that an "Air Force general" would tell him the book is accurate.
Besides, I talked to a former Air Force general who said none of Hellyer's claims are true. See how easy that is?

Hey, thanks for the vote of confidence in my intelligence. Nice bait, but I are not in the mood to bite and engage though you shot a low nameless site blow. I am a skeptic, and I was hoping someone would comment on one thing he brought up, as people in the UFO world seem to find him credible.
