When you immigrate to another country, you do as they do. This often means living certain aspects of your culture behind. I've done it and I know of many others who have also done it. If you're not ready/willing to do this, then you should stay in the country which caters to your culture.

Incorrect. People can excercise their rights freely until they start to infringe upon the rights of others.

Then some sort of balancing of rights must occur.

And what right has the right to wear religious clothing that covers the face infringed upon? The right to know what someone looks like? Last time I checked that wasn't a right.

The right for a state authority to be able identify you, well where I come from the state has no right to demand an ID from you (unless of course you are operating a motor vehicle). But reagdless you bring up a good point which I agree with you on that 'some sort of balancing must occur" I think that women covering there faces should have to unveil themselves to authority figures and present them with an ID if that said state requires people to carry ID (which IMHO is authoritarian). I agree with you because its logical, but a full on ban is completely illogical and immoral.

When in Rome...

Excuse my ignorance, but are you saying this because you believe that people from one nation that move to another nation should conform to that nations culture?

If so than I disagree, cultures develop by merging with other cultures. No culture is unique or immortal they will all be replaced. It doesn't matter where I moved I would still act and dress the way I want to, not the way people say or expect I have to, thats the great thing about freedom.

The right to see someone's face when they can see yours.

Yet you appear happy to allow Muslim men to dictate that women must wear the burqa.

Appearances can be deceiving .

Quran tells women to cover themselves and leaves the degree of this covering to the individual concerned .

Perhaps you need to make a friend with a burqa wearing woman and ask her directly how this ban you are proposing will effect her .

Ok, then what about facial hair? I can grow a thick enough beard that you could not tell who I was if I shaved immediately after you saw me with the beard.

And if you had that beard when your passport picture was taken, then shaved it off, you would be required to have a new passport picture taken.

The quran doesn't mention the burqa. At all. It is Arabic culture, not Islam.

The burqa is not a religious issue, it is a cultural one.

I know many Muslim women - who don't wear a burqa.

On the other hand, how am I susposed to 'make a friend with a burqa wearing woman' to ask her opinion?

The whole point of women wearing a burqa is to keep her away from other men...

Or has that fact passed you by?

Are you serious because I dont think you are. If that's the case Halloween and masquerade balls are prett much dead.

No I am under no obligation to show my face to you in any way an authority figure maybe but not you, I could walk around all day with my hands covering my mouth and nose screaming "AH HA you don't know who I am! You don't know what my nose is shaped like!" as long as I am not hurting someone the most i would be asked is to leave and stop screaming at people.

No it only says to dress modestly, and they take it to the absolute extreme. Which again
is their right to do. There is actually a huge debate within the realm of Muslim scholars weather the wearing of the Niqāb is mandatory under Sharia law.

Where in the Torah does it mention that male Jews have to where a Kippah, it doesn't. But is does say that they must cover there head while praying. But you go and knock a Jewish guys hat off while he is walking down the street, he wont think you are dissing his countries culture.

The koran says dress modestly. It doesn't say wear a black sheet from head to toe.

That is Arabic culture. Not Islam.

Next time when you see a burqa wearing women , approach them and ask them the question in a direct and honest fashion .
Just because these women wear burqa doesn't mean that they are not going to talk to you .
Perhaps " making friends " with burqa wearing women have different meaning for you . I am not saying hang out with them .
Simply put they would not want to hang out with men in general anyhow and I respect that this is their decision and the expression of this decision is reflected on their chocie of clothing
I have no trouble talking to Burqa wearing women in a respectfull manner and nor should you .
At least you are able to differentiate between " Cultural " and " Religious " practices , there is still hope for you I guess .

One last thing , I am a muslim .

sounds to me (and this isnt implying all) many of you brits are incredibly racist towards immigrants. america has probably two - three times the muslim population you do, and we care very little that they are here (this isnt speaking about the rednecks. this is speaking about the average american). deal with it. we have to deal with illegal mexicans, you can deal with muslims bringing culture to your island.

Lol what can I say Muslims are missing out

Still they have a right to choose what to believe and what to wear, I agree with you that some women are forced by their husbands and governments to wear these things. But most of the women who dress like this believe that it is the most modest way to dress. And it is up to them whether or not they choose to stop or continue doing so, not the state or a majority of disgruntled subjects.

The koran says dress modestly. It doesn't say wear a black sheet from head to toe.

No it doesn't, but again they have incorporated it into their religion under the guise (if you will) of modesty, all in all its just another form of control. I don't agree with it, but as long as people choose to follow it then that is their choice and I will respect it.

I know this is a little apples to oranges, but have you ever seen a LDS (Mormon) girl in a mini skirt? If so tell me because I have no and I was in that Church for most of my life, sure they wouldn't get stoned you if you wore one but you sure would have that judgmental eye on your back for many years to come.

Ah, the old 'all cultures are equal' chestnut.

• Arabs prefer Arab culture- That makes them Arab.

• Chinese people prefer Chinese culture. That makes them Chinese.

• Europeans prefer European culture. That makes them racist.

You, my good man, are a misguided apologist for political correct moral equivalency.

Europe has a population larger than the USA yet

The US Muslim population is less than 1% (about 0.8%) of the US population

while in Europe 6% (UK 5% +) of the population is Muslim.

en.wikipedia.org...

So by both absolute and relative measures, Europe and the UK has between 6 to 12 times as many Muslims as the USA.

Yet you come on here telling me that the USA has 2 to 3 times the Muslim population as Europe!

You wouldn't only have a tenuous grasp of the facts you assume you know, by any chance?

I have known a Mormon girl. While she didn't wear a mini-skirt, otherwise she dressed normally.

She didn't wear a black sheet from head to toe.

To be fair, most Europeans are not too keen on immigrants who choose to integrate in the following manner
