I'm just facetiously demonstrating what sort of ridiculous nonsense you can spout about a religion if you're unfamiliar with how it is lived, and instead pick a few quotes out of context from its book.

edit: then change "christianity" to "judaism" in my first post and the point stands

Ah! It's hard to tell sometimes. My apologies.

After reading the OP and all the comments that follow there was only one answer that came to thought:

Lyrics to Imagine :

(by John Lennon)

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

lyric

Did you know that the stoning to death of homosexuals is a basic teaching of christianity? Pretty soon the world will be engulfed in war between christians wielding rocks and the gays.

Stoning people was Hebrew tradition. Christianity started after that, you know when Jesus challenged the towns people who had not sinned to cast the first stone, but then what's so important about knowing what you are talking about anyway?

Imagine socialism. It's not hard to do, it's in our faces every day since Obama got elected. Imagine there's no countries? That's a plea for a One World Govt and Borderless society if I ever heard one. Oh wait he was an anarchist.

I am distressed that this thread ended up making it to the front page. It is something that I should not have written.

I am also disturbed by the amount of groupthink that is evident in the massive starring, of virtually every post in this thread. I suspect that there is a group of conservatives, who very much want to ensure that this type of opinion is promoted. I apologise for contributing to their agenda.

So you are baiting and trolling and now you want to apologize. Have you considered applying at the WH?

I dont think the word conservative is appropriate. Most muslims that are religious and most religious people are pretty conservative.

Just admit you don't know what you are talking about and it will be alright. No one will hold it against you. Or you could even pretend that Islam equals both Christianity and Judaism because they are all three branches from the same tree.

My point is that if you go digging about in the Quran for verses about Jihad and killing the nobelievers, perhaps the results will be similar to my obviously sarcastic suggestion that Jews are out to murder homosexuals with rocks. Thanks for playing.

NO, you said it was Christianity stoning homosexuals. Did you even catch your own mistake? I bet you didn't even know that Archangel Gabriel is said to have dictated the Quran.

Well, if you take a quote out of context from the Christian bible, it's pretty clearly calling for the stoning of homosexuals. Don't you see how this ignorant sort of reading doesn't actually tell you anything about a given religion? That's kinda my point.

Which quote are you referring to? Please, if you are going to insist that Christians stoned homosexuals, please give us the particular verse. I provided the basis for Christians NOT stoning people. I did neglect to provide the exact verse so here it is
KJV

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

bible.cc...

To be fair, maybe the issue here is discerning where Christianity split off from Judaism. Or you are really saying that we shouldn't take the Hadith out of context.

You really don't get it. I'm not arguing that Christians stone homosexuals, or that they're even mandated to (although, of course, this sort of thing does happen in America)

There are people who go picking through the Quran, and they find a verse about killing infidels, and hold it up as evidence that Islam is barbaric and terroristic by nature and all muslisms are therefore terrorists.

You can do the same thing with Judaism, or Christianity even (to the extent that the Bible contains the Torah as the Old Testament) by taking verses out of context.

I'm specifically giving an example of a fallacious argument and you're arguing with it. Stop.

It's really sad when thinly-veiled racism takes precedence here at ATS.

You can attack Muslims all you want but I guarantee you (and I'll bet the #ing bank on it too!) that Christians have stirred up far more # over the years than their Muslim brethren.

After all, it's provocative, taboo, etc to point out the similarities between Christian and Muslim extremists.

They're all..one and the same in my book.

I would agree there is some pretty crazy stuff in the OT that no one does today, except for perhaps a lone wolf person who is perhaps a bit out of step with the law in the US.... I have personally never heard a priest discuss stoning people from the pulpit.
