Koch brothers: secretive billionaires to launch vast database with 2012 in mind

David and Charles Koch, oil tycoons with strong right-wing views and connections, look set to tighten their grip on US politics

The secretive oil billionaires the Koch brothers are close to launching a nationwide database connecting millions of Americans who share their anti-government and libertarian views, a move that will further enhance the tycoons' political influence and that could prove significant in next year's presidential election.

The database will give concrete form to the vast network of alliances that David and Charles Koch have cultivated over the past 20 years on the right of US politics. The brothers, whose personal wealth has been put at $25bn each, were a major force behind the creation of the tea party movement and enjoy close ties to leading conservative politicians, financiers, business people, media figures and US supreme court judges.

The voter file was set up by the Kochs 18 months ago with $2.5m of their seed money, and is being developed by a hand-picked team of the brothers' advisers. It has been given the name Themis, after the Greek goddess who imposes divine order on human affairs.

In classic Koch style, the project is being conducted in great secrecy. Karl Crow, a Washington-based lawyer and Koch adviser who is leading the development, did not respond to requests for comment. Nor did media representatives for Koch Industries, the brothers' global energy company based in Wichita, Kansas.

But a member of a Koch affiliate organisation who is a specialist in the political uses of new technology and who is familiar with Themis said the project was in the final preparatory stages. Asking not to be named, he said: "They are doing a lot of analysis and testing. Finally they're getting Themis off the ground."

The database will bring together information from a plethora of right-wing groups, tea party organisations and conservative-leaning thinktanks. Each one has valuable data on their membership – including personal email addresses and phone numbers, as well as more general information useful to political campaign strategists such as occupation, income bracket and so on.

By pooling the information, the hope is to create a data resource that is far more potent than the sum of its parts. Themis will in effect become an electoral roll of right-wing America, allowing the Koch brothers to further enhance their power base in a way that is sympathetic to, but wholly independent of, the Republican party.

"This will take time to fully realise, but it has the potential to become a very powerful tool in 2012 and beyond," said the new technology specialist.

...

Now we can witness, as a couple of CORRUPT ELITES, hijack politics and half the populace, playing to peoples' fears of government in order to cement their own brand of tyrannical right-wing ideology. In the dystopia of the Kochs, where there is a vacuum of GOVERNMENT OPPRESSION there will be provided ample MARKET OPPRESSION and the ELIMINATION OF any semblance of Democracy, representation, protection of humans/workers/ecosystems/species/, or peoples' rights. Who needs taxes when you've got wage-slaves, debt/credit systems, Capitalism unchained, worship of money, commodification/privatization of every aspect of our lives, and a market society of unchecked/infinite exploitation/consumption? When Academi (formerly Blackwater>Xe) is roaming the streets as hired merc thugs instead of the police... are you really gonna get on your knees and kiss the "free"-market's boots?

Whether it's government or markets, we cannot allow these naive, corrupt, elite tyrants to shuffle the decks of enslavement/hierarchy to maintain control and keep the masses chained. The kochs present a terrible alternative to state-society, they are a bastardization of anti-government ideology, the kind that true activists/freedom fighters/dissidents/anarchists despise and fight against. Whether you are right or left-wing, keep two keen eyes on the kochs' co-opting of our politics and resist them, they are snakes and will use your beliefs to convince you to work naively against your own best interests. They want us divided against each other while they watch from afar, sipping champagne and using their billions to toy with our world.

Maybe you would like to explain why you think they are THAT bad?
Have they said what they are planning on doing when they have all the Aces in their hands?

Once the database is online, I'll be looking forward to the Anonymous hack that is certain to follow!

The Koch Brothers are some of the most influential people in politics. They are the political masterminds who funded the astroturfing of the teaparty movement. They also backed the Bush family, during 2000 and 2004. They make and break politicians. I read somewhere that they were either the first, or second largest privately owned non-traded companies in the U.S. They're very rich men, and I wouldn't doubt they have their fingers in quite a few pies. They're the power behind the throne, so to speak. What I'd give for a fraction of their net-worth...

I think you will find that this is a catch up move to compete with the alreadyexisting database of theObama machine, and of course the K bros are just small time, compared to the mega billionaire support for the Dems and Obama.

Dems or Republicans it's all the same. Don't blame them, we're all essentially corrupt, and would sell out for the amount that these folks are paid to sell out. And the Kochs can afford to bribe half the senate to see their point of view, with enough left over to bribe Obama, Rick Perry, Michelle Bachman, and a hundred other politicians. Only one of them that I think shoots straight is Ron Paul, but then again, I wouldn't be surprised if the Koch brothers had some sort of funding going to them. You know the Kochs and the Bush family are related by marriage? Look it up. Dorothy Bush Koch. Keep following the money. Lord knows there's a lot of it.

The FEMA camps are one of the fake, distraction conspiracies. The Koch Brothers are very real, and very powerful. FEMA cleans up after hurricanes. The Koch brothers rig democracies. I see nothing that has to do with FEMA related to the Kochs.

This is seriously the most important news item I've ever read. Come on everybody, wake up!

I mean like woh a database. That is like, so informational. Pretty scary.

I am so scared now. Everybody get scared.

This could like, actually matter in some way to your life, because after all, it's a database, and they will have the only one, ever.

Never before have rich jerks manipulated politics. Nobody is aware of these guys, it's crazy. The media never talks about them either. I mean seriously, if you do a google search, you won't find anything about them, it's like nobody is like, awake.

Oh please oh please, get scared everybody, and do the only thing that can save us from the Koch brothers and their database:

support Obama!

Try not to dwell on how much his Presidency has disappointed you.

All the lies, all the playing on your deepest most sincere hopes and fears, we'd like you to forget all that as the next election gets closer.

That's all not important anymore. What's important is that the Koch brothers have or will soon have a database.

This is the reason. It all makes sense now. He had to lie. He had to disappoint everybody. He's trying to stop the Koch brothers from databasing.

What is databasing? I wish I could tell you. It's so heinous they can't put it in the dictionary even.

If you really believed in him back in 2008, it's true that for the rest of your entire life, there will most likely never be a politician who disappoints you as much as Obama has disappointed you.

Suck it up. Fall in line. Put on a smile and pretend it doesn't hurt. Give him your payday money again too.

I can't stress enough how informational and organizational databases are. Are those big words? Sure they are. But if you know what they mean, you know how scared you should be.

For those who don't know what they mean, I will just tell you how scared you need to be. Be really scared.

In summary: give Obama your money, be sure to show up to vote for him in about a year, and in the mean time, pretend to be happy about it, and spread the word about the lurking menace called databases.

Ok wait I'm not done. I didn't want to scare anybody, but I really think you all should be terrified and I want you to know this: databases eat people. Obama knows how to stop them, but he needs your help.

How? I can't be very specific. Just know that every time you send Obama $20, it prevents the Koch brothers database from eating a kid.

Ok I have to go give more money to Obama, I hope you will too now. Right now. And in the mean time, try not to be completely terrified even though you should be, because Obama can save us, and supporting him really matters.

Exactly. Ron Paul is not part of the establishment - all the more reason to support him and not the cronies being propped up by scumbags like the Koch-heads.

That's what Paul SAYS, but what he says and what he actually is are two different things. I remember Obama saying all the right things, and then it's meet the new boss, same as the old one. I like what Ron Paul says now, but you show me a politician that holds true to all his campaign promises, and I'll show you a unicorn.

Either the tea party was astroturfing founded by the Koch brothers or it became infiltrated afterwards. The far-right does not like the center-right so it was a way to make america go more right. Money equals influence!

The republicans have been disgraced and discredited by Bush and Cheney so what better way to revitalise the right by introducing "the tea party". Don't believe Ron Paul or any right winger that wants a smaller government by cutting down on social services; it simply shows their utter contempt for the hard working middle class and they are the same people who like to bash unions-who protect the workforce by collective bargaining in wages and safety.

The right wants wealth accumulation by reduction of taxes, slack enviromental laws and corporate imperialism to spread rampant throughout the undeveloped world by keeping tariffs low. They are wall street cheerleaders and all have their greedy hands in insider trading scandals investing millions or billions at any given time. They don't even call their stock broker as computerised trading is the norm.

Oppose the right in any way, shape or form possible. They will introduce more slavery!

Yeah, but in this country, even the left is just moderate right wing at this point. Vote for a third party if you think it'll help. It wont, but it's a nice sentiment atleast.

I always enjoy a good Koch Konspiracy. This is the first time I ever heard them being described as libertarian. Oil tycoons are libertarian now? Since when?

Too much of a threat to the equally if not more powerful tool of the Rotchschilds, Mr Soros, the billionaire financier who owns the Democrat Party these days and pumps money into Media Matters and MoveOn Center for American Progress and others.
Funny, I never hear you complaining about Soros' ability to throw elections.
