Welcome to ATS curious, personally I have found more on ATS about anonymous than you ever hear on the news channels, in fact I would say I find 95% at least of all new world news on here than I do watching tv news, in time you will hopefully be able to say the same

That's the whole reason I signed up. My question really has been answered. I was just wondering if they were common. Some of you are right I could of, should of, used google but it doesn't mean you need to be so aggravated about it. It doesn't take several people to tell me I'm wrong or have made a mistake. But thanks to those who have answered my question. I'm having trouble figuring out whether they are doing things for the benefit of the people or just for themselves. As a curious person I will look in to it.

This little beauty gave me a laugh

''HB Gary boasted they would expose Anonymous. The response was swift anonymous took down their website, stole thousands of emails and posed them on the internet, the CEO resigned''

There are some people who think Anonymous may be run by the CIA. The theory behind this is that they pose a threat to internet security which will require governments to have more control over the internet to "keep us safe".

I don't understand much about hacking, but when they take out someone like HB Gary, many will feel something needs to be done about them.

But the general message they present seems to good for the average person. But that is how the CIA work. Personally, I'm right on the fence when it comes to them, but I do enjoy their videos.

Yes. Just in the space of me starting this thread I've found out about the CIA theories around them. And that's the hard thing about conspiracies eh? You always find yourself in the middle of a balanced see saw. Just a euphemism I thought might help explain

Well I must have never seemed to catch them. They seem very serious. Do people generally support them? Excluding Gov't.

They've been around for 5 years.

And no, only a minority of people support them because the majority don't know of them plus those who do know who they are fit into two camps:

* those who cheer and support everything they do
* those who would like to support them but find some of their activities unethical and a danger to the low level people in companies and police forces who could see a retaliation for the things their bosses are being punished for

The group Anonymous are my idols, they stand up to a specific cause for the government, and they know what they are talking about. I am glad that they have the guts to stand up against the biggest nations of the world who are imposing imperialism on the people. I recently heard that they hacked into the credit cards of high profile elites and are going to donate the extra money they make to charity. That is one hell of an idea lol.

Can someone post some links to ATS threads, so to educate new dude. I would but Im browsing from my phone right now.

Let him educate himself by reading the threads, and maybe his own follow up research. Don't mock him. Were not all elitest information hounds.

There are alot of opinions on anonymous, OP. I suggest you decide for yourself what their intentions may be. Welcome to ATS. Happy hunting.

Haha. Well honestly I have never heard of them before. I know about wiki leaks and Julian Assange but these guys I've never come across. I do watch the news 2 -3 times a week so maybe by chance I miss the stories about them eh?

I think it's the data sources you use.

Generally, real political movements get no press, especially if they are in opposition or threaten the TPTB.

I was involved in the foundation of the Maori Party (& i'm Pakeha) previous to them winning that first election. At the time, there was considerable effort in getting some sort of press but no-one would carry any news stories that mentioned them.

In the end, we got the message out by door-knocking EVERYONE on the Maori rolls in New Zealand. It was a massive undertaking of over 6 months work with thousands of volunteers, all mapped and co-ordinated through computers (the GIS and computing function was my expertise and I was given the title of "Party Data Administrator"). We also reported back updates to the electoral rolls as many on the Maori roll are fairly mobile and addresses were changing all the time.

Anyway, in my experience, you can't assume that TV and Radio News are telling you the full truth. You sometimes have to explore deeper for yourself.

... and I support Anonymous in what they have done so far. The danger is that they will use their "hacker ways" for dangerous & unethical means at some time in the future. They are a bit of a wild-card in that regard.

I want to say, OF COURSE YOUR COUNTRY IS AFFECTED BY THEIR ACTIONS!!!

I would be willing to bet there are even some Anonymous operators in New Zealand

the mainstream news in New Zealand might've been trying to contain the Anonymous story to the US is my guess.

Welcome to ATS! sorry some folks have not given you the best welcome to ATS. Well anonymous are a hacking collective as they like to put it, they attack websites all around the world, but focus largely on the US side of things, Anonymous are part responsible for the "Occupy movement/protests" which have seen in many places around the world, in the US the "Occupy protests" lasted for more than 3 months 24/7.

many believe that the "Anonymous" hacking group is a US/Israeli gov secret agency "pys-op" , but i'm led to believe otherwise as i think it's an East Asian or Russian hacking group (capable of much more than just website hacking/email hacking), but is an effort to socially infiltrate, influence and manipulate the US to ruin.

but this is my view, so maybe best to research a little and see what you think.

You must be rich, surely, only a rich person could make such a statement.

And to the OP. I have been lurking on these pages for years now and I actually do not know that much about 'anon'. I never knew they were the ones who took down the playstation network. And what's all this about some world changing information On new years?

Welcome home buddy, what took you so long to get here?

I have little to add about this topic, but one thing that I have learned is. Sometimes the best way to find the truth is to look at what you are being told, and then ask yourself what you are not being told. Often the truth is found in the question of why are you not being told about certain aspects of the situation. Most lies are painfully obvious to see if you look at the situation in this manner.

I believe that there are elements of "TPTB" that are trying to bring right back into our global community. This is a tough challenge, as almost everyone in the world appreciates the advances that have been made in technology, but in most cases certain sacrifices have to be made in the efforts to step forward. The problem is that, also in most cases the repercussions aren't fully known until it is too late.

The problem I see here with groups like these such as anonymous is that they are opening the peoples eyes to the possibilities of destruction that can be caused by these same groups. You can bet that there are a lot of groups out there right now that are recruiting people with these talents, and their plans are not to make the world a better place. In the near future, we will probably be finding that there is a new platform that wars may be fought on and it is in the digital world.

Just my two cents...
