Yes I agree with you there. I'm having trouble sorting fact from fiction due to all the ''imposters''. Like these guys. They don't claim to be Anonymous but i think they're just supporters.

www.facebook.com...

Can still make it difficult though in finding where they organize their ''doings''. I don't want t join in on anything but I am interested in following them. It's a very controversial topic I've found. Someone in this thread has already said this on here but I'm not too sure who said it and I can't find the post but it goes along the lines of this

When something is good - ''Yeah that was us. Anonymous''

When something is bad - ''No that wasn't us. It must have been imposters''

Hard to decide who the real anonymous is. They don't have a leader but they have A LOT of youtube accounts.
Difficult to find which video's of their ''operations'' are real or just followers or techies trying to stir up some news.

Like another person has said on this thread I believe ''They must have some sort of leadership even if it's not formal'' I mean how can people organize something with a group that doesn't exist. Maybe that's how they keep on the downlow?

Maybe if it's a CIA group maybe they are fixed on finding out what people dislike and want revenge on so they can ''change'' that.. Just a thought

Thanks to everyone who has given me a real answer. I wouldn't expect ATS members to be so childish.

Well done for actually asking in the first place, kudos and welcome. I think the whole 'everybody is anonymous' is a front, one that protects the anonymity of high ranking members. They would get in big legal trouble if identified.

I personally think there is probably an organised structure of some sort at the heart of the group, with other members of the public perhaps latching on as satellites or free agents.

Enough

Responding to off topic posts is JUST as off topic.

The title of this thread is

"Anyone heard of the group ''Anonymous'' before?"

Not "lets bicker with each other"

and not

"use the search engine"

and not

"are you serious, have you been living under a rock"

So lets stick to the topic shall we? If you want to help this new member, then educate them and discuss things with them. If all you want to be is snide, don't post.

Anon is a strange group, they are random, chaotic and badly organized but they somehow manage to turn those qualities into there strengths.

They are the ultimate trolls of the Internet and they realized the best people the troll were governments and evil corporations.

oh and they rock!

Curiousrb you prove by yourself, just because you simply never heard, that Nev Zealand is wonderful place to live. Just one more question and I am going to pack my suitcase and go there. Did you hear about world financial crisis?

It's hard to believe you are unaware of them, so I would suggest your question was mis-interpreted. There is virtually no way 99.9% of the world community hasn't heard of them. Either you jest, or you dearly need a dose of current event news. But they are the watchdog of current affairs and a thorn in the side of corruption.

I have never seen them in my news source to be honest. Fair enough though. I can understand new sites don't want to broadcast their there doings as they could gain more support perhaps?

I went ahead and read through the replies..... well now that your up to speed with them, what's you opinion of their work. One thing you pointed out was that you are a Kiwi... Does your public in general follow political events and do you try to have any influence once something is brought to light? Your isolation is only just so good an insulation from world events, so every nation must have policy and act upon it and ally with a stronger nation. So in the course of that, news and information plays a key role......????

Well they seem to be sort of sketchy to me. But it is really hard to tell what they have and haven't done due to ''copycats''. I believe in some of their work such as the scientology and them taking down the servers which hosted child porn media. But some of their motives seem non full filling. As in it looks like they do some of their work just to annoy people. I mean they steal credit card details from the so called people they want to bring hope to.. How does that work? They want to bring down the big corporations but why the targeting of normal citizens? So my few on them is just behind mid ways. So I more dislike the group than like them. Not a lot of people in New Zealand follow much of the political stuff. There is a lot of people that do but the proportion of our population that do is little. Media wise - Many people are well in formed of normal news. Like car accidents, natural disasters, economy and so on. I don't try to influence people. I let them decide for themselves. I will give them the information in some cases and let them think what they want of it.

A lot of things they do is on our side but sometimes and you may agree to but sometimes they appear to target innocent people for no ethical reason.

Thank you for this thread. ♥

I've heard of *A* but honestly I've just not spent the time to 'look into' all the ins and outs of the group.
I appreciate one thread that gloms all the information into together!

Makes for a great read - besides the people who have nothing better to do than flame - like not knowing who *A* is is truly that important to the well-being of the world.

Thank again! S&F and Welcome to ATS!

peace

They do it for the Lulz.

Many people impersonate them. They wouldn't exactly upload the videos themselves if they wanted to keep Anonymous. Like the video where they said they were going to take down Facebook. I laughed at everyone who thought Anonymous could do it..

As far as I'm aware they haven't done anything to 'attack' the Government yet. They may have got some info and what not, but nothing to bring them down. Yet.
