Obama responds to failed debt deal, threatens veto

(CNN) - President Barack Obama on Monday said Republicans in Congress rejected what he called a balanced approach to deficit reduction that included tax increases on the wealthy.

"Despite the broad agreement that exists for such an approach, there are still to many Republicans in Congress that have refused to listen to the voices of reason and compromise that are coming from outside of Washington," Obama told reporters after a special bipartisan committee announced that it had failed to reach a compromise.

the need for more taxes I can only guess... they never use it for what it is meant for....

their is only one tax I could see as necessary

A tax of 50% on all lobbing efforts

it is the biggest growing industry to date and is a goldmine for taxing

ps... taxes are not revenue

It doesn't help that everyone keeps denying that the white house is bought and paid for.

Nobody is denying that.

The debate is how to fix it.

Any ideas?

Should we protest?

Let us not forget that Obama and the Democrats had complete control for two years and could not pass a budget. Also don't forget they control the Senate and the Senate is the reason the plans already passed in the House have died. The Senate won't even vote. The Democrats won't even vote for Obama's agenda. He does not need anyone else to pass it in the Senate and could not pass anything when the Democrats could do anything they want. That should tell you something.

Even Mathews, the sends a "thrill up my leg" guy went on a rant about Obama not doing or saying anything meaningful. It's getting really bad when he starts to loose his own people. The most divisive President in our history.

It's all games. They never intended for them to reach a deal in the first place. That would be leadership and we have no leaders.

It is it truly is... I think there is actually two groups vying for power

they are neither liberal or conservative... those are tools...

look over the history of ted Kennedy and several other high powered democrats.....

Compare to Reagan and the stunts he pulled with several other repub (like ike as well)

Like every power driven organization, whether it be governments or religion, the most effective way of controlling the masses is through fear.

It makes me sick that every election cycle is nothing but each party blaming the other and running campaign ads meant to instill fear in their constituents. Old people will lose medicare, children will lose their education, the middle class will have the bear the burden and so on.

And even when we vote and think we are eliminating part of the issue, whomever is left quickly assimilates the newbies into the fray. We are fighting a losing battle. The only way left is pure revolution. But even this is proving to be disastrous as evidenced by the corporate and political takeover of the OWS movement.

My friends and citizens, unless our government undergoes a drastic and immediate change in attitude and function, we are all doomed to continue our measly lives and we shall all perish. If you are one of the ones born into an elite family, then a curse be on you and your household.

You mean where they had a one vote advantage allowing the GOP to Fillibuster more in those sessions than any other period in American history?

Confused...how does President Obama losing support of the idealogical left...make him the most "divisive President in history"?? Psst...not pandering to the far left, makes him a moderate. He is only viewed as a "Socialist" in the context of the fevered idealogues on the far right...the far left is asking WTF.
