Still attacking this plan without offering no alternative plans but more of the same is unacceptable.

Add something constructive to the topic instead of seeking to derail it.

Alternative plan is to stop wasting money.
Or, use the State funds on pet projects.

What do you not get? California is broke and the only way to finance this is through the Federal Govt as tha alone prevents the States from privatizing any portion of this.

Cali needs to go after the tax cheats to get the money.

This is not pork, a pet project but a national investment project that will get us back on track. Until Cali can solve it's revenue problem there will not be any money to finance anything else.

In FY 2010, Amtrak earned approximately $2.51 billion in revenue and incurred approximately $3.74 billion in expense. No country in the world operates a passenger rail system without some form of public support for capital costs and/or operating expenses. In 2009, the most recent year for which data for other railroads is available, Amtrak's farebox recovery (percentage of operating costs covered by revenues generated by passenger fares) was the highest reported for any U.S. passenger railroad.

Amtrak

The Killifornia system would be worse.

If ya live there, you are already broke.

This will be worse.

Unless you can show how the DOT is a profitable business model, this is the stupidest argument I have ever read and many of you are making it. You are pretending that traveling around now costs taxpayers nothing and doing something cheaper in the long run is a bad idea because of upfront costs all while pretending to ignore the current ongoing costs. Who do you all think builds and maintains all them roads and bridges?

Quote of the Century.
Thanks for that.,

So, other 49 States, better bend over and get ready...Cali wants HSR and we are all going to pay for it.

Neo69 was correct.

What is this intense hatred is not allowing an American to have a job? The people will finance it one way or another need it be via state or Federal taxes and money.

Everyone knows that the ultra-socialist policies of the left (particularly in CA) are very close to (if not already) communism. When the state provides everything you need, dictates how you live your life, determines how morality is defined, mandates what you buy, controls your education, etc.....I don't know what you call it.......but I call that communism. Cali is a shining example!

There are lots of people who believe that most of California is already a communist — or at the very least a socialist state. But, as yet, it isn't "official." However, Los Angeles and San Francisco already propose and vote for virtually every leftist concept currently known to humans, as they vigorously work toward developing new ones; or adding onto existing radical Marxist notions.

Both cities have firmly announced that they have no intention of following current federal immigration laws and are considered "safe haven cities" for illegal aliens. Even banners and billboards have proudly proclaimed the state's new name: "Mexifornia." It's difficult, if not impossible, to think of any state that more completely embraces communist principles than does California. By comparison, even New York seems conservative!

You are being purposely ignorant and you know it. California is communist? How about you take a drive from the valley up through the hills with me and point out all the examples of communism amidst all the private wealth and corporate interests.

Calling California Communist shows a complete lack of understanding of either Communism or California.

I ask you again: what state do you live in?

I'm betting it is one of the moocher states that receive more federal funding than what they pay in in taxes.

If your state and the other moocher states are willing to forgo federal subsidies, I'm sure my tax rates would go down significantly. I would then happily increase my state tax rate to allow us to pay directly, instead of indirectly for what we need.

You still don't comprehend the slightest thing about how federal funding works.

The OP of this thread lives in a state that gets federal welfare funded by states such as mine and California. That really kind of sums up the reality vs. mentality on display here.

My state means nothing.
The only reason to bring this up is to provide you more fodder.
Ain't gonna happen.

Fed money is Fed money.
Your train of thought runs with the same idea that the Janitor in the office of Ford is somehow entitled to the money that the Company makes.

No.

State money is just that. Cali can piss it all away, burn it, give to the ocean. I don't care.

Failures of a state are not the responsibility of the Nation.
Sounds like the State needs to find a better way to do things.

Then why does California matter?

Fed money is Fed money.

Which is why it would be nice to know how much fed money your state gets and what for in order to put your opinion in better perspective.

Your train of thought seems to be that whatever you steal from your job as janitor is only your business but what anyone else is doing at all at their janitor job is your business.

Answer me this? Does Kenya have a infrastructure project like this and how on Earth is this an Kenyian economic model?

Either offer a solution to this mess or don't reply as you are just wasting time!

(Note, not attacking anyone but am trying to enlighten!)
