Good to know.

You know, I'm seriously astonished at the amount of anti-OWS stuff on ATS. You would have thought that this is what most people here always wanted, with all the hate and opposition of the government everywhere (and rightly so). But then once some people actually try to do something about it, you get several threads a day trying their absolute best to make them stop or paint them in a bad light. I can't quite make sense out of it.

I quoted this in it's entirety...

How is protesting Wall Street accomplishing any of that? Seriously...
Do you think that the hundreds of Billions being traded electronically will be effected? Do these squatters expect the Governments to respond when all there is where they're located are the sounds of Crickets instead of Millions of Citizens in an uproar? There doesn't need to be anybody here a ATS painting them in a bad light.

They do it to themselves when stories come out about local businesses laying people off because the protesters have ruined their business and all you hear from most of the OWS crowd is rhetoric about breaking a few eggs. Meanwhile back at the ranch, Wall Street keeps chugging along feeling no ill effect.

Then of course we have the Marxists in the crowd who could care less about the other 98% silent majority who are working, paying bills and raising a family because they erroneously believe and have the audacity to think they speak for 99%. All the while alienating those of us [Who on principle support the movement in general] but are called names like Neocons, Brainwashed sheeple or Corporate lackey's because we ask hard hitting questions and express our concerns about the movements lack of direction, content and a real agenda other than stand in the street espousing that they are really really really mad.

Actually, OWS wants Obama's healthcre plan.
sites.google.com...

Yes, that is correct. But they want more of it. They want Universal health care, not just subsidized insurance plans which tell people when to off themselves for the sake of their families( Olbermann style)

Apologies. I should have said they want the plan Obama wanted.

Oh, the link also goes on to describe how they want Al Gore environmental laws as well.

Makes you really wonder.
-er, well not us.
We figured it out!

And there's so much more wrong with many of the other demands. They want more educational reform. (Could it be because Values clarification and the John Dewey system doesn't work?) Maybe their own progressive agenda doesn't work, but they still view the problem as the interference of Republican values.
But mainly, I think they are concerned with getting their college education paid for by the State, and with the State providing the kind of education that is geared entirely to jobs. Yah let's just follow our dreams, whatever they are(didn't Nancy Pelosi say that?) but make sure they are job ready. Nothing like fitting a cog into a wheel.

Besides, the wealthy in Congress are not going to tax themselves more, or Buffet or Soros. They know already that it is the little guy who will pay. They will never pass tax legislation which will take what they have.

For someone to believe that this 1 man is pulling the strings on over 1600 occupations worldwide is absurd. Even if he has a pull in OWS, what about Oakland, Atlanta, Birmingham, Paris, Melbourne, Toronto, Phoenix, Baltimore, and the rest?

The occupations have become a platform for anyone with grievances, most of which connect back to the economy.

If you aren't doing nothing, then I'd assume that you're out in the streets because as citizens that's where we need to go to get change. That's where the occupations are.

He has the money, and activists galore in various organizations. ACORN, Tides, Ruckus, and many many more.

They want to replace one collectivist system with another. Yes, let’s go from the corruption that is corporatism to straight-up socialism ..... that will fix everything!! Let’s give even more power and control to the people who got us into trouble. Makes sense!!

Though I love the debate, it’s seriously discouraging that people with so much passion and intelligence (I’m talking about some of the OWS supporters on ATS) have such a hard time seeing through the smoke screen. The elites that OWS so vigorously oppose are the very people pulling their strings and directing their actions. They believe they are supporting the movement of our time, and that a great new America will be the result of their efforts. The reality is that the change they are facilitating is going EVEN FURTHER off the course our founders set….and many welcome that? They don’t understand what made our country the greatest country in the world and many don’t even believe it is!

Very sad times we live in. It’s more than unfortunate that half the people in this country (the people who brought us Obama and a liberal congress in 08’ and now support OWS) are going to drive us off the cliff, especially when we are so close to really fixing this problem! We are one year away from a 100% power shift in government and potentially a path to fix things….if only we can survive that long.

The only ones Trying to play OWS are the people who desperately create threads/comments everyday trying to discredit the movement and sow seeds of doubt amongst the brave people willing to stand up against the corruption and greed that screws over 99% of the worlds population.

Keep it
OWS

To understand if propoganda is effective, just look to see if they (OWS) are enthusiastic in the digging of their own graves.

The saddest thing with OWS is that they believe they are the 99% when in reality they are a very small percentage of the 99% - maybe .5%

That's a good one!!

Basically you’re saying that you support OWS, and because you support it you’re willing to turn a blind eye on the fact that OWS is backed by the people who caused the problem!! The real enemy is anyone trying to share the facts with you, right? That makes perfect sense! Carry on!! They’ll let you know when they don’t need you anymore!

The people who brought us all the problems (our elected officials and their lobbyists, cronies, backers, etc) are behind OWS now. Wall Street is a patsy!! It’s a conspiracy!! Wake Up!!

I just had a really strange encounter with an OWS supporter a few minutes ago.

He came in here talking about his many homes and many acres of land on some Caribbean island (he also owns his own island up here, a whole damn island) then mentioned how he was considering selling one of the Caribbean homes at a loss.

I made a joke about holding onto it for another 50 years for the market to come back.

He laughed and said something along the lines of "depends on whether or not the Occupy Wall Street movement succeed" then he pumped his fist and smiled and started in on a supportive rant from a position which appeared to assume I shared his perspective and was sure to mention to me several times that he was at ground zero day one for the movement.

Now what's a ridiculous millionaire like him supporting OWS for and why does he think the value of his property holdings is dependent on the outcome?

I respectfully disagree. I think the saddest thing is that there are many of the 99% who clearly don't seem to have the mental faculties to work out or even see they are being shafted by corrupt lying warmongers. And yet that doesn't exclude them from the 99% in anyway. Just because they can't see they are being shafted doesn't mean they aren't being shafted.

Liars come in all shapes and sizes.
Simply because he claims all of that doesn't make it true. If he was lying it just shows how delusional some are. If he wasn't lying then that to me demonstrates that some aren't as "Impoverished" as they would like some to believe and are in fact out there to protest at their leisure.

Some of us on the other hand have jobs and need to work to eat and have a roof over our heads.

Yah, but if they can somehow get the rest of the 99% to believe they are backing them, it's the biggest con job ever(next to the Kenyan British National in the WH running this scam)

It's true enough. I know the island he lives on here and have seen his home on it and seen him on his hovercraft in the winter coming to shore for supplies. He's also shown me pictures of him hanging from lighthouses doing whatever repair/restoration work he does when he's down near the equator.

I dont have any reason to believe he's lying.

He's in his 60's and claims service in either Vietnam or Korea.

I just cant figure out if he really supports these people because it serves him or because he just digs a good ol' protest as so many of these 60's generationals do.

You can disagree all you want but..

The fact remains that this small group of protesters who haven't been able to get any one location above a few thousand protesters doesn't speak for the silent majority. This needs to be realized. They don't speak for me.

No!

Actually the 99% are the silent majority who either don't care or are too busy working, paying bills while living their lives raising children and enjoying many of the freedoms which others claim doesn't exist in this supposed "Police State" Called the US. Get real, if this was truly a police state those protesters would have all been hauled off and or shot on the spot for threatening the State just like what happened under REAL Communism!

I'll decide who and what I protest when I feel it is appropriate not when I'm told. I don't like it when the Government does it and I sure as hell wont when some nameless, faceless clown online decides whats good for me or mine.

Yes it's spreading alright! Actually, more like smearing. It's on the seat, the bottom of their shoes and all over the floor. It's called BS!

You think people trying to gain support for a protest against corruption and greed that effects 99% of the population is the biggest con ever.

Well that speaks volumes about where your concerns lie.

I guess having a different opinion is also stewpid.
