I see we're bumping this bastion of ignorance again.

Your little break from Chicken Littling the moon didn't do you any good?

How can you even see it with all those chemtrails over the casinos?

Oh dear...

Moral of story is, threads in the Skunk Works are authored by people who simply are too deep into their fringe they simply have to stand firm to (support) their beliefs to save face of some sort, no matter what or all reason. Its a badge they wear.

Well I said it 1 year ago and I was right. The moon still is setting upside down 1 year later and has almost the entire year here in Vegas.

And you still haven't taken a series of photos to confirm to yourself how it changes as it moves?

please watch this, see if it helps.

As it has always done.

No I believe you said you were going to prove with photos, not a 2 sentence post saying I told you so.

I will start with these,,

1. You are so brain washed and dependent on artificial intelligence, anything that doesn't match the data on your screen is suspect. 2. Tens of thousands of us took acid at the exact same time and started posting photos of changes in the Moon. This has been going on for over a year now, anyone who doesn't see it is either not paying attention or in denial.

all i have to say, is for those trying to debunk this man's moon theory, you are all way too skeptical about this...i saw the moon like that in vermont when it was still light out about 4pm last night....sorry, thats just how it is, it didnt reach that point at night, it was already like that. have a good day dummies

Im in Philadelphia, And the moon was "boat shaped". Sorry, Hit enter too fast.. The moon was in a boat shape here as well! I wish I would have taken a picture

The above quotes are from the first 2-3 pages of this thread. There are plenty more. So I invite those who have seen it also to come on down. I don't need a graph to know what the moon looked like when it was setting 20 years ago.

No, of course not. Because you're infallible, right?

No possible, conceivable way your memory could be faulty. No sir. You are perfection in mind and body. Huzzah to The Chosen One!!!

Yes mine and thousands of others. Did you ever think maybe your not right? Maybe you have it wrong. I will say it. I was in my early 30's 20 years ago. How old were you?

Well, yeah -- because it is one year later, and the tilt of the Earth relative to Moon is same way again as it was one year ago.

I kept track of the Moon during the summer (I did it specifically with this thread in mind) and I noticed the waxing crescent did not look as heavily tilted in the summer as it does now (or as it did last November/December).

So, as the Moon has always done since humans have been keeping records of the Moon, the waxing crescent Moon looks more heavily tilted during the winter months as it does during the summer months -- at least in the mid-latitudes of the Northern hemisphere.

Do you know how many moths of this year the moon was like this? How many days of the moth on average its like this? It's the norm now , not the exception.

I never once said I remembered it being one way or another. All I said was that maybe your memory is off.

But that's impossible. You were a shoreline fisherman, so that's the end of that.

I don't know what you mean by "like this", because the waxing crescent Moon does not suddenly tilt. From my point of view (from 41.5° N Latitude), the crescent Moon runs the full gamut of appearing "slightly tilted" to "a little tilted" to "a little more tilted" to "heavily tilted" through the whole year. It appeared less tilted last month that it does this month, and looked tilted even less in -- say, for example -- August.

Here is an image taken by an amateur astronomer in Ohio on August 21, 2012, which shows the setting waxing crescent Moon as it looks in August -- only slightly tilted from vertical:

Here is the waxing crescent as it looks in October -- a little more tilted (this was also taken in Ohio):

And now, here we are in December (again, just like last year when we had this discussion), and again the waxing crescent moon appears to be a lot more tilted as it heads towards the west than it was a few months ago. This changing cycle throughout the year is just as predicted, and just as it has always been.

If you are going to be condescending, why do you not at least bother to spell check your smart azz remarks, looks like you might be more of an azz than ridiculing the OP.

I will supply my own pics, not stock footage. As far as the comment about the trails? I have something to post on that, now that you bring the subject up... "Like This"? Like this meaning the moon is tilted constantly in what used to be seldom seen is now the norm.

But it's not constantly tilted. It varies over the course of a year, just like it varied this past year since the last time we discussed this (8 months past since you last posted on the subject here, and 10 months since the last time a heavily tilted Moon was discussed).

That is to say any given phase at a given point (say, for example, the first quarter Moon 1 hour from setting) will have an apparent tilt that will vary depending on the time of the year -- and always appear tilted the same amount around the same time of the year for over various years. That difference throughout the year is due to the difference in the tilt of the earth relative to the Moon's position

I mean, this isn't advanced astronomy -- it's pretty basic stuff that has been known by skywatchers for a long, long time. The old folklore ideas of a "Cheshire Moon" or a "Wet Moon" at night did not happen all the time throughout the year, but only during certain times of the year, hence the reasons for giving them special names.

EDIT TO ADD:
If you provide pics, please use pics that provide a horizontal or vertical reference, like the ones I provided.

Did you really not look at the moon the whole year and only now, that it confirms your expectation, decide to bring attention to it again?

This could have been solved by some simple documented observations over the year, a basic visual moon diary, even one photo a month.
And you would have taught yourself something about the world - or, though the chances are miniscule there was something untoward happening that regular amateur atronomers had failed to notice, taught the world something new if you were correct.
Seems like a missed opportunity to deny ignorance.

Although you said you would provide your own pictures, so maybe you have done this?

I suppose I should set a reminder in my outlook calendar to take a picture of the 1st quarter Moon near moonset this upcoming summer (although my moon pictures are always overexposed). I made a point of looking at it this past summer, and as expected (and as is the norm, and as has it been for the 30+ years I've been an avid skywatcher) it was far less tilted than it is now -- the terminator line was closer to vertical, but not all the way vertical. However, I guess I need to take pictures.

I'll spend the months until then getting my camera settings right so the quarter moon is not an overexposed blob.
